I've had this theory that this scene was setup specifically for Steve Rogers. They knew how the movie was going to end so they wanted to leave an avenue for him to return in the future. It just made sense to me. We know Peggy is dead, so nothing stopping him from de-aging and going a few more rounds. Most people don't agree with me and think it's just funny scene with no motive, but a man can hope.
it's a nice theory but i doubt there's anything to take away from it. old man Steve already lived the life he was supposed to live, the one he wanted, the one he couldnt get to live because he was in the ice. after that, the love of his life gone, him being at peace is all that's left. he knows there are heroes out there to defend the earth and can live the rest of his years relaxing. i dont wanna spoil anything if you havent seen the tv show but the way the Loki series ended made it to where nexus events no longer need to be pruned and now that they have the ability for time travel, they can go into any point in time and recruit any dead avenger and it wouldnt mess with the "proper flow of time". sorry for the book i wrote lol
@@i_Blastoise I hear ya. It's just a theory. They've got other options with how to bring him back. What I like about it though is that it would be the same character we've watched as opposed to a variant. The only difference is he would have also lived the life he always wanted. A bit wiser and nothing to lose could be cool. Plus they probably have to bring back Tony and maybe Widow so maybe they'd want to do it differently for some of them and at different times. Anyway, no way to really know yet, but it's fun theorize.
Honestly, your idea makes sense. Maybe it was worked in there as a way to keep Chris's character "up their sleeve" so to speak, since even though he said he was done after this, he may change his mind later on. Whether he returns or not this could be a contingency so to speak.
It will cheapen Endgame's ending. But there are lots of out-of-universe reasons that young Captain America might come back such as Chris Evans not getting any roles that are equally distinguished or low critical receptions and box office revenues for new movies featuring new Avengers.

Best to time travel and bring back Ironman now that MCU sucks
Using time travel as a storytelling device is weak script- writing. Mistakes don’t matter and there are no consequences for anything if you can go back in time and correct it. This movie needs a new script and a reshoot.
Not the way they explain time travel in this film. Changing the past doesn’t alter this timeline, it only affects a different timeline. They weren’t able to change their past, they were only able to collect the stones and revive everyone who was dusted 5 years prior.
