As a gymnast ( why I chose this video) no matter what size you are that doesn't mean your performance is bad it just means you may have to work less or more
As a gymnast for 9 years, who just thankfully got the heck out of there, the coach is scarily accurate. “Winning is your number one priority. Nothing else matters” I swear I have heard more than one gymnastics coach tell me this. Gymnastics is an absolutely brutal sport, and no one understands that. To be a gymnast, you must be in incredible physical shape, mentally strong to endure the verbal abuse, and have the perseverance to get back up a hundred times. Gymnastics is much more than being able to jump really high or flip on a trampoline, it is mentally and emotionally draining. I was never fat shamed, though I do know gymnasts who were and my heart goes out to them, my problem was with constantly getting torn down. Every time I got a correction, I heard that I wasn’t good enough, and still to this day, I have huge problems with my self confidence. I was basically set up to fail and I felt incredibly inferior, a feeling which I still carry with me. I began having horrible stomach cramps at the age of 5 because I was terrified of my coches and didn’t want to go to practice. I have developed depression and anxiety and a horrible self image because of gymnastics. Which I guess is why I get so angry when someone says “gymnastics isn’t a sport” or “gymnastics is so easy” or “I mean it’s all presentation”(yes someone said that to me). Anyway, all other struggling gymnasts out there, keep your head up, you are so much stronger than you realize. And thank you so much Dhar for recognizing the hardships of this sport❤️

Ok, answer me this. You eat way too much, your overweight and have diabetes and vey unhealthy. What would you rather do? Make the effort to lose weight and become healthier? Or eat more junk and gain more weight to the point where you can’t even get out of bed?
Yeah, there is a difference between starving yourself and maintaining a healthy diet. Your body needs proper nutrition to help it function properly. No food in your system is just as unhealthy as lots of junk food in your system.
I have to strongly agree with that statement. Junk food is better than no food, but if u are a gymnast trying to lose weight, I recommend eating salads with grilled chicken and maybe even other fruits and veggies. I’m a retired gymnast and ex gymnastics coach. I coached beginners. In one of my classes, the “heaviest” girl was actually the best in the class, and other “smaller” kids in the class were not quite as advanced and they had been attending gymnastics longer. Size has nothing to do with your success in gymnastics. I myself was larger and that was never a problem for me!
I do think you should recognise that size can have some impact, not always but it is generally harder to control your body movements or jump higher if you weigh more. It doesn’t mean that you can’t be just as good, if not better just that you have to put some work in
“If the size mattered the Elephant would be the king of the jungle.” It doesn’t matter how or what the size it matters about the responsibility and dedication. Good job dhar love your vids and thanks for making this video it really shines light on this subject.
This video reminds me of two separate indents in my life: 1. When I was 8, I took gymnastics for fun (along with tap & jazz). It was co-taught by a husband and wife, however I ended up quitting. Because one my body started to hurt and two, I did not like her husband raising his voice at me because I couldn't "keep my hands straight" whenever I did cartwheels. 2. When I was 13, years old I stopped eating. Not because I wanted to lose weight but because I hated the cafeteria food that they served (I ate when I got home). It was nasty and one time in kindergarten I got food poisoning from it. One day after I skipped lunch I got really dizzy, my head was hurting, and I couldn't see (apparently my eyes were crossing). I got my sight back after I took a little nap in the nurse's office. They called my cousin to pick me up and we got some food.
I'm sorry you had to go through that. Her husband shouldn't have yelled at you for not being able to keep your hands straight because cartwheels take practice just like anything. I myself am trying to learn how to do splits for my online ballet classes since with ballet, you need to be flexible. But I also understand that it takes practice to be able to do the splits.
I went to a gym that was run by a husband and wife too, and I was constantly yelled at by the husband(everyone was afraid of him). When i was 5 I started to develop horrible stomach cramps everyday before practice because I was so scared of them. I remember once getting a new skill that the rest of my team had already gotten, and I raised my arms and cheered in excitement. The coach just looked at me and said “finally! now it’s time to work on the next skill. You are so behind the rest of your team moved on a long time ago”. I still struggle with self confidence because of comments like that. Anyway, it would be really funny if we went to the same gym lol
I may have had a mild case of strabismus (aka crossed-eyes), one way to get it is stress. At the time I was dealing with bulles, and a history paper that was due. So that maybe one cause. Another cause could be that I had a mini stroke, which can happen if you don't eat properly (not indirectly though). Even the principal at the time thought I was faking (the nurse needed up with my emergency contact info). She had me close my eyes then open them again, it didn't work.
3:43 Ok, it's actually been said by scientists that when you don't eat, your body will actually produce fat on it's own so the body can be fueled in some way, and when you're using your body in an active way, such as gymnastics, dance or basketball or any sport, it can put lots of pressure on your body and eating strengthens you in that activity and can help you immensely.
When I was 8 years old, I was told by my gymnastics coach that I was too big for gymnastics. It totally scarred me, and so when I was a young kid I refused to eat. I was treated at hospitals for anorexia and only just recovered from it. Fat shaming is not okay, it has an unimaginable impact on people, and as minor as the comment may seem, the impact is massive. Everyone is beautiful no matter the size.
I took developmental psychology my first year of college and i learned about a girl who was a professional ballerina and died at 22 from anorexia because of how she was pressured to be skinny for the sport. Behavior like the coach is demonstrating will continue to increase anorexia cases and other eating disorders. I’m so sorry that happened to you🥺
I was in gymnastics and myself my coach always told me just do the best you can winning is not everything just have fun with trust ur teammates and your instincts thanks for sharing this inspiring message
As an excel gold gymnast Emma has pointed toes and straight legs and went perfectly straight during every skill, but Dominique on the other hand went crooked. Also sticking a skill takes time so it's ok if you don't stick it on the first try.
I love this lesson Dhar. Physical and mental health is always more important than just winning. You should always think about what’s best for them not for winning.
I definitely agree with you. As a ballet dancer and working out, exercising, I really think you should continue eating because eating gives us strength for not only ballet, but for many sport activities just like gymnastics. Exercising gives us muscles, but exercise always requires strength. I was eating fast food and still keep eating it, I've been exercising and now I'm gaining kilograms, so I won't have to be skinny anymore!
I seriously hate how a COACH is body shaming one of her students. It's just terrible that some people actually do this. If I was her the coach would be on the ground. Just remember that no matter your weight or size, you are beautiful just the way you are
This is actually a story that has happened to me, when I was 9 I was shamed on my size, and my coach blamed that on my gymnastics, so I could only ever eat once a day, but once I moved groups, the doctors found out that I was mainly gaining muscle which is why I was really good at bars
When she said "oh is your doctor a gymnastic champion?" Like what literally her doctor is smarter and knows better for her body than her karen coach..💀💀
Size isn't everything in gymnastics. It's attitude and other factors. I am a former gymnast and even got more than three medals in gymnastics and in other sports too.
When i was younger, the same thing happened to me. i was still really underweight. and my 2 gymnastics teachers compared me to other girls. they didn’t understand i weighed more because i was really tall. i was already around 5’3 at 10 years old. and still weighed only a little more than the 4’11 15 year old girls. and the coaches would always tell me “you shouldn’t eat that apple” or “don’t eat that banana”. and eventually spiraled into a ED. this one definitely hits close to home. i have since quit gymnastics, and joined basketball. If ppl r making u feel like you’re not beautiful, ignore them. you’re beautiful💕

More like left Coach Toxic. All her teammates were also forced to starve like her. They were also cheering Emma on when her turn came, even though she was on the blue team.
16:31, I love how she just gets up after fainting and acts like nothing happened. I haven't fainted before, but my sister has, and after she woke up she was shaking and so weak and need lots of water and she needed to be carried around because she couldn't walk without falling. Meanwhile this girl gets up after fainting a few seconds ago and acts fine. Other than that, this video was so inspiring and definitely gave lots of people hope and self-love.
When I was in third grade in music class, we were playing a game outside and we were running around singing. I slipped on the grass. It was rainy and the teacher. The teacher asked me am I all right and I said yeah and she said OK and then she told the whole class be careful what you’re running you might fall And then I stood up on the concrete and I started feeling dizzy. I couldn’t see my eyes were all blurred up and I was I was breathing heavily. I thought I was gonna have a heart attack but i was exaggerating and remider i was in third grade so it was bad and I’m on the concrete and the grass is like at least a foot below me and I just fall forward And the music teacher turned me to be on my back to see if I was ok and my eyes rolled all the way back. It was three seconds right but for me like 10 hour and whenever you faint you have a story going on in your head, I had nightmare i think it was something coming to eat me so it was kind of weird but yeah I had a nightmare and it felt like 10 hours. It was only three or four seconds and whenever I got to nurse I had some Cheez-Its and I felt all better so I mean, I think it’s because I didn’t eat breakfast so yea.
I really love the message this video gives. There is more important things in life than winning and you should always take care of yourself and love yourself, no matter what anyone says! Thank you for this great video!
As a gymnast in my last gym the coach would constantly mention things about how I looked and she would make me do more work and work a lot harder, so thank god I got out of there. I was thinking about quitting gymnastics but I still didn’t give up, and now I’m one of the best in my team and I’m super proud I didn’t give up.
No matter what size of body you are, you are still as good as everyone else, if not better. Thank you Dhar Mann for this true and inspiritational video.
I felt sad watching this I am also failing on weight loss and I don't know how to loose it I am not a gymnast but I'm really insecure about my bodyweight... this helped me a bit thank you Dhar :)
May I suggest something and it’s to read Psalms 139:14-16 You don’t have to but if you do it might be encouraging 14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. 15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

Bro, the coach does even care she only just wants to win, but she does not care about Emma, and beside you should listen to Emma, because of her doctor says she lose more weight something that could really happen who agrees?👇🏻
As a gymnast you should never starve yourself just because you might be a little heavier than someone else doesn’t mean you’re bad at gymnastics you just might have to train more which will encourage you and get you to more levels faster if you work harder if anyone is a gymnast and reading this if your coach tells you to stop eating don’t do it it is not necessary and it’s very unhealthy never starve yourself no matter what it is.
Eating is so very important, no matter what your age, size or what you may involved in! Skipping meals can cause really unhealthy symptoms, such as low blood sugar, low iron, low vitamin levels etc , it's great to be active, but you must also take care of yourself, including your body! Thank you for sharing Dhar Mann!🤩
To feel honest I feel really heavy when people look at me but when I saw how the other gymnastics teacher was being so nice it made my day thanks dhar for posting

Your success depends on you and not someone else. Absolutely loved that you taught this in this episode
I have a cousin who was slightly overweight and a gymnast in her primary school years .And I can say with confidence that her weight did not make her any less amazing. It isn’t your weight it’s your skill that matters
@Joy Timmons So girls want to be small and guys want to be big... In my perspective I see weight as an advantage, and like the person above me said, fat isn't always unhealthy. Just look at how sumo wrestlers use it to their advantage. You can easily pound off anyone (including your skinny friends who make fun of your weight) just duel them to a sumo match.
a gymnast speaking, (why i chose this video) i was always never the skinniest i could be. i would eat the healthy foods that i loved. it sometimes takes longer for people to get rid of body fat (and that’s okay!) your body does not define how well you can do floor or vault, what matters is how hard you train to get there! your prefect no matter the size! ❤️
Yup! There is a different between being healthy and starving yourself. As living creatures, you need nutritious foods to help your body function property. Having no food in your system is just as unhealthy and consuming large amounts of junk food.

It's not a good idea to throw away their snacks like bananas, if they feel hungry, they should eat something to feel strong and get energy from them for strong legs and arms.

This video reminds me of two separate indents in my life:
Whoa, I felt that. I was that hungry once too, and I was thirteen. 😲
That has never ever happened to me when i dont eat, i mean idk ive never rlly got blurry vision and stuff from skipping lunch thats very weird thh
I’ve been a gymnast for 8 years and I’ve never been forced to starve myself. I can’t believe some coaches actually do this.

Ok, it's actually been said by scientists that when you don't eat, your body will actually produce fat on it's own so the body can be fueled in some way, and when you're using your body in an active way, such as gymnastics, dance or basketball or any sport, it can put lots of pressure on your body and eating strengthens you in that activity and can help you immensely.
That’s ironic as heck, isn’t it

When I was 8 years old, I was told by my gymnastics coach that I was too big for gymnastics. It totally scarred me, and so when I was a young kid I refused to eat. I was treated at hospitals for anorexia and only just recovered from it. Fat shaming is not okay, it has an unimaginable impact on people, and as minor as the comment may seem, the impact is massive. Everyone is beautiful no matter the size.

I took developmental psychology my first year of college and i learned about a girl who was a professional ballerina and died at 22 from anorexia because of how she was pressured to be skinny for the sport.
