Probably the most loved village in the world. Known as the Village That Would Not Die. Turned adversity into tiumph. Well done Michael for bringing Witton Park unique history to the silver screen.
Although I now live in Norwich, my family come from Witton Park. It so sad that, in the history of the start of the railway in Britain, the importance of the area is not recognised. There is still so much of that railway history to be found between Witton Park, Shildon and Darlington.
Couldn’t agree more, whilst making the documentary, me and John McLeod scoured the area between east park and phoenix row, there was very little to suggest there had been a railway although if you drive up towards east park from the village you can just make out a bump in the road, me and John believe it to be a bridge from the line now covered.
@@MichaelSmith-Films For rail buffs, there is still much to discover about railway history. The rise of the Durham coalfields, especially around Witton Park. How the need for the moving of commodities led to introduction and then the development of a railway system! The first rail station at Etherley, the site of the first rail bridge at West Auckland, the Brusselton incline, railway architecture at Shildon, Locomotion No 1, and then the extentsion of the Etherley to Darlington to Stockton Railway. What I do not understand is why the area has not "cashed-in" on this unique history!
