I spent the whole time watching this going "oh..." "oooh..." and "oh!". Learned a lot, thanks for sharing. I'll wishlist Dwerve.
Thanks
This is called the "Bob Ross effect" xD
What a great tutorial! I really love your 101 videos. These helps me so much! =)
Thank you! You upgraded my artstyle a lot :o
best part of the video the subscribe girl at 19:26
i found your channel yesterday and i already love it so much!
I just found you yesterday (Thanks RUclips) and I'm already in love with your tutorials! Keep it up!
thanks for the kind words
Same. And he also inspired me to draw my own avatar
@@robintrongdio9704 it's amazing
Great video Pete! If you ever get the time, I think a tutorial for basic textures like wood, concrete, dirt, etc would be a great topic to cover! Plus I really don't know how to do them :.(
Yeah thats pretty advanced but ill do it someday
@@PeterMilko Awesome!
I know this comment is 2 years old, but for anyone here, now: I have found the best way to learn how to draw anything you struggle with is to copy and imitate other artists. Don't just steal their art and use it as your own, but there is a reason art students do "Master Copies" where they copy a famous work of art. Tracing, recreating, etc. are great for discovering new techniques. I recently learned about offsetting tile paths by half x and y from copying A Link to The Past artwork (offset your pathways, it's amazing).
So the games on the canvases @19:11 are Spelunky, Monument Valley, Downwell and Super Meat Boy! Ill have new ones next week. See if you can identify them!

All amazing games! Downwell is my personal favourite :)
BROOOOOO YOU RESFRESH MY INSPIRATION EVERY SECOND
AHHHHH THANK YOU SO MUCH , IMMEDIATELY CLICKED
6:24 Dude, your tutorials are awesome, but you keep calling this "vibrance", but that's value, vibrancy is mid-tone saturation ;)
How long have you been doing pixel art? Your technique is superb man, it’s so satisfying to watch a piece you create come together
About 3 years now but i was an artist before i started pixel art so a lot of skills is transferable.
Thank you really, couldn't make art at all even though I tried a lot, because I am really bad at drawing as I have a sense for aesthetic but really can't do precise gestures that are needed for drawing or painting (even took an art class for a year and still didn't really improve).
Pixel art made it possible for me to make art thanks to you, really loving your tutorials, I don't think I'll make games, but I hope someday I can make some beautiful pixel art scenes.
If you have any key for the software I will love it, I would really prefer using it over my options right now as it seem very much awesome.
I just started getting into pixel art and doing it for the first time with no artistic ability whatsoever and your videos are extremely helpful. Thank you so much for putting this all together and I'm looking forward to seeing more from you soon!
Awesome tutorials! I´m waiting for so long on dwerve. Can u make a tutorial about monsters and characters? i´ve never seen before a better tutorialsseries about Pixelart!!!! Love that!
I will definitely make monsters!!!
Watching it again for the 10th time. Suggestion: pixel art 101 - dirt tile
Thank you Master Pete for teaching me water element, Now I only need to master fire to take on the game lord. ( jokes a side , I really appreciated this video, felt I learned so much from you)
I know I’m 3 years late to the party but I’m making a solo game and i am finding your guides very useful!
Glad to hear! Keep at it and send me a demo some day :)
What if the water is umm.. Green
I think it made it a bit natural
Who else was waiting for this tutorial 🙋
hi just wanted to tell you that your tutorials are really helpful, and thanks to you, my pixel art VR game is in development which I plan to release this summer!
came to learn and found a game to look forward to. great marketing strategy.
Very satisfying video 💧💦
super-useful video! how'd you make the blue square? 1:51
its the rectangle tool by pressing U
Tons of respect for you taking the plunge and dedicating yourself to what you love! Really enjoying this content!
19:35 : "It's pretty much done."
The other half of the video: "Am I a joke to you?!"
I use librasprite... It's besically aseprite, but only for Linux and free...
i find your videos captivating and fun, from a *sea* of other tutorials, but the gradient to the water looked a bit too gray by the end of the drawing. maybe that's just my untrained eye
Thank you for taking the time to do these tutorials. 👍👍😃
Can you teach us how to do lava?
Note: I know very little English, but we also see you Spanish speakers.
sure someday!
Love your videos man, SO CLOSE TO 10K! LET'S GO 💪🏻
Yeah 10k is going to feel pretty damn good.
bro i need a key for aseprite so bad lol i am trying to use krita but i cant get the damn hsv scale to work how plus a bunch of other frustrations to do with the fact its made for lots of different kinds graphic design and doesnt just focus on pixel art stuff
I can't help it but I keep hearing Terraria sounds! xD
You are too cool ! Thank you for these wonderful tutorials!
how do you save each 32x32 grid as a separate image though please?
The random terraria noises in the background really did it for me
great video! this really helped me, thanks.
Nice tutorial :-) thank you
Your videos make me want to make pixel art.
good! :)
what is your canvas size if you dont mind me asking
I came for the magikarp in the thumbnail
hey, could u show us water animation?
Looks a little moist there
Why do I see you everywhere?
dude, your videos all kick ass! got my sub
I learned so f* much. Thank you!
As always amazing tutorial, can't wait the next one :) Love your work man
I will try to do them weekly :)
Are there any keys left? Aseprite keys?
Interesting! this is very useful
You are a very good teacher :o wooow so cool ah gosh i love it
This was all very nice stuff, but were is the animation? like walk cycle, jumping, attacks, etc???...
I'll make more videos, subscribe 😁
Thanks a lot for quick tip in 0:52 I searched for this tiny option for couple of days already. Feeling like a dummy
Glad I could help!
I love your videos so much man, could you possibly share some insight on how to animate the water? Is it typically done frame by frame in the pixel art, or do you affect that in unity?
General common sense: Make literally everything symmetrical.
Artistic common sense: Stop making everything symmetrical.
I have just discovered your Channel and i love it
Thanks please stick around, i upload often :)
Subscribed a couple of days ago and i must say that this is becoming one of my favorite channels! Im learning game boy assembly programming and I would like to create my own little arti for that, just for more fun. I was wondering if you have more aesprite keys available. Never did art in my life and I'd like to start with some pixel drawings and put them in my gameboy experiments.
The pacing was a little slow in the beginning of this video, but once it got rolling it was very informative, and I liked the way you explained things in detail. Thanks for sharing, Pete.
Yo! So helpful! ✌️ Thanks Pete. Do you have any tips for transferring your tips to isometric tiles?
Hey, thanks , this was very cool, i always spend more time than usual on water. Keep it up!
I love Pixel Pete so much that whenever I watch his videos I turn off my AdBlocker
Love your work🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
wishlisted dwerve, might buy it but definitely wishlisting it to help you out since you helped me in my game.
Thanks!
Can you do the sides or angle slices. I struggle with perspective and can’t really envision how that would look.
Can you do a video on weapons? One of the sprites I made as a kid was a scythe no staff thing I remember making and I want to remake it but actually be good.
Been watching quite a few of your videos. Do you have any on animation and techniques. Like you mentioned the water animation.
Epic tutorial!! Your eye for detail is insane
Exactly. I've made little sprites (using MS Paint as that's all I have) for my own use before, but this guy's stuff is awesome.
in aseprite how do you get the preview to look good? mine blurs? even when I zoom in and out... :(
Looks simple and awesome thanks man do you have a video on making seamless cliffs, especially the middle row one
Thanks Pixel Pete, I'm considering making a chill exploring game and this is perfect for that! Gives me a huge leg up, thanks! All the best with Dwerve!
Nice tutorial!
you should do a video teaching us how to make repeating tiles!
This is awesome! It'd be really cool if you could do a video for how to animate water or something. Nobody seems to have a video on how.
sweet look great
he is rlly good
Wow this was really amazing i learnt a lot thank you so much. If possible can you also make one explaining how you tackle a cave environment like a dark rocky feel this is something i also have a hard time wrapping my head around.
To make the pattern (platform) at the end just select the drawing then go to Edit >New Brush
now you turned it into a brush, you can pain with it to make a wide platform.
Great video
My boy here lookin like a mash up of Criss Angel and Peter Steele
Love the tutorials, dude. They've been helping me out a ton.
Do you have any idea when you are gonna release the game to be playable?
There will be a demo with the kickstarter, if you want to play it sooner join the discord.
The thumbs downs. I’m confused. 😆
Subscribed! Thank you for the great tutorial, this is perfect for the beginners like me!
Did you do one on making paths and mountains I don’t see anything for terraforming
ok
@@PeterMilko so will you do a video on paths
Awsome
Hi! Just watched all your pixel art 101 tutorials, they're very useful and well done. Now I'm going for the GB studio ones!
Can I ask you if you're still giving away Aseprite keys? I'm trying to use free alternatives, like GraphicsGale, but I'd really appreciate if I could use Aseprite, as watching your tutorials I'm getting used to it more than GraphicsGale. :P
Thank you for everything and good luck with Dwerve! :)
I will giveaway more keys in the future, if you want one follow and DM me on twitter @petermilko Ill send it there.
Cool!
You remind me of my friend in VA. I'm back to the tutes, I been away for a few weeks.
I am in no way a visual artist but your videos are so good, as in you are so talented and such a competent instructor, that I can't stop watching them! Keep up the great work
digital light particle peter is teaching how to graphically display h2o on a computer device in a digital light particle by digital light particle-style.
all memes aside, i love your videos. keep up the good work.
anyone know if he uses a mouse or a draw pad?
He use a mouse you dont need a draw pad for pixel art
Great video!!! Thanks for sharing this!!!
Hey man, I am watching all your videos and enjoying a lot. I am into pixel art and sprite creation. I recently finished taking a Udemy course in pixel art and thought it was very superficial. Did not have enough explanation on colors(just black and white) and pretty much only used Piskel. You seem to have much better didactics, perhaps you should make an Udemy course or post a video here in youtube and go through the things such as: Color understanding and gradient, choosing the right amount of pixels per sprite you want to create etc.
Keep the good work!!
I'll probably do a Udemy course sometime this year.
Game dev for a living? I'm going to do that one day too.
Yeah man, it's kinda scary but very rewarding
hi pete, nice tutorial, really loved it ^^
Hey there
@@ryandsouza8495 ???
Which software do you use?
This one www.humblebundle.com/store/aseprite?partner=pixelpete
I though there would be more water then transition. I guess that's I need then
Excellent video thank I learned a lot :)
Hi there! im new here, just subbed the other day. Your stuff is pure gold ! i would like to ask if you also do characters, if so, i would love to see some characters and simple animation stuff, like idle, walk, attack. Anyway, Keep it up mate!
yeah i will definitely do that some day
lizer
Ah yes, this was indeed worth subscribing too :D !
Awesome vid very informative. Can you do a video on water movement? The movement in your Dwerve clips looks superb.
Yeah i will some day
thanks your are a goat
Thats very nice of you to say. thank you
