400ex's look so much better with race plastics.
more vintage builds please lt 250r, trx250r , lt500r the works!
Great classic quad build!
Thank you. It was quite a project.
Thanks guys, keep uploading the classics.
Sport quads for life! #Yamaha
AGREED!
It would be awesome to see an LTR build. I think there was one a few years back but wasn't that great. I love these build videos you guys make. Keep them coming. Maybe even a flat track build? Thatd be something cool and different.
Your videos are still great! Especially now since 400ex's are so affordable...........Appreciate the content!
no rag when u put rist pin a cer clip in :( im sure u done it many times but still beats spliting a case if something drops in the engine
Good tip!
I use to own this quad after it was passed a couple hands. Ended up with a Duncan Racing 450kit. Duel oil coolers. Wasnt a bolt on it that wasnt aftermarket. It was a 99 frame with a 07 motor I I beleive
I installed the same kit and didn't have to shave anything to fit the cylinder but I will say I am a firm believer in Namura I have been running the same piston and everything since I did the original install 6 years ago and I ride every summer and I'm fairly hard on my machines.. I don't beat them but I do run the machine to its potential.. I did buy the oversized studs kit but I haven't had to take the motor apart so it's still on the shelf... but helicoils almost never hold up for head studs.. my question is instead of helicoils couldn't you have bought the oversized studs kit or was that what was stripped...???
wish you would of showed how you put on the cam chain. otherwise very enjoyable and informative
Did you guys notice a difference with the ct racing exhaust on the ex? I just purchased the kit for my z400 plan on doing harescrambles with it I Herd that it was the best exhaust in the shootout they had !! Just got my frame powdercoated an shocks on the way also some other goodies
Yes the CT racing pipe won the Dirt Wheels shootout back in the day. We had our pipe installed with a complete motor package to we didn't evaluate the pipe by itself. It will only do better on your Z. Every mod you do to that engine makes a bigger difference than it does on the Honda. Good choice and good luck!
Thanks !!
These videos are the best you guys gotta make a new one !!!
Do a cannondale build or see how it stacks up to modern day 450s
+Ivan Slawsky Oh, like a Classics test of a Cannondale. That would be a fun test film to make. We would need to go on a hunt for an owner of a Moto 440 in our area.
+ATVonDemand that'd be awesome. I hear they have like the worst crankshaft in the world
Not sure. They had issues though.
I did a R&D ride with cannondale in 2002 I think. Then i bought one of the first moto 440s. We raced a blaze440 and cannibal in the baja 1000. My sponsor at the time had the software to re tune the bikes, and cannondale sent us their in house race tune. It did not matter what bike you were riding or what you had done to it, if I could see you I was going to pass you. With a slip on hmf pipe and that race tune they were beasts.
What's the song in the Intro called, nice video by the way
You guys should do a yamaha warrior 350 mx build
they cant =[ nobody has shocks or a arms for them
Sure is hard to feed the cam / timing chain thru the head after bolting on. Wonder how he magically pulled it thru... Nice editing
do a trx450r woods racer next please
+Tactical Not next, but yes. Its the perfect candidate to build a competitive el-cheapo woods racer out of. We need that machine on our to do list for sure.
ATVonDemand rock on guys!
They did one years ago. It was coverage of Chris Earlywines racer. It's the yellow quad in the beginning credits.
+Goody's Atv I Don't know if I still have that video. I will have to look for it. I think that was from back in my ATV Scene days. Chris Earlywine, I miss that dude.
I miss this series
what was the electric start button they used off of? couldn't hear what he said..thank you
+Isaiah Hiatt It was a Suzuki RM dirt bike kill switch wires as a start button.
These are the best vids
+Nick Gloskey Thanks
Sweet!
NorthTexasFarming thanks, we had a lot of fun with this project back in the day.
I like how the aftermarket 440 cylinder is marked as 397. :D
LouCFur90 what does that mean u think it REALY isn't a 440 because of that stamp ?
No. I like the fact that its a sneaky big bore. :)
Under rated to win there class got ya
Hey Guys, it would be really cool If you did this to a Yamaha raptor 600
Dang, back in the day when 13 year olds could hop on 450 class quads
The things i like about the 400ex is they have the same engine as the XR400 all you do is change the oil every now and then and put fuel in it and your ready to go none of this high maintenance shit if you want to keep up with a 450 just throw a fcr39 carb on a full exhaust and you got the power or just get a banshee
I ran my 400ex in a gncc race with the oil filter in backwards. Finished 10th overall. After the race I realized the mistake, put the filter in the right way and raced on that same engine for 8 more years. They were pretty much bulletproof
lol, it was the 1983 Black&Decker drill that chewed the motor to hell.
Cool
👍
Gas gas 300 two stroke. Can't remember what yrs made or the price of one but from what I remwmber they are badass powervalve fairly modern 300 two stroke atvs. Would live to see any info or videos on one and what they are like and what you can do with one. The only vids I can find are of idiots w money enough to have one and think they are badass ripping because they cut two donuts and run up and down a little field road and have no idea how to keep it on the pipe pulling hard but if they did they are too scared to do it and hold it
Don't use the old bolts use arb new bolts.
All new bolts would have been nice.
they make a 400 race class
Some cross country and motocross series have them. Sometimes they are an age class for younger riders.
ATVonDemand
Is there a novice class for 400ex stock?
Flat oval dirt tracks?
why doesn't honda produce 400's anymore?
Silenced 505 they discontinued sport quads in total I believe. I think they stopped them at 2014, and produced 450's into 2016.
No stop 450s in 14 at well
namura makes terrible pistons
spencer 124 thanks for sharing your experience
spencer 124
I've used Nothing besides Wiesco over the years, never had a problem..Never heard of Nuera or whatever they're called.
@@forwarddrive4066 Where have you been? They've been popular for a long time. They are cast, but 1/2 the price of Wiseco, so are good for average riders. I prefer forged most of the time, but cast for start/stop trail riding.
Chinese Namura clones are terrible. Real Namura are as good it better than stock.
44 years old and I can't ride because it's illegal in communist Massachusetts.
I'm sorry sir, on behalf of the United States of America
Come on over it dont stop me
They really fuckin hate machine here!
Lol, the same quad that was built by morons that was purchased and they made a video about how shitty it was and the mechanics didn't know simple small engine basics using the wrong top end components, saddddd.
😆 it is
Nasty machine!
