  • I am nearly at the end of my Thames Path walk. I have a mixture of feelings, an excitement about completing my goal and a sense of sadness that it will all be over next time; after this walk.
The green fields and quiet villages of the upper reaches of the Thames are far behind me now. I am surrounded by buildings of the latter centuries and parks that are hemmed in by brick, stone and tarmac. There is a business on the south side of the Thames which overflows into the river, the business of leisure and health. Surprisingly this business carries it's own peace and apart from the almost continuous noise of aircraft I found the walk quiet restful and restoring.
The north bank of the Thames is quite different as I progressed along my walk. Here is the intensity and noise of the city, and by the time I had reached Vauxhall Bridge I was in no doubt that I was in the midst of all that I think of as the City of London.
