    I know it’s not transparent or even meant to be one. But I noticed the higher the ratio I have mines, the more color. So I keep the ratio very low, and compress lightly on my mixbus for dancehall, hip hop and jersey club. Then use the blend knob and it’s beautiful I love it so much. And now I combine it with my warm audio comp with the transformer off and punchy goodness indeed ❤🥊

      yess ... of course this seems another complete beast. i am tempted to spend the double amount... have no idea if the warm audio can be this flexible or what advantages it might have, for pumping. this beast has lot of color but for smooth mastering pump not sure you can handle it

      @roodsound 4 года назад

      SSL and Warm Buss are VCA SSL style. As he says in the end, this is a different electrical component (diode-bridge) that handles the signal processing. So they will sound a little different but I'm sure it would still be a good comparison.

    • @mixbustv

      They're very similar, the 609 is basically a later model/version of the 2254 which is what the successor is. 609 has the limiter which has very limited use (pun intended). They're very similar beside one being dual mono, I prefer the successor for the side chain options and it's a tad more colored. If you don't need dual mono, I'd get the successor. I sold my 609

    Hey David! Just got a Tegeler Crème after trying a Warm Audio Bus Comp, then Heritage Audio Successor. The Successor was great and I may decide on it unless I end up liking the Tegeler Crème better. At the moment I’d choose the Successor. I really like the power and feel it gives my mixes, but I’ve only just tried a couple of mixes on the Crème. Maybe it’s due to the Successor’s built in Parallel and other features...
    I’d really love to go all 500 Series, maybe a WesAudio NG500, or Serpent SB4001 or Elysian Xpressor. Then I can add an EQ later... Just need a 500 series Stereo Compressor that can match what the Successor does. Any suggestions very welcomed. Really appreciate your wisdom! Bless You.

    • @harrynak22
      @harrynak22 4 года назад +1

      Geoffrey Merrifield hi Geoffrey what made you choose the successor? Do you use a seperate eq with it? Crème looks good because it also has eq but if successor is a better compressor I’m not

    Amazing!!! But I have one question : 10 dB make up gain is pretty little compare to other comp , do you think is enough in almost all situation ? Thanks again

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  3 года назад

      Nah, more than enough, you need to understand how the gain stages are built in neve-like (real, like this one is) built, that explains why that range. But you will hardly have to compensate for more than 10db, if you do, just turn a fader up

    Brilliant review again and again making me way too greedy. My current setup is a drawmer 1974, drawmer 1978 and two comp-3a’s. I have budget and room for 1 more unit. I would like to have a nice mixbus setup. I am thinking about the Tegeler Creme because it also has the pultec style eq but maybe I’m better of with the successor using my drawmer 1974 with it? Can you please share your thoughts on this? Thanks!

    Excellent informative video as always David. I know this is a stereo bus compressor, but could this compressor also be used to track a vocal, guitar or bass on the way in before hitting an analogue to digital converter? Cheers

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  2 года назад

      Of course it can, altho' is very colored and it might not be the best choice for everything, it can suck up quite some top end especially on vocals. And it's also very grabby so 1.5 or 2 wouls be the highest ration I'd use

    Good job as usual. Saw your post on this a few weeks ago & was getting ready to message you to ask if you're doing a demo/review (I've been stalking this since it was announced at Namm 😂). There are hardly any examples of the unit and they're definitely not as versatile as this. Thank you

    I’m looking for one compressor to fit with a very small list of analog chain… so far symph eq and a pair of 542’s… would this fit as a compressor? My analog chain is simply setting to add what digital defiantly can’t get close to… would this work or would this be a bit too “perfect for very specific material” or would it be something I could use on everything?
    If not, do you have any suggestions in a similar price range, not above £2000 preferably?

    • @TigroGumi
      @TigroGumi 3 года назад

      Maybe doesn’t have to fit everything… as digital will make up for the rest… as I’d probably put, say, a SSL BUS COMPRESSOR plugin if I needed the way that reacts followed by this using barely any compression… less than 1db if at all… maybe simply for gain staging… I am asking this question to you knowing it’s more how you creatively use something than anything else… half answering the question for myself but then half not if you have a better suggestion

  • @emankayker8257
    @emankayker8257 3 года назад

    Sounds great, but you should match levels, because of course, louder sounds better... but, still, in the process of buying one... thanks for the demo

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  3 года назад

      Stepped output control doesn't allow perfect matching, and yet, peak level is almost always either matched or lower, it sounds louder because that's what s compressor does given the same peak level. If I take that away, then I'm not demoing the unit correctly. Trained ears know how to tell what's what

    Would you use it on 2bus in conjunction with 542s or too much cream?

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  3 года назад

      Way too much with the 542 (the tape part at least), but in general it would be few genres probably where I'd use it on the 2bus, amazing unit but not something I'd default to for 2bus, because it's behavior, you'd never compress more than a couple of db, that's why they're is the mix knob but I don't use parallel in the mix. Sits in either drums, guitars or snare for me

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  3 года назад +1

      No compressor will add width to your mix, with that said, they're very different, ssl type comps are more common for 2bus, successor is amazing but very very colored and it's behavior may or may not fit a given mix. I'd look into Dione for ssl type.
