As a Beaver fan going way back (played backyard football with Mike Riley in grade school) I have to say, like Steve, I am becoming a Mountain West fan. They know who they are, there is fun competition, it is regional....just a whole lot to root for and be engaged with. I hope the two conferences merge and keep building on all that.
Thank you boys for your continued reporting and insights!

Can't wait to see all those games against OSU and WSU this year. I think you all are a good fit with us over at the MWC.

It’s always good to get a Pac-2 update. I’m not the best supporter in the comments section, but I hate how they got left behind. Rice is the only other long-time power team in G5. I don’t include some short time Big East teams. I would’ve loved it more if other Pac-12 teams had been left behind!

I do find this interesting. Gloria Nevarez understands her position in the negotiating room for things like the CFP. I do believe a 12-team CFP is a step in the right direction, but I'm concerned that will be one of the last steps in the right direction before it goes all pear-shaped. I am thankful the G5 Conferences even have 1 seat at the CFP table, and they should do what they can to keep that 1 seat. It's everyone else in the negotiating room I can't seem to trust (mainly SEC and B1G) to hold their end of the bargain.
As for OrSU and WSU, if they can't rebuild the PAC, then they need to wrap their heads around the fact that the MWC is the only real landing spot or dwelling place for them going forward.

    • @integritymatters5114

The thankful surfs. Ohh we get 1 seat and an even lower percentage payout. Why do we feel thankful? Make it like MBB. All 9-10 with PAC, conf champ plus 2 at large wild cards. And payout like NCAA MBB units, win your way to bigger paychecks. Upsets have real meaning then.

@@integritymatters5114 Dude, look. I want what you want too. There should be more representation of the G5 Conferences in the CFP. That's the logical thing to do, but guess what? We're living in an illogical society. We have a setup in the CFP where the B1G/SEC (behind closed doors FOX/ESPN) are dictating terms no matter what the G5 says or does. You have to take what you can get and be thankful you even have that 1 seat at the table. If you don't understand that, I can't help you.
Your username is integritymatters. Buddy, I know about integrity. It's one of the key words I live by.

Good show. I am a Beaver fan but will be watching as many MWC game as I can. I won't watch any SEC or B!G games as I feel they are responsible for destroying college football. Them and the TV networks. Eventially the P2 will become its own thing I believe and they both can KMA, so they won't get me watching them.

Great episode guys! Clearly I think the American and the PAC/Mountain West are the Power 2 of the G5 and they will definitely expand. For the American I would look at a James Madison, Old Dominion, Georgia State or Appalachian State with VCU for basketball (due to Army being football only). I expect Memphis to be a very strong playoff contender this year with Tulane, East Carolina, Army, South Florida, UAB, and UTSA being very competitive.

    • @michaelwall3393
      @michaelwall3393 5 месяцев назад +1

I just looked up the 2024 schedules, and both Army & Navy will finish 6-6 most likely. I do expect ECU to be better and also be 6-6 or 7-5 and same for Tulsa if Ken Wilson is the right choice for coach. UAB is another year away from bowl eligibility and a winning record. Memphis, FAU, UTSA, Tulane, USF, & UNT I expect each to have at least 8 wins. But Temple, UAB, Charlotte, and maybe Rice will have losing seasons overall even if one has a five hundred record in conference play.
What would be best for AAC this season would be to have 4-teams with 10+ wins, 2-teams with 8+ wins, 3-teams with 7+ wins, 2-teams with 6+ wins, and 3-teams with only 5 wins but no one under 5. Last season the AAC had 6 new programs in the conference and 8 new coaches. This season the MWC has a new schedule arrangement with WazzU and OzzU and 7 new coaches. The MWC may take a step back a bit, and AAC slightly step ahead or lateral step before moving forward. This will allow the SBC to strengthen its position and actually give ground for CuSA and MAC to take advantage and at least top teams make strides.

I like the Mountain West and, frankly, I prefer the G5 over the Power conferences (especially since everything happened with the Pac-12). I honestly believe that, despite the hit they'll probably have to take in money and perceived prestige anyway, Wazzu is a better fit with the MWC than with anyone else including most of the soon-to-be former Pac-12 schools (including Washington).

  • @kennethmayner

I would love the Mountain West and AAC to schedule crossover non-conference games. The 2007 Hawaii Bowl where ECU beat Boise was an outstanding game and a great moment for Pirate fans.

The MWC definitely need to get something going with the AAC. Even better if the MWC, AAC and Sunbelt could get a bunch of games with each other on the schedule. Obviously I would want the MWC to get the G5 CFP spot each year, but I would feel much better about not getting it if the AAC or Sunbelt beat us on the field. Now more than ever we need to stand together and build up our brands. Steel sharpens steel.

It should be top 6 conference champs at least, but a real national championship would be every conf champ plus a couple at large at most like NFL wild cards.

I like Jared Mosley UNT AD idea of an 8 team G5 playoff with the winner playing in the CFP. That way the 5 G5 champions plus 3 at large can play on the field, generate more revenue and interest in G5 and a true G5 champion will be in the CFP. Why do you think UTEP doesn’t get invited into the MWC?

I like what y’all talked about, but I do disagree with the take of the B12 commissioner, I feel like he knows what the big 12 exactly is and markets it’s brilliantly. His basketball broadcast ideas are interesting. I also think that the MW is below the AAC, even with the new additions. Closer to the Sunbelt than the AAC. Can’t look at the top programs and ignore the bottom ones. MW has programs like Nevada, New Mexico and Hawaii who haven’t been good in a long time.

Can the G5s send their 1 rep to the big playoff and then have their own playoffs with the remaining G5 big boys? G5 Conference winners (-1 of course/Big boy Championship) 4 conference champs and 4 at large teams. All from the G5 ranks.

G5 is still reactive and need to push their own agenda and screw the ACC,SEC,B10,B12 conferences. Regional viewers want the G5 product so develop your own market and don’t give B4 any games. Have your own real championship that is inclusive.

  • @integritymatters5114
    @integritymatters5114 5 месяцев назад

The money is still even more skewed toward p4 with this reshape. It is disgusting. I have refused to watch p5 fb for 5 years. I will continue to support the MW, CUSA, etc and watch and attend their games. The bigs can suck it. They are no longer STUDENT athletes, it isn’t college ball. The G5 at least still enforce academic requirements. CFB will lose audience with the path they are on.

Someone tell Steve that the Mountain Worst (Yes Worst not West) didn’t have divisions last season of 2023 among other conferences that went ahead and did away with them. That was what led to the befuddled mess and quagmire that three G5 conferences and two P5/Now P4 conferences were dredging through to get a champion. It is a mess that will really rear its ugly head this fall going into December of Conference Championship Games Weekend.
The MWC & AAC in particular were in a mess with deciding which two teams would qualify and play for the conference championship. In the Big12 and ACC had half of the same dilemma, as one team in each of the two Autonomous Conferences were a lock but their respective opponents were not. The BiG10 and SEC will not have divisions this season of 24 and possibly 25. I think the only conference keeping divisions will be the SBC for now.
I say for all conferences even the ones with an odd number of teams, go back to divisions for multiple reasons and justifications. I am not just talking about for football either. Every conference uses almost the exact same criteria in tie-breaking for conference championships or seeding in conference tournaments and so on. That shit needs to change.
I want to make it clear that it is not just the Mountain West and American Athletic Conferences and Sun Belt Conferences that do this rink-a-dink decisions on top two teams in football or all other sports if multiple teams have identical overall records and conference records. All conferences do this same bunk because it’s about as many teams as possible to compete in post season play and improve their strength of schedule and ends up biting their conferences in the butt.
For instance the Mountain West Conference had six schools last season in football that had legitimate claims to be in the conference championship game. At least in the Mountain West Conference you had one with 9 wins and three with 8 wins and two with 7 wins. Many people will say it should have been UNLV vs San Jose State in conference championship game. But it actually should have been a rematch between Fresno State and Wyoming. But the stupid tie-breakers and other goofy nutty gunk had Boise State in it.
The American Athletic Conference was equally stupid in deciding which two teams would play in the conference championship game. Tulane was clearly deserving but UTSA and Memphis were equally worthy. Now for the AAC it worked out sort of but not the MWC or SBC for that matter, as didn’t mention their bigger mess.
This is something that needs to change and go back to division play for all sports and have provisions and caveats if it happens that the top two teams in a conference are in the same division have them play in conference championship game or seeded 1 & 2 in the Olympic sports and Non-Olympic sports. This is something that I been wanting to talk about and get off my mind for a while now. You all know I am right.

Boise State vs San Jose State should have been the championship. It’s not that hard. Boise was 1-0 H2H
      San Jose was 1-1
      UNLV was 0-1.
BSU won the H2H so they host.
You sound like a mad FSU fan after they collapsed late. Turns out that 6-2 is better than anything else any other team got. The team that really got screwed was San Jose

    • @scottyclayton2501

You understand that San Jose BSU and UNLV all went 6-2 in conference. Non con games don’t count. Explain how a 4-4 and 5-3 team should play over 3 6-2 teams
