Never knew anything about caterpillar drive/track mechanisms before. Thanks for filming your work on maintenance of these well worn machines. I see the forklift is already indispensable!
These old riggs are great, they have had who knows how many hour's on them, but you replace the moving parts that ware down or give out, and they keep on going. I am with you Warren, this newer stuff doesn't last with all the electrical garbage on them. Thanks for the video.
This machine had a lot of repair needed with the injector seal, steering clutches. brake drums, bands and undercarriage. It should be in pretty good shape for a long time. Be careful because you only get one back for this lifetime. Thanks Warren!!!
Appreciate all your hard work. Not only in the shop but the extra time you also spend editing and posting these videos in the evening after a long day pulling wrenches!!!
That welding looks strong to me. Everyone is commenting about the forklift. Once you experience how useful they are, you always want one around ! Yes, with a D8 you won't be lifting that sprocket with one man, its a HEAVY son of a gun.
Most of the OTC stuff used to be made here in Owatonna Minnesota. Not anymore. It’s owned by Bosch now. Knew a lot of guys and gals that worked there over the years. When I first got married we lived about 6 blocks south of the main plant. On a summer night with the windows open you could hear the big forging presses banging away. The shop I worked at, we did a lot of testing on new tools they were developing. Pretty cool stuff. We ended up with a lot of cool tools. We had a king pin press that used that same hydraulic cylinder.
stick welders are great for welding out side and on a windy day = out in the field - MIG = yes everyday - TIG = great finish and really more like soldering and brazing ! thanks warren great job = time out sit down and pat the dog .
Thanks for the explanation for the sprocket installation, more to the process than meets the eye. Cutting bearing races off with a torch is risky, but done a lot by people. I was always concerned about seat surface distortion from excessive heat, but still it some times is the only option left, I know because I have been there. Thanks for the ride along.
This parts issue really sucks.. ive been having to rebuild old parts and cobble stuff together I'm glad I save all of my old junk and parts because they are coming in really handy right now..
Not just parts issue, we have several (big) apartment jobs that need miles of PVC drain pipe, our plumbing supply house is empty, so called Home Depot & Menards & Lowes, they asked how much do we need? Well how much do you have, we will send a semi trailer in the morning, its only 10-foot stuff instead of 20 feet long, but no matter the price it has do, if we dont stay on schedule, we not only lose the contract, then pay 100-grand fine
You lay some nice beads Warren. I love your videos. Fascinating work on the D4D. I have never learned much about those fascinating monster machines. You open doors for us to look through and I am spellbound watching your fine work. Thank you!
Great video Warren really enjoy watching you cut and weld those sprockets for the Cat. Glad to see your new forklift is making jobs easier. It's probably paid for It's self by now. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Warren.
Looking good. Great progress. Love the adjustable height work surface. It always makes it so much easier to have it at a comfortable work height. That forklift has sure made your life easier even with its ongoing issues. It is much better than not having one. I am learning lots about many different machines and processes I was never exposed to in my working life. Hang in there and keep them coming.
Fantastic skill Warren I just love watching a man with the skills you have, welder, mechanic, auto Electrition, and computer tech. Thanks for the lessons Warren. Take care of yourself Warren and spend some time in R&R you need to unwind and enjoy your family. Tom UK 🇬🇧
Warren i watch every video and i never comment. Just to sat your a really hard working guy and i wish most people would take a leaf out of your book. You do your best to help and educate all of us and for 1 im truly thankful. Stay safe.
Your videos recently have been top notch content. These old Cats are very interesting, and the repair processes even more so. Thank you for taking your time to record. Please look after your back more!! Saying that, I never do 😳.
I didnt meantion it earlier in my other post ,awsome welding job Warren. I'd like to find a mig welder like yours sometime .Great job as always .thanks for keeping it real
Keith Rucker used this neat frame gantry with large swivel shop wheels and has a chain and block setup. That could probably help. He was saying that it wasn't expensive.
Hello Warren. Our compressor is a big old industrial out of a Factory. It's never short of air. You get your self home lad. It will do you good for a change.
Warren ,you are definitely theMAN ,but you have to start looking after yourself, take it from a 77 yr old mechanic who has worn out knees shoulders etc.- - but I still love WORKING HARD keeps you SANE and reasonably healthy 🥃🍺🍻👍🏻
So bud been in area where no internet so have missed almost two weeks of videos ! Glad to see you are making head way! See the fork lift working did you get to work out the problems with it so works smoothly and easier’ bet it turns out to be a life saver ! Keep up the good fight!!! Hope you the best! Thanks for your time to put out videos!!!
I learn every day looking at your work , I am shiting on how you lift that heavy hub, plenty of spinach like pop eye. Thanks for sharing your video's Warren.
I weld a bit in construction I've just started using 1.2mm flux cor . Love it . Just have a pocket full of tips . At.the end of the day I run a 1.5mm drill through them an there good to go the next day .
Hi Warren don’t you be hurting your back man , iv hurt myself once and I pay for it now in winter 🥶 you take care phill from England , I know your not too keen on us over here
Yet another Awesome vidmmo from the straight forward No bullshit MR. Warren. Thank you SIr. Keep up the excellent work Warren !!!!! Oh on another note could toy possibly steer me in the direction for a wiring diagram for ford 9000 1990 to 1999
Yea getting parts right now is crazy I'm waiting 4-6 weeks on just 2 inch shaft stock. Having to just put in some machined cold rolled for now to get my customer back up and running again.
we did a lot with NR211-MP.. 1 trigger pull cutting edge replacement welds on 953s... lot of house mover stuff too.. Lincoln salesman was in-- wrote down the settings I was using-- said " you can't run that fast... I told him "watch".. had an LN7 feeder turned wide open-- 17 lb spool disappeared in about 10 minutes..
I always wanted to find a lathe to cut the sprockets. Instead i find center of the sprocket and use a circle cutter(bar with a hole in each end) and cut it. I bevel it with my air arc.
Pretty common for the sprockets to go on a little too far if they've been off/on a few times. Interesting.....have never seen a Cat of that age that has the frame rails bolted to the bevel gear case instead of being welded into one piece. Maybe that's a feature of being an SA (Ag) Cat.
Warren for as hard as you work I hope your customers treat you fairly and don't string you out on the receivables. Always good information thanks for making the video's.
You are also mentioning about your pallets and stuff and how you're going to swap motor stuff. That's one of the advantages of having someone to work with is you can bounce things off of someone else and it just makes it easier to decide which one to do. I always had a better working environment with others, but I was working for someone else. Not for myself like you are!!
I am actually working on a electronic ignitor for oxy fuel torches right now. I am tired of using strikers or lighters and would love to just hit a button to ignite torch. The prototype I built that I am using now workes really good but the success rate for lighting the torch the first try is only 90% and I would like to get above 97% before bringing it to market. When I get a little further along I will send you one to try out.
I know you have to lift heavy stuff but try hard to only do what you have to with your back. 6 fused vertebrae latter I don't pick up much of anything. Holding my cat for long even makes it hurt. Keep those videos coming as you can.
Interesting thing that you are using flux core. I took a welding class at the local college where the instructor said he prefers flux core over mig because he felt most people got a stronger weld. It isn't as pretty as mig so the internet experts wont be satisfied.
Old things are all better than new things, things are made to fail, and not be rebuilt. A throw away society. Capitalism at it's peak. The last good year for chevy trucks was 94, same with pete and KW.
No sense in wasting that good Ingersol Rand air tank- make yourself a coupler hose, fittings, gang it to your newer tank. Increase your capacity. Don't neglect draining!
The newer air compressors build air slower because of all the emissions sensors and catalytic converters. They are less reliable as well, compared to the older ones.
2/5/22; just watched you Fluxcore weld those 2 big sprockets, then use your friends (large, heavy, blue & white) hydraulic press. Then you spliced to 2nd sprocket install...here you commented about how you, alone, man-handled that heavy press to this sprocket. Idea 💡! A dolly to hold, roll, lift to/from axel height. If none exist-or to your liking-then you fabricate/weld-up one! Give it a name, paint 🎨 it & show it to all us YT viewers/offer it 4sale etc. Ahh yes, you can do this with all that spare time you have...right? 😆 Stay safe Warren! Enjoy your channel, hard work & honest comments much appreciated.👍👍👍🧑🔧😊🍺
Hello Warren, Thanks for sharing. If the bearing were all okay and push came to shove, could the sprockets be cut-off in place and then welded in place on the machine?
@@westerntruckandtractorrepa1353 Interesting Warren. You mentioned another person on here about welding and I was just making a suggestion for you to maybe go look at him as well. He's a field welder here in Texas and does a remarkable job. I got the suggestion to watch your channel from KT3406E and did so. I watched a ton of your stuff. I can certainly appreciate your mechanical abilities and experience-based knowledge and how you apply it. However this snarky reply to me when I was just trying to give you another avenue to look at leaves me a LOT bewildered and disgusted. Beat of luck to you - snow and al!!!
Never knew anything about caterpillar drive/track mechanisms before. Thanks for filming your work on maintenance of these well worn machines. I see the forklift is already indispensable!
That forklift sure does sound good. Can't wait for the videos, where you fix it up, bringing back old glory.
These old riggs are great, they have had who knows how many hour's on them, but you replace the moving parts that ware down or give out, and they keep on going. I am with you Warren, this newer stuff doesn't last with all the electrical garbage on them. Thanks for the video.
Your old equipment is going to be gold

Fantastic work.

Gal Dang Warren...YOU CAN WELD!!!! That some B aint comming loose!!!
Night Warren, Thanks for the video. Very impressive pump for doing what you needed to get done. Fast too!!!
Sure have learned so much on this cat series.thanks for all the posts.
Warren, you need an overhead craine. One that covers several bays.
I'm always concerned about the safety of someone working alone!
That is a hell of a project to complete by yourself. A nice flat plate with fork pockets on the bottom would make a nice table on the forklift.
Hello Warren. Our compressor is a big old industrial out of a Factory. It's never short of air. You get your self home lad. It will do you good for a change.

Great job Warren.

You weld a hell of a lot better than most I've seen.
It'll be nice having all those Cats done. Dang interesting work you had to do on them. Thanks for showing us what went on!
I sure like your new forklift
Thank you Warren.👍
Thanks for the video, Warren.
My back hurts every time you lift a sprocket. I worked like that when I was younger and now at 70 I’m paying for it.
the press for the sprocket remove/reseat is quite the tool that makes life easier. Not enough of these jobs to own one though.

A forklift can be a awesome thing to have around. Dirt dobbers make fun of my welding
7:25 that welder really diggin.
Zie dat jou vorklift al goe in gebruik genomen is weer een knappe film warren goe bezig beste
It would be supper cool if your shop had a gantry crane so whouldn't have to use the service truck crane.

I think OTC make most of caterpillar OEM tooling. Either that or OTC make direct copies of CAT tools.
Hello Warren,
Thanks for sharing.
If the bearing were all okay and push came to shove, could the sprockets be cut-off in place and then welded in place on the machine?
Three hernias later had me rolling on floor.
sometimes you just gotta do what ya gotta do
