Those purple figs are fantastic to grill, make preserves and eat fresh. I had a hedge of them in my previous garden and I really miss the abundance every year. It looks like you have eager helpers and are doing really well after a bumpy time, enjoy every moment. ❤️
To keep moisture and protect each plant from evaporation and save water, put gravel about 30cm in diameter around the plant. Bon courage and stay safe.
Hey guys, firstly, all the best to your father, I wish him a quick recovery and to be back on his feet as soon as possible ! I'm also very sorry for your cat. It's always so tough to loose a loved one ... Courage in these tough times. As a Security advisor for my local commune in Belgium, I'm always watchful when people use tents. Make sure that thing is SOLIDLY attached to the ground (pikes, concrete lest, anything really). It's really impressive how quickly these structures tend to fly away when you get too much wind. I'd advise the same for the pergola (though that would catch wind not that easily as the tent). Be safe out there ! Keep the videos coming, they're great to watch. Thanks for your work !

Pets are both joy and grief in life, in the end sum is usually positive. 'Flock guardian' is a wonderful rural dog; I have had those for 30+ years. Remember to tend her paws, nails tend to grow very long and need clipping pretty often. The rescue dog looks really happy. 🥰
What a streak of bad luck, it always happens when you least need it. I hope that you don't have too many setbacks, you have such a wonderful property to enjoy.❤️

I felt the a sense of deja vu, with your story.. our first weeks in Portugal were very similar for me, with serious illness and accidents and tragedies, i hope your dad is well on the road to recovery. It does get better. Just remember to take some time away from the property, for you. It becomes very depressing when all you do is renovating and working and as you get less motivated you feel you are getting nowhere. so take time off and enjoy what Portugal has to offer it has some amazing places to visit and lovely people. The pressure for delivering content for RUclips just makes it twice as hard. Good Luck and a BIG hug. Three final thing beware of fig trees.. they cause serious burns to some people, i had to stop touching them. the other thing is those red irrigation outlets get blocked up with limescale if your water has a high calcium content.. you need to check them monthly. Finally have a fire evacuation plan. and remember on those small roads, 10 fire trucks will be coming in the opposite direction to you as you try and escape.

It is so important to not lose yourself in the project and to remember that you have a life outside of your land 🥲 We are doing a little self care and will be even more motivated than before 😬
You give a pussycat a home and they let you live with them as long as you feed them and give them a lap. From one cat person to another, I am so sorry for your loss. I hope that in time the gap is filled with two more👍
I hope Lilian’s father is getting better and makes a complete recovery. Glad to see you have a new pet, she is lovely. You had a lot of figs. Did you sun dried any of them? Me and my daughter alway dry some figs in the Summer and make Queijo de figo with them. My grandfather was from Carvoeiro and he always made queijo de figo every year (a very different kind of the ones we make).

Just look up Ines Martins figos secos and Inês Martins queijo de figo. Not sure if those have captions in English, but if not she will be putting them on soon. I’m sure any of your neighbors also will know how to dry figs and cook fig cheese :)
And the neighbours do it best in our case :D maybe because they do it for decades and know the tips and tricks 😄🇵🇹

in old times grapes were crushed by bare feet. unwashed feet make better wine... 😜 first days aclimatization is always hard, after a few days it'll be ok. stay cool, stay simple, stay strong 🤠😎
