Wow - just the DRUM ROOM DEMO section, few seconds into that and was reminded: 1. the sound of music today or 30 years ago, stuff is compressed - drums never sound raw like they do off the floor, and this box shows how you quickly can do that + pull the overall kit sound together rather quickly. 2. little does go a long way ~ which is annoying always to me 🤪 and 3. this is one of the best showings of the value of the Neve 2254 or diode dirty circuit adding character (?) ~ great video/demo... Best, Dayz
I have a wa73 but would like an eq and always thought heritage audio was superior. Was thinking about the ha73eq but now I see the ha81a.. feedback? Whats the big difference?
I’m thinking about getting the SSL Fusion & wanted to add the Successor as my Bus Comp. Do I even need both the Fusion & the Successor? If I only need one which one would you go with?
Hey DJ! Well those two units are quite different. They are both great but give you different workflows and tone. If you are just looking for compression I really like the Successor but it does have an obvious color to it. Which sounds good so if you like that it's great. It also has some nice side chain control features and the ability to do parallel compression with the mix knob. For me it does a lot of overhead compression and drum bus compression as that is where I really like it's overall effect. The Fusion is 4 units in one which make is very versatile and kind of an all-in-one mix bus chain. There is vintage drive, ultraviolet eq, compressor and stereo width control. I have only had the chance of using that unit a couple of times but it sounds great. It does not have the overall color of the Successor but that's not a bad thing either. I do have the UltraViolet EQ on my mix bus and LOVE IT. If you have a mix bus eq that you already like then the Successor might be a good choice to add to that. If you don't have anything yet and want options then the Fusion might be a good choice. Either way you can't really go wrong.
@@Ultimatestudiosinc Thank you so much, I do not have a Mix Bus EQ yet, I was think about getting the Heritage Audio Symph EQ Stereo Asymptotic Equalizer. Any advice or recommendations?
I have the ultraviolet EQ on most of my mixes and was really specifically wondering how that EQ would match up with a successor, since I’ve REALLY zeroed in on this comp. Thank you for solving my conundrum!! 😂
Doubt it. This is a very subjective conversation, but I have an entire analog mix buss. Fairchild, SSL G Comp, & some EQs, & they do sound good but digital summing still lacks the weight, depth, & stereo image in my opinion. I thought the same about just having a analog mixbuss until I purchased a summing mixer. It created exactly what I imagined.
But a buss compressor will have more of an effect than just having a summing mixer only. It's better to buy your mix buss 1st and then get a summing mixer.
@@LilEddMusic this is exactly what I was thinking. I mix in the box, adding most of the analog plugins and effects prior to coming out of the box. It cut down on my need for analog gear... But as I look deeper down this rabbit hole it looks like I may need to add outboard gear again making my studio hybrid once more. I'm trying to achieve a sound without having a huge outboard foot print. Lol
@@gunluv96 I totally feel you! I went analog crazy at one moment and had to realize less is more. Invest into a nice summing mixer, bus comp, and EQ. All you really need! I love Hybrid - plugins and analog go hand and hand!
I agree with a lot of what @lil Edd said. Tackling your mix bus first will give you the most immediate impact. However, there is something special that can happen with a nice summing mixer that mix bus effects alone won't give you and that's depth and width. At least in my experience. I remember the first time I summed my ITB mixes out to an Allen & Heath mixer (this was a looong time ago). The A&H is a fine mixer in my opinion even if it's not a classic console. Anyways....I was amazed at how just taking 5-6 stereo pairs out to the mixer opened up the mix. Having said that I would still probably go with Lil Edd's suggestion about mix bus first. If you have to make a choice. Good luck and thanks for watching!
hey c sharp vid man, would you say this could be the back end solution for a sterile 2 bus as an outboard on my da before cd burner or get an ms unit like the ssl fusion, best j
Thats a great is song. What is it. The singwr is great dynamically she dont even need a compressor thats a nice sounding bus comp. Maybe beyter than WA. Great sound samplijg with the compressor. Very easy to discern how it sounds
Awesome video. I had the Successor for over a month and returned it due to a plug/AC issue. Picked up a Tegeler Crème. Thinking I like the Successor better, but it can be very tricky to tell overall. Thoughts?
Thanks Geoffrey! I haven't had the chance to use the Tegeler so I can't make a direct comparison...sorry. I do LOVE the sound of the Successor. For me it just adds a nice tone even when not compressing. It's a very pleasing sound. It can also add some nice "weight" to the sound that I really like. I've been using it a lot on Piano (we have a Yamaha U1) and love how it can add sustain to make the piano sound like a much larger piano.
Sounds like it improves anything that goes into it, as long as you set it right.
Great demo mate!
Great video sir!
Thank you Jared!
Great vid.. Awfully lovely comp.. 😊

Yooooooo they just released a Neve 1081 elite series pre-amp eq. I got 2. Dont sleep on them. Awesome vid btw I will have a Successor soon.
so that means the warm audio ain't too far behind

very cool piece of gear ... 🐱👓
I was wondering what happened to this guy. Really dug Full On Drums.
Soooo, here's my question. With the bus comp does it eliminate the need for a summing mixer for people that do most of there stuff inside the buss?

Successor plus Fusion would actually be really cool.
Can you run mono buses or even track vocals with Successor?
Not really because there is a lot of noise when compress to tracking for me
Was the bass mono? So you can use this on mono sources too? Is there a link knob? Thanks
You just plug in usually L input come out L output for mono
