- In this film we resurrect a rare #bedford rl #airportable #frankintruck. We started putting this vehicle together 6 years ago, it was bought as a diesel project and the description was bang on, missing components and major repairs followed, then i moved out of cornwall and sadly no one in cornwall would take this #militaryvehicle on . 6 years later and a few beers last summer re ignited the project, stage one was make her work, this film. Stage 2 is finish her, a film to come in april. enjoy, i love #bedford.
She is a beauty !!!
Love these trucks, passed my HGV on an Bedford RL in 1971 when I joined the army, I can still remember the registration number 26 ER 11.
I often wonder what happened to that truck, hopefully she is in someones collection and did not end up as scrap as so many did.
Snap,same here in the RAF,mine was 20 AJ48
I've always loved the bullnose since I saw it for the first time, many people think it's ugly, I think it's beautiful
I DROVE RL'S in Germany fir 3 years the GS Version ,supporting 20 Armoured Brigade, carrying fuel in Jerry's 200 in rear ammo,a nd troops, they could go anywhere the Tankies went in all weathers.
In the UK my unit 8 Squadron RCT were issued with The Bridging versionfiþed with a Winch and booster bars and the spare tyre behind the cab and the floor pushed back 2plus feet to accomadate the spare ,
These wagons could carry The Medium Girder Bridge sections plus a large trailer overall about40plus feet long.Happy days as a RCT TROG,
Kevin Mills RCT RETIRED
Yep I do like the bedfords,we had mjs in my TA troop RE
I will look forward to your next update.
Great video!
I love all things Bedford!
I had 2 Bedford TK cattle trucks for many years. I always wanted a TM but that never happened!
It's good to see these old lorries still hard at it.
I am with you there John , I have had several bedfords ,all have been really reliable, my favorites we my j0 pick up,my tks fire engine v8 diesel and my Bella vega coach.. keep it bedford
Good luck with the work on the RL, it is still one of my dream vehicles, as this is what I got my truck and car licence in when I was with the New Zealand Army reserves (49 tears ago), would love to have one today, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia 👍👍👍👍
Hi Les , glad you liked it , I love bedfords and there will be an mj film coming soon .n
I got my class two truck license in one of these.
Thanks guys, you are a credit to yourselves for putting her right. All the usual Bedford issues there, hub seals, brakes etc. I ran an MK Turbo on Plant work with a Hiab Crane and an RL Petrol flatbed with the Vacuum Servo system in the early 90’s until I converted it to Diesel. The MK saw the contract out and was sold but the RL’s Cab rotted out so I repaired it then it went to a collector with all the original parts for him to put back. I’m just reminiscing now but I would do another if I had the space and parts!. All the best.
i remember RLs when they were new we had two when we at camp in 1968, inside the cab there was this newness smell about them, just great and a running in label on the right hand screen.
Love gm lorries and the rl is a favorite. Thank for commenting.n
I love RL's, I had a tidy, Early 1953 MK1 RL that was used in the Suez crisis! It was petrol so i was lucky to get 10 MPG out of it but i loved driving it, I also had a 1954 Green goddess with 4700 miles on it! Lack of storage forced me to sell them 😭 I found that getting parts for them was difficult as it seems a few 'individuals' bought all the MOD RL parts stock at auction and you have to now pay through the nose for them.
We had one of these Bedford's truck in the territorial army royal core of transport and it was mint condition it went I was told to liverpool museum and it was petrol also a royal enfield motor bike went to
Great video and a good idea with the Bronze Green paint.
Glad you liked it ,will post another when we adapt the flat bed.cheers Steve.
Great truck, great vid, subscribed for more 👌
Glad you like it ,off to put a flat bed on at the end of the month.n
Badford diesel is one of the best diesels to go with..... in the long run.
Running slow on RPM delivering few hors but will live and last for a long time.
That brings back some memories. They were petrol engines then.
I have a half share in a RL, it was truly immaculate when we bought it with just a couple of thousand miles on it, seems it had been in Ashchurch storage depot for most of its time, unfortunately life and storage issues have been a major problem for us, to be honest i don't know where it is anymore
If it is like a j2 Bedford my tow truck Parts for Brakes and servo are BIG Dollars wheel bearings the same big bucks but the motor gear box are cheap to do up PETROL type 7 miles = 4.5 liters of fuel tank holds 25 gallons
Winch on tow truck will pull anything and crane lift is 3 ton
your RL BEDFORD will go any place BEDFORDS RULE THE OFF ROAD
We fixed the brakes no problem and have already converted the old girl to a 500 diesel, bedfords in the mud are loads of fun ,glad you liked the film, I used to own a j type back in the day ,love the look of the cabs, mine was a j0 with the headlight eyebrows.
During my army service ,I drove one regular from my base in menden Germany to giesen near Frankfurt to collect American px stock .it used to sit at 65 mph on the autobahn no problem
My partner is a squaddie brat and they used an RL to pick the kids up from school when they were in Berlin ,the truck was called the agony waggon. N
@@OakMeadow23 I wouldn’t have thought they would have used trucks to transport children
Good day . I need some guidance and info to get my truck brakes functioning again. I struggle now nearly two years. Is there a way we can share info. I find your channel the only one with the contents of the brakes I am looking for. Salkie from namibia.
Hi ya Sakkie ,I'm sorry I have not checked out my channel for a bit, so I am late in responding, how can I help?
First one I drove.....was registered 03 EL 94 Petrol engine.......this was 1975......but it was a 64? how can this be? it had been in deep storage and I got it with delivery mileage, drove like new, handled like new.
1975 will be the released from service date and when she was registered civilian so she's Deffo a 64.
I had one on charge in the late 60s 27ER74 took it to Northern Ireland.
Tesla shit .....👍👍👍👍................. great vid thanks....
Chocolate cake works much better. 😊
