    A simple tip heat the shock bolt even if you only have a hand held propane torch. They don't come off that easy unless like he did take off the nuts and then repeat the video making it look easy. Heat em up.

    Excellent video, well done presentation. It was really helpful to me. It was a bit more tricky putting on my front shocks than the rear, but with help like this it was a breeze. thank you.

    SON, You have to use a penetrating lube to help you getting the nuts & bolts off. Why go through all that crap just spray it down a day or two before doing the job. Clean away all junk from around area if need be & hose it down a few times, then hammer on it a bit so the stuff gets in there real good. Put some anti seize on that stuff too, that's what it's for to help you in removing bolts, nuts in harsh places or in aluminum with steel a steel bolt. Hell even use some grease on the threads if you don't like anti seize, you have a hell of a lot better chance in not stripping the threads out also.

    Did my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo the other day. Did not need to remove tires. Plenty of room to work around tires, even turned front tires on a angle to clear shock area. The safest vehicle is a vehicle not jacked up. Cool video. Monroe Matic Plus shocks, beautiful ride quality.

    and the shocks can be installed rubber boots up or down, there's no difference. the rubber boots aren't even necessary. but I always keep the boots on and mount mine boots up, less chance of things tearing them.

    I was going to install my Bilstein 4600 rear shocks last weekend and the lower sleeve than the shock mount goes through is TOO WIDE so I had to wait for this weekend, need to remove about 1/8 .125. I had Autozone on there for about 10 years- they are much narrower

    • @A_Renaissance_Man
      @A_Renaissance_Man  7 лет назад

      Make sure the metal sleeve is lined up properly. it is a very tight fit. Watch the video at 8:45 and see that I had to drive the shock into position.

    • @cantweallgetalong
      @cantweallgetalong 5 лет назад +1

      @@A_Renaissance_Man Yeah, i'd say the lower shock mount sleeve is about 3-4 mm too wide. There just no excuse for a German product to have that large of a manufacturing defect. Yours pounded in with a hammer pretty easy but, there's just no excuse to have to use a punch, drift pin or sacrificial bolt to beat the shock into alignment!

    • @A_Renaissance_Man

      I never had any luck with drilling out a broken bolt. I have always ended up welding a nut on top of the bolt where the head was and unscrewing the broken bolt out.
      Not exactly a DIY job.

      Your rear shock bolts screw into the frame rail next to the gas tank
      You don't need a wrench on the nut and you couldn't get at it anyway unless you drop the gas tank. The bolts usually come out fairly easy. Good LUCK.

    I have a 2006 :( is there any front shocks I can get for cheap?

    • @A_Renaissance_Man
      @A_Renaissance_Man  4 года назад

      I think did a video on front shocks. They are much tougher as rhe brake lines need to be folded out of the way. They do not need to be drained. Also low price can be asking for trouble. I can only recommend the ones I used. I dont know about OEM as Jeep is now owned by Fiat.
