    I heard you mention the tractor being built on a Monday and it made me think of this. I have a 2003 Craftsman LT2000 that was built on a Monday, and the rear decal that says, "Craftsman" was slightly misplaced. Mine is a bit higher up and possibly a bit to the side as well. The ones on the grille were starting to peel when I got it, so I put it under some water and scrubbed the stuck dirt off the back with a tooth brush, and they stuck again. Anyways, whoever was on decals that day was not doing to well.

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60  3 года назад

      I've seen that on a handful of tractors. I'm almost certain this 782 was built on a Monday - not only is the IH decal off-center, but the serial number was stamped in the wrong spot on the tag. I've even seen a few of these tractors with a different decal on each side of the hood - one had a 582 decal on one side and a 782 decal on the other, and the owner swore it was all original.

And also you probably know this but surging is remnant of a lean condition..

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60  3 года назад

      This one doesn't have dual spool hydraulics, but my other 782 does. The surging on the Onan engine is more likely because of a leaking intake manifold, but I've gone through it and checked it over multiple times. I may try adjusting the carb as a last resort.

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60  2 года назад

      That's a possibility, but another possibility that nobody thinks about is how these engines pack full of debris over time and overheat as a result. I've heard that a lot of these engines threw rods as a result of packed cooling fins (overheating) in conjunction with the lack of oil.

    I don't know what it is about some garden tractor engines some of them surge like crazy and seem to have a mind of their own and some don't surge at all

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60  3 года назад +1

      The Onan engines are known for surging because of the split intake manifolds, but I don't know why this one continues to do it - I've split and resealed the manifold and the carb is new. I'm thinking it's the fuel.

    • @hunter7476

      What about the fuel pump we’ve had our1811s splitter surge and carry on after the fuel pump replaced ran good

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60  3 года назад

      @@hunter7476 Doubt it, I know for a fact the pump works properly and the vacuum line from the crankcase isn't plugged. The fuel pumps on the Kohler twins can be a nightmare. They're mounted on top of the engine, so if they flood or the diaphragm sticks, it fills the crankcase with gas. Great way to lose an engine.

    Would the Cub cadet have a problem with governor?

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60  2 года назад

      This particular model? Yes, the Kohler opposed twin engines had issues with the plastic governor gears stripping out, even on the newer Magnum series engines that were used for repowers in these tractors. I worked on another 782 with one of the Magnum engines (not the same tractor in this video) and it had a bad governor gear so the only way to keep the engine from over-revving was to use a second spring to hold the governor arm in place.
