worst Euro this year..... there is a lack of talent nowadays...
football has changed. to little focus on playing and too much on diving and trying to influence the referees. back then, it was tough players and gentlemen
lack of talent? gareth bale has led wales to the quarter finals. cristiano ronaldo and portugal just got to the quarter finals. spain and germany have powerhouse squads. this euro has been awesome and the underdogs surprising everyone are just making it better.

I just realised Zidane has scored in 3 biggest cup finals: World Cup, Euro & Champions League. What a freaking legend he is, I miss his playing days badly. Zidane was a so goddamn good footballer.
No he scored in 2 WorldCup finals (1998 & 2006) but not the Euro's final, that was Wiltord & Trezeguet in 2000.

That hand ball from Abel Xavier still hunts me to this day deeply in my memory together with Zidane scoring that penalty and Portugal being eliminated ...I was a child then and 20 years years ago i had forgotten about it and just before the highlights i saw Abel Xavier blond hair coming through i knew there was something painful regarding him Zidane and Portugal but couldnt quite remember what until i saw the highlights it all comeback.

My God the nostalgia! I was 15 at the time, and still remember this tornament very well. I think many will agree Euro 2000 and France 98 are probably the best football tornament the past 30 years!

It's amazing the games between 🇵🇹🇨🇵, it always goes deep in extra time, are very equal and even confrontations. Always ends up dramatically.. It seems after 3 semis defeats, all in extra time, Euro84, Euro2000, WC 2006, the Portuguese turned it into their own hands after 2016 final. I predict 2 more revenges, and Euro 2020 group stage encounter may led to a semi final or final encounter again.. Remember, 2 more revenges will come to Portuguese side all in dramatic fashion as well..

Figo, Cristiano Ronaldo, Deco, Rui Costa, Simão Sabrosa, Nuno Gomes, Ricardo Carvalho, Paulo Ferreira, Pauleta etc etc. We played really really well, but the "others" never liked us, Portugueses.... I was at this game. I somehow won the lottery at the time and scored one ticket to the match. Best sporting experience I have ever had. Great game and Zidane was fantastic.

In my opinion 2000 Portugal team was slightly better than 2004-2006 or 2012-2016 teams. 2000 was a pinnacle of their "golden generation" - Figo, Rui Costa, Paulo Sousa, Fernando Couto, Vitor Baia, Joao Pinto, Nuno Gomes, Jorge Costa, Sergio Conseisao, Costinha...How this team with all these players didn't qualify for 1998 WC is beyond me. Temporary lack of form or what ?

Nah. It's almost the same now. Both teams when it comes to added time play very defensive footbal: 1. because they're tired 2. because the other team is tired 3. no one wants to lose a goal because they know they're going to penalties. With golden goal it was much more fascinating and a lot harder.
It was cruel indeed. but the right decision was made. crystal clear penalty. the "sore loser" reaction of the Portuguese players was atrocious to watch afterwards

The game was a lot faster back then without all the passing we see nowadays. Was a real privilege to grow up with this era of players which would not fall down for every little touch.
I was 12 and it was a very sad day for me. Thankfully we got our revenge and we are now Champions of Europe!
@Daniel Le I dont think we understimated them because we lost to them in the 1st game. It was a very difficult team to play against. Once they scored, it was almost over because they defended really well.

It was a surprise, no doubt but they had qualified really well and had probably their best group of players ever, all in form at the right time, with a good manager. For that month, Greece were the best team in Europe.

Apparemment dans les vidéos le publicateur ne montrent que les parties qui larrangent. Dans ce match figo a montré toute sa classe et son talent. Et zidane dépité lii marché sur la cheville volontairement alors que le jeu etais ailleurs. Il.meritait un rouge parce que le jeu etait carrément ailleurs mais cest simplement un jaune qu il a eu. A 10 le match aurait une autre physionomie.

Pirlo, Buffon, Kahn, ... there really were too many to count. I remember world cups being more spectacular with the Nigerian team trying to play Samba football in 1998 (and succeeding to some degree).
Exactly. Seriously nowadays theres a complete lack of talent. The best players are taken by the top teams, unlike in the 90s 00s when you have great players in every team.
Just look at the gap between top and bottom in the top leagues. The top teams are scoring 100+ goals, getting higher points easily each season. This just shows the extreme gap in quality between the teams that its not even funny.

Funny thing about this match is that Abel Xavier had an excellent chance to put Portugal 2-1 ahead with 5 minutes to go after that header from Figo's free-kick, which would have probably given Portugal the win and made him the hero of the match, as opposed to the villain.
Portugal would have won 2-1 if he scored cause that was when the golden goal rule was there so the game would have ended immediately
France won this extraordinary EURO, but Portugal, Italy and the Netherlands could also have won it. All these teams were at the same extraordinary level. It all came down to almost nothing, with endings worthy of the greatest suspense and drama films.
