The general folk in the UK talk in these ways. We don't like to dramatise or overreact to crisis. That would be seen as losing one's cool. Finding the way forward is the solution, not USA style hype and movie style presentation of news.

Gave 2 to a couple who were looking for bandanas to make their own masks. Before the nation opens, ALL people should be required to wear a mask if in public. So many people are coming into the store with no mask and coughing. 70% of the customers have no mask.

Me, too. I've been making my 50 year old sewing machine work harder than ever - even became a sewing machine mechanic, in the middle of a batch of around 30 masks, because it wasn't working correctly. Never imagined when I learned to sew, that I could use than knowledge to help in a pandemic! I finished off my *second* 5000meter spool of thread this afternoon....no wonder my sewing machine needs an occasional break!

Except those increases are not more than the Covid-19 death rate. Based on the CDC and WHO data available, influenza kills about .1% (one tenth of one percent) of those infected. Fortunately we have vaccines and some anti viral meds for that. COVID-19 has a mortality rate for the general population (all those infected) of between 2-3.4%, so assume that of the US population of 327 million, then 100 million are eventually infected, that's less than 1/3rd- that would be a death rate of 2,000,000 - 3,400,000 citizens. That's just for the US.
Approximately 15,000,000 would require hospitalization, many of those will require respiratory support at some time during their illness. The mortality rate may spike due to lack of resources. And that doesn't include the people who would have needed hospitalization even if Covid-19 didn't exist. *The amount of people who will die due to overwhelmed health care systems is set to exceed those of Covid-19.* That is why we must slow down the spread!

I’d rather tell people they are protecting themselves versus they are protecting others because I honestly feel that a huge portion of people just don’t care about protecting others. People are weird, but that’s how it is. Just think of how unsuccessful it was in the US to tell college kids they would be protecting old people if they didn’t storm the beaches on spring break. It just did not work. If they thought they could die, it might have. Just like the masks fiasco, the message to young people was just plain wrong. Sad but true. Unfortunately opening up too soon is also recipe for disaster. Patience buys us the gift of time...time for a cure, time for a vaccine, time to reduce the spread. This is like any other natural disaster. Help is on the way. Unlike any other natural disaster, this one effects the world. Fortunately not all people are giving up. Not all people are going crazy. Those who are will have history judge them, science study them. The majority of people are calm and measured in their response to this natural disaster, knowing that help is on the way, as clumsy as that seems right now. Very few have given in to the helplessness that breeds hopelessness. The rest of us will responsibly bide our time, letting all frontline workers, support people, scientists do their jobs in order to provide the rest of us with safety and security without adding unnecessary burden to their already heavy loads. . So many doctors, nurses, police officers, bus drivers etc etc have died already because the willfully ignorant didn’t think it necessary to refrain from travel, gathering or isolating while infected. The shame remains on those who thought it wouldn’t happen to them, the suffering on their families who have to bury them.

With the shortage and difficulty of procuring PPE in the UK it might have been easier to build a factory and make them ourselves. But we don't do manufacturing. 🙄 This should have been part of the planning for a pandemic. 🤔 Gone are the days when we could manufacture the parts for and assemble a Halifax bomber in 24 hours.

Here in Washington our Govenor has asked businesses to help with emergency preparations. A company in Bothel makes ventilators and gave plans to national companies and came along side of them to supervise and inspect. A textile company owner has his employees working 16 hour days making masks and hospital gowns. Restaurants are making meals for hospital workers, first responders, and elders. Volunteer home sewers are sewing masks for residents of skilled care facilities, elders, friends and families. People are 3D printing PPE masks and parts. Science Geeks are making videos teaching multiple ways to sterilize and reuse masks. Innovation is EVERY WHERE . We are all working together to fight this World War Three against COVID-19. All over the world people are working together to fight this virus. I am sending love and hugs from Washington state, Jeanne of In Loving Hands Counseling and ASMR. The crazy thing is, we *could*
There are UK companies already making N95 type fabric.
Once that's available (it already is)
Either 3D printed or injection moulded mask frames can be made by *any* company with that equipment.
      It's simple to reproduce moulds.
Then just ship to a common point for assembly.
With initiative and back to basics thinking there could have been millions made by now.
Even if it meant obtaining temporary licence from a company that does make them, (like 3M?) Would such a company refuse?

Or, the American family wanted high class, low cost products, but the American worker wanted high wages to build them?
That's become the downfall of first world manufacturing, *and* a major cause of pollution in those countries now making the goods.
      Answer?
      Buy less.
      Pay more.
Build it locally (with high quality, to last)

His suggestion is that a third of the population in the capital alreday are or have been infected. These are only calculations but he got it right as far as the peak of infection was two weeks ago in the sam region.

Regarding Sweden, an old song, "Kill the poor", by The Dead Kennedys comes to mind. "Efficiency and progress is ours once a more, now that we've got the Covid-19. It's nice and quick and clean and gets things done".
Check out the song, it's excellent with the hysterical singing by Jello Biafra. Sweden has all the time emphasized that the economy must be saved (no wonder since we have offloaded dept from the state to individuals). You go figure...

I hope it works! I question people in the US claiming "all open" is the way to go. Different demographics and no effective treatment/therapy. Herd immunity was used in the US for chicken pox I think? I'm not sure it would work at this particular time. Curious as well how our Swedish people are doing. Realistically it might be the quickest way to a vaccine like effect.

Taiwan and South Korea are both run by lawyers! Singapore is run by a brilliant mathematician and Hong Kong by a sociologist(!). New Zealand's leader has a degree in Public Relations(!) and Australia's in economics. Not a single scientist in the top six countries, unless you count mathematicians as scientists. What is wanted? I'm going to be honest it's incredibly frustrating right now living in the U.S. The United States IS NOT UNITED. Our states are acting as independent countries and our President is dividing us further. Here in Seattle while we have almost 13.000 cases.. We're also down to an 8.6% positivity rate and brought the infection around 1 if not below. But because we're in the "United" states" It's hard to get valid data because we're all lumped up into one mass. It's very strange living in the U.S. right now. Many of us feel like were on our own in terms of the states in which we live.

Hi, I've been watching you for a few weeks now. I was wondering if you are on the up and up about the US discussions about re-opening. I am very concerned about this. It sounds to me like folks are trying to save the economy and the bottom line at the price of human lives. It also seems like if we re-open too soon, everyone who has died from this virus so far will have been for nothing, and the time we spent shutting the country down already will have been for nothing because we'll have to do it again. I don't think the US is ANYWHERE near where they need to be with testing in order to even talk about this, unless of course there's some secret vaccine somewhere we don't know about. I'm really curious to hear your thoughts on this.

    • @realb1576
      @realb1576 4 года назад

Bryan Krepfle I agree with you for the most part. That being said, people have to work. If the entire economy collapses, it will be chaos. That is for any country. I feel non medical masks & social distancing should be mandatory to start. Then slowly open parks, construction, salons, etc.. Then limited seating or outdoor seating in restaurants. But enforce social distancing. We cannot continue to have no/limited income.
