Hi! Any piece that has a gloss to it, I do scuff sand before using Fusion. If a piece is old wood and very dry, then I do think you can skip sanding. That’s just been my experience as a user and retailer for 6 years now-glossy surface, scuff sanding is a must 😊
Fusion is an acrylic paint :) It does still have a matte finish, not quite flat like chalk paint is, but not glossy. The benefit of Fusion is low prep (compared to using a latex), and high durability once fully cured. No fumes, easy for the average DIY’er to use. A great paint!
My mineral paint piece is chipping right down to the bare wood?? If I seal it with a poly will that stop the paint from chipping? Has that ever happened to you?
Cleaning isn’t necessary on new or raw wood, but I would consider priming raw pine with an oil or shellac based primer because the knots may bleed through and stain the paint. If you’re painting a super dark color, it doesn’t matter quite as much :)
Hii melini. First off sorry if i spelled you name wrong. Just need some advice and help on painting my furniture. Please help me out here with your advice. I just came across your videos and they are amazing.
It's a certain kind of sponge sold in the kitchen cleaning aisle, called Dobie. It just has a bit of grit to it, but not enough to scratch your furniture
Oh...good tips. I am so bummed. I spent all of time a a double headboard with Fushion..then I was so excited to use Fushiin glitter for highlights in the middle. That glitter type paint is a mess..so much that I am going to scrap the whole piece. I see no way to fix it..total mess. Beware of their glitter paint.
Their metallic paints can be a big tougher to work with, has to do with the metallic mica pigments. They have more texture in them, and you need to make sure you paint in one direction only, so they all lay down the same way and reflect light the same direction, or you will see streaks.
Thank you. I’m getting ready to paint a dining table for my granddaughter. You have helped me tons!
Thankyou for this tutorial it made my first project less scary. cant wait to see more from lost and found
Yay!! You’re welcome :) You can do it!
Thanks for the tips.
Thank you, that was really helpful before I start my first project.
You're so welcome!
Oh my gosh! I went and got the supplies you mentioned and cleaned a piece before staining and painting it. It was filthy!! Thanks for the tip!!
You stained AND painted?
Loved your video. Thank you for all the tips on preparing furniture for Fusion paint.
Thank you for sharing!
This was helpful, thank you. Why do you sand though when FMP specifically says no sanding is needed?

Very informative. Thank you.
I never GOT chalk paint. It seemed no better than flat paint.
Explain the benefit of mineral paint.

Whats the difference between mineral paint and chalk paint?
Fusion MIneral Paint is acrylic and seals itself, while chalk paint is porous and requires a topcoat to be sealed :)
Gigantic orange cat? How about the gigantic tarantula! 😬
Thanks for the cleaning tips.

Margaret Frook how did you prep it? Did you thoroughly clean and lightly sand it first?
If it unfinished pine wood what do I need to do before I paint?

What's a tack cloth? We're in NZ
It’s a thin cloth that is kind of sticky or “tacky”, hence the name :) Woodworkers use them to wipe off sanding dust
Can’t you just use a magic eraser?
I'm sorry what kind of sponge
I like to use a Dobie sponge to clean. You can find them at Walmart :)
Doby sponge? Is this just a flat kitchen type sponge?
