what’s great about holly is that instead of going and picking a fight with abby she goes directly to nia and makes sure she’s ok and understands that nothing either of them say is going to change abby and that’s a reflection on abby not them
I think the reason Nia didn't place was mainly because Abby didn't want to actually work with Nia on the solo but yell and scream at her and put her on the stage with something she barely rehearsed. Abby basically manipulated Nia and nor is it right or fair that she do that.
Nia doesn't have a nice turnout or extensions. She's at a disadvantage before she even gets on stage against kids like Kendall or Maddie who just got luckier genetically

Kendall has a much nicer turn out and overall aesthetic presentation. and when she puts her mind to it, which is rarely, she is actually quite naturally talented. Nia is naturally flat footed and doesn't have those long limbs. She also doesn't have as natural a sense of rhythm and space as some of the other kids and she lacks control. I mean Abby doesn't have to work with her to tell her to straighten her legs. She should know that. She also needs to do a lot of conditioning in her muscles for both aesthetic and athletic reasons, which she evidently wasn't doing as there was limited muscle tone- which judges like to look at. I commend her for giving it her best shot when it wasn't a natural thing for her.

There’s no sense in saying she wasn’t aesthetically pleasing to look at that’s just wrong. Let’s also go to Mackenzie she was the exact same as Nia with her technique and she got the opportunity to train hard and do multiple solos like the others which they put challenging pieces of choreography in their solos for them to learn to execute. If I recall the only time Nia was put something challenging in her solos was freedom in paradise and No matter what, if you go to nias interviews about the show she states that they wanted to make her look like a weak dancer. She could turn, she had her needle, she could loads of things that Abby decided not to showcase mainly due to her working with Aubrey ODay.
I read it in 10th grade with no idea what it was about going into it. Man those first few chapters are tough to get through but the story and triumph is so worth it!

nia actually stood up for herself saying “i just want to keep that separate” and abby probably thinks Nia IS going to be successful because abby won’t be able to say she was her manager and she helped her but abby did sort of help her get famous because of the show
The thing is I totally think Nia was mistreated and unappreciated by Abby however she has chances to prove herself and never runs with them(places 1,2,3) and when she doesnt get solos holly gets annoyed but telling your kid that Abby’s always wrong and that she’s just mean and doesn’t give her solos isn’t good she should say to nia ‘work really hard and let’s try really hard to place first.’

I’m so proud of how Nia handled this situation; she spoke up for herself but remained respectful. But the look on her face she got when Abby said “It’s not separate, it’s representing the Abby Lee Dance Company” broke my heart, she looked so defeated. I’m so glad she’s doing amazing things now. 💜
