Its about feeling trapped and hopeless and trying to make it look like you are ok
i always thought it was about drug addiction, hes trapped in a jail that feels great
To me its kinda about how life on thw surface can seem sweet or good but deep down we still feel trapped
I think the candy jail is similar to the gilded cage: To appear to live in luxury or comfort, but without freedom. That lets a lot of people relate it to their own situations in life, whether its drug addition, a bad relationship, or economic dependence in a capitalist hellscape.
He chose drugs instead of God. Yet people think he was so cool etc
