I've had chickens most of my life... Farm kid from Illinois, here! My fav was Maybelle, an aracuna. We had many good years together on our farm. She went to the local gas station with me, had a relationship with the garbage guys, and would come into the house when she was lonely. She was kind enough to use a puppy pad on movie nights. Anyone who thinks animals are just dumb beasts has never met one. You inspire me, as you must have inspired others.... Keep doing it because you are needed in the world. I currently have a male Betta named Kheper, who was so traumatized by his situation, I took him home. A year later, he is vibrant, beautiful, and demands actual hugs. Every night when I get home, I wash my hands, dip them in his epic three gallon tank, and he cruises between my fingers for pets. He's learned to spit water when he's feeling left out.... I have cats too. During thunderstorms, he prefers my hand in his tank so he can rest in my palm. Every being seeks connection... You get it! Keep it up!
chickens are a lot smarter than they get credit for (not the smartest bird but alot smarter than ppl think), i picked up a rooster (coz i wanted to eat him) after spending time with him, watching what he does and him engaging with me cuddeling, playing, being goofy...dude became my friend (fyi i dont eat my friends) and that was 3 years ago, we go on walks, watching tv, play with shiny marbles in the sand. he makes me laugh (his "hous pants" alone look hilarious on him) and he is a real charmer and a ladys magnet xD (met my girlfriend through him, in a park when we were strolling around)
Absolutely. People who think animals are dumb, have never bonded and owned one. This is a sweet story and it's wonderful and important to see that Sammi was taken to the vet. But please, please, don't take your chicken to ocean, or in a boat. There are other things you can do to provide love and enrichment for your chicken, that's safer and more natural for her. I’m so sorry for the loss of your feather-baby. I’m glad you were able to find comfort in adopting another. I can empathise, as I lost my baby rabbit to GI stasis just 3 days after Christmas 2018. I was so broken-hearted that I didn’t think I could develop such a bond again … until (in August 2020) I met a little chihuahua named “Aria”, who was rescued from a horribly neglectful/abusive past. For a long while, only my mum & I were worthy of her trust, but eventually, two of my older sisters & one of my nephews have since won her over. She is still terrified of everyone else, though, even my youngest niece & nephew. My sweet Aria used to pee every time she was picked up, even if it was my mum or myself, but she’s thankfully a little better (though she still has occasions where she’ll pee). She’s also got a “wall-pooping” habit, from the trauma of being squashed into a tiny crate with other dogs & sadly, she still does this 1/3 of the time. One thing that breaks my heart is that she will often flinch as though she expects someone to hit her, sometimes even with me & my mum. I’m positive that Aria was physically abused, as when they rescued her at 3 years old, she had a lot of broken teeth, so she can’t eat solids like kibble (& the people who had her were drug addicts, hoarding a number of animals). She is also terrified of other dogs, because the people we got her from said that some bigger dogs had continuously gotten her by the scruff & flung her about, so we can’t even walk her without her freaking out & barking like crazy out of pure fear (at which point, I have to hold Aria & reassure her that she’s safe). Although she hasn’t been officially diagnosed, everyone who knows her seem to agree with me that she’s definitely suffering PTSD. Thankfully, Aria will never have to suffer the way she did ever again; because we all shower her with love, feed her lots of yummy food & I always personally ensure that no one will do anything that makes her feel unsafe. I do still miss my baby rabbit & he’ll always have a special place in my heart, but my sweet little chihuahua has truly helped me through the grief & let me love again. As for now, I honestly can’t imagine my life without her. 🐇🥲💖🐕

Wow, I was sad to hear Sammi passed. Yeah, chickens get little respect as pet buddies - I too once they were brainless birds - but I'm glad more and more I see on RUclips that they can be affectionate and awesome friends.
Aw! She's so awesome! I have a lot of chickens, but my banty hen is my pet. She loves rides to town, & to my parents' home. The kids give her wagon rides, etc. She's my little buddy & I will be heartbroken when she passes. I love her so much.
My darling Patricia would have loved to go on the beach but she was very sick when we got her and I never got the chance to take her. Most people may think chickens are just food but they are happy and adventurous little creatures. You’ll always be in my heart Patricia
Chickens are awesome! I, right now, have a chicken that I purchased as a day old in 2013/2014. Stella the Gold Laced Wyandotte. They can live to 20 yrs old, though they can get a lot of illnesses and everything and their mama eats them. The hybrids tend to be less hardy than the heritage breeds in my experience. My Silver Laced Wyandotte rooster (Celeste) and my Amercana (Puff the Magic Dragon), who is still laying blue green eggs at 7-8 yrs old, have been my all time favorites. I’m so sad at each passing. I feel for your loss. Who knew that chickens could be incredible pets. Plus they give us eggs.
Love this! I have a slightly disabled rooster sleeping in my room. We live a block from the beach. t's rainy season now, and not a good time for swimming, but in a couple of months, when the rain passes, you've inspired me, we are definately going back, will bring a bottle of water and stay awhile!

Dogs are predator animals. Not a good mix for a chicken.
@@timefortinybirdandfriends6565Some breeds are fine with chickens, actually.
You are such a gift to these lovely animals, thank you for being so loving and kind it is clearly reciprocated by them all.
I'm so sorry to hear your buddy is now at a beach you can't go to yet, but how amazing and wonderful that a stranger came into your life and made herself a place in your heart! You're a good Dad. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂
This is so precious people like you tell people animals are here to teach love and respect. I feel guilty every time I eat chicken but I'm glad there is enough love to go around for the chicken Thanks
Ohhh bud, I'm so sorry for your loss 😢 Jetskiing? She obviously trusted you completely
Great job, never forgotten and a great new family member. Thanks for showing the world love is here for the taking ❤
What a wonderful loving relationship with Sammi. I loved to hear and watch her enjoying herself. She lived a longer than normal life for a chicken didn't she? So sad to hear of her passing. RIP Sammi. BUT she must have sent you a new friend to keep you company. May you both be happy together for a long long time.❤❤❤❤
Awwww
I totally agree animals all animals are a gift they all have feelings
Thank you for sharing your experience with your feather babies 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
The animals need love too and with persons like you this world it better. Que Dios le bendiga siempre.

Thank you for sharing these stories. My condolences on the passing of Sammy. As others have noted, she lived her best life with you.
Thank you for your kind words. Sammy was indeed a special chicken🐔❤️
Poor Sammi baby. She has a great with her papa, lots of fun and love, and so will Gypsi.♥️♥️
To bad everyone don’t feel the same about animals as you do,it would be a better world,God bless you 👍🏽
Well this was an unexpected lovely little story. I’m sad for your loss of your first hen but what a surprising blessing to get another hen at your doorstep 😳❤️ Great story and thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Now we know to go to the beach! Im enjoying my flock of 30 girls they all want attention even my coffee. Blessings on a beautiful life.
Wow, I was sad to hear Sammi passed. Yeah, chickens get little respect as pet buddies - I too once they were brainless birds - but I'm glad more and more I see on RUclips that they can be affectionate and awesome friends.
So sorry for your loss. You gave her a wonderful life
My hen looks so silly in her pool.
She latched onto my luggage carrier for a ride to Walmart.
She's a polish crested bearded hen so she looks unique
Whoops last post a mistake. What a true gift you have received. Lucky man.
Chickens are beautiful creatures, loving & clever. ❤❤❤❤
I grieve for and with you, Dave 😟🙏💜🌻
That's awesome. God bless you and your chicken. Hope you are always safe and healthy 🙏🙏🙏
What a beautiful story beautiful heart this man has
Love this! I have a slightly disabled rooster sleeping in my room. We live a block from the beach. t's rainy season now, and not a good time for swimming, but in a couple of months, when the rain passes, you've inspired me, we are definately going back, will bring a bottle of water and stay awhile!
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing this heartwarming story.💖🐓
Sammi came back as Gypsi...Bless! I love my chickens; my girl Mimi is a hoot! She thinks she's a parrot :)
