For those curious about her screaming, she still has the capability to make it sound exactly like it used to. It's a matter of her technique. She used to make her screams full voice with all her voice, making a better sound at the cost of wear and damage to her voice after a while. She had a vocal injury recently, so she's a lot more reluctant to use the full voice scream. Instead, now she does this technique where she relies on the microphone to mimic the sound somewhat without hurting herself anymore.

Yea her voice definitely did change, but it's still really beautiful and unique. She wrote in her book about having voice problems for a long time and about her fluctuating hormones affecting her range. I think the reason I love Lacey's singing actually has nothing to do with the technical part of it... it's the way she uses it to express complex emotions and it's not contrived at all, you can tell it comes straight from her heart. Like 23:46 & 11:21 I think are good examples of that

Flyleaf is like skillet. They should tour together. Anyway, amazing and jaw dropping performance and awe inspiring words to have been said, simply well done. I myself see as this female singer as a way of me to let go of any hate I possess in my heart and its a healing process. I'm grateful to even feel it within me. Again great band and all. And yes I know she isn't in flyleaf anymore.

Shelby Koenig I think you mean 2006-2007? Her vocal problems started in 2008-2009. She's been screaming in her new "way" since 2009-2010
Sarah Bailey Actually, her vocal problems started in 2007 because of how hard they were touring in 2006 and on. In March of 2008, her voice finally gave out mid-show, and that's when she had to start changing the way she used her voice. In all honesty, I think 2005 was the last year she had a really great singing and screaming voice during electric sets. (Here's an example: ruclips.net/video/jEJCZLLqpoA/видео.html)

Yes Laceys screams were a little off but they werent bad at all. She is still doing Flyleaf songs because they are her songs and she still has rights to sing them (she does a better job anyways clearly). She explained why she left and the main reason was because she was starting a family and being on tour and what not was making that hard to live a normal life raising her child. Flyleaf had a 10+ pus year run and she was content. Other members have left as well. Great job Lacey Ill be seeing you at Rock on the Range hopefully.

lowering overall keys during live sets is quite fine since you need to preserve extra voice energy for continues sets :)
In her book she said after having her children her voice changed and she lost some of her range

Yeah her screams on "I'm So Sick" def can tell her voice issues and I think something with her hormones was affecting her but I could be wrong about the hormone thing. Anyway, you can hear effects on her voice a little too might just be certain parts but Lacey will always be awesome and one of my fav female lead singers why she is different than most female singers past to present. Man I wish Flyleaf would of stayed together all the ORIGINAL MEMBERS man they were such a powerful band but I do like this setup! Dude on the drums making us drummers look good from Starbucks manager to drumming for Lacey Sturm that's dope! They should name this a cool band name. Lacey is awesome but they need a name. BTW new Flyleaf singer can sing just don't like her vocals especially them still doing "All Around Me" is Lacey's Testimony

Wow... her scream has changed a lot. It sounds quite unique now... I feel like I will grow accustomed to it over time, but for now, it's a bit jarring. It'll grow on me, though.

So, this was really awesome to see but it really bothers me how bad her screams are in this. I feel embarrassed for her. But other then that the energy is great and she's so beautiful and amazing!! I'll always be a Lacey fan!!
Kylie Siebert I honestly think the screams are amazing - not quite there yet but she's still rehabilitating her voice after tearing her vocal cords.
As quoted by Lacey when she was in Flyleaf "I think the most important thing about the screaming in our music is the urgency of it"... it's good stuff.

Kristen is phenomenal in her own way. There's no replacing Lacey, she's too unique and I wish she would return as well, but Kristen is talented.
It's like trying to say a band is Guns N Roses without Axl Rose or Metallica without Hetfield or Megadeth without Mustaine or Nirvana without Cobain.

I'm confused to why she's still performing Flyleaf songs when she left the band. Was there a real reason to why she left the band (drama maybe)? Because why not perform these songs with her old band mates??!
iamgem I don't believe she left the band because of "drama" (they're grown adults), but I do still feel like we never got the full and real story.
As to why she still performs Flyleaf songs: they are just as much as her songs as they are Jared's, Pat's, James', and Sameer's.
Why does Flyleaf still perform old Flyleaf songs? Because they are just as much as Jared's, Pat's, James', and Sameer's songs as they are Lacey's. (I personally find it insulting that Flyleaf would still perform songs like "I'm Sorry" and "So I Thought". Those songs are so personal to Lacey that to this day she still hasn't said what they're *truly* about. And yet the new singer would sing them like they're her own.)
I do wish Lacey would have stayed with Flyleaf, but at least she's still performing and recording music.
Exactly! I feel like there's a huge chunk of the story missing because even Ryan White is performing "so I thought" with the new singer but its like they acted as if Lacey never existed... AFTER THEIR SOUND ENGINEER PASSED AWAY AND LEFT 2 KIDS WITHOUT A FARTHER SHE REALIZED JUST HOW SHORT LIFE WAS ,AND WANTED TO ENSURE THAT SHE GOT TO SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH HER FAMILY. +Krissay Lyn , HI Krissay , my wife would say the same thing about most of the music I listen to, listen to the lyrics it is Christian music, but it is not pop christian music. My wife hates the sound. Its the type of sound I think of as music and its the lyrics that touch my soul

***** thanks, but I've listened to Heavy Metal my whole life. My dad took my mom to a Black Sabbath concert a couple months before I was born. I grew up in house with Judaist Priest, A/C D/C, Ozzy, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper etc.. (Guess I'm showing my age:) Anyways, I'm a huge metal head, but I branch out sometimes to things like Flyleaf. Just never modern day rap and NO country!
I figure the reason for the repetition is to get a point across I guess. It's just something I've noticed with religious music. I know a lot of "regular" bands do it to, but personally, I think it shows a lack of writing talent.
Secular groups are the same way. It's just the way the music world is. For every good artist, there are 50 cliched artists. Though, I would say Flyleaf (and now Lacey on her own) are far from being cliched.

I love Lacey Sturm's voice. But, if she's going to constantly force out screams while performing older Flyleaf songs, she's going to ruin her vocal chords.
+Rawk4Life It depends on the kind of scream you do. She used to do it in a really unhealthy way all the time and it burned out her voice on tours, but she got coached on some different techniques that make the sound without stressing the cords as much.
She has a video about it on RUclips.

+Daemiex prob bc with flyleaf she didn't have time for lot's of touring and that fact that she might have never been at home with her kids but now that she sing's as solo artist she can be home when ever she need's to and all that and work around tour dates.
+Band Freak actually, she admitted in an interview that the tour she did after she left flyleaf ironically made it easier for her to spend more time with her family. had she done one last tour with flyleaf, she would have realized it sooner.
