I definitely agree that it's dangerous to glorify, and BMTH has ridden extremely close to that line of glorification, but they've mostly always been on the cautionary side of things expressing the real tangible struggle with addiction, depression, dehumanization, dissociation, pain, & anguish which proves to be more cathartic for most of us than glorifying. Also, spun this all day yesterday and saw the standard gamut of reactions/responses from people loving it to people hating it and decrying everything they did after xyz album and I gotta say while this current PosthardFuturePopCore era isn't for everyone, it and this track definitely fuck.
Oli Sykes is a great songwriter. I won’t take anything away from him at all. BUT Jordan Fish really is their secret weapon. He has that pop sensibility that just rounds everything out.
My favorite fun fact about this music video, the doctor at the beginning who he stabs in the eye that pops up later with an eye patch is Kevin from the American Pie movies, who I guess works on a bunch of stuff in the emo music world
This gives me strong Falling In Reverse vibes. The lyrics, the music video, the pop sound with the breakdown. The breakdown sounds very Falling In Reverse. BMTH and FIR are probably the two best bands right now in terms of genre versatility and music video production in my opinion. Like you said, BMTH can do anything and it sounds good. Every song is unique. Same goes for A Day Remember. 3 of my favorite bands, with ADTR being my top favorite.
Yeah I agree, BMTH and Falling In Reverse are prob the two most innovative bands right now. Would love to see a Collab but I know Ronnie and Oli were never on good terms.
@@JKernx yeah, I don’t know anything about the history between them but I don’t see it happening. I could be wrong but I don’t think FIR has collabed with anyone. @@Ffmt-ri3ti yeah i agree, collabs outside the genre are more fun. idk they might be cool with each other now, but they really smeared each others names back in the day
The big vibe I get from the case is “ hellogoodbye “ esque. Had a blast listening to this on the way home yesterday. Windows down, nicer weather. Really great jam.
I do recall a pretty solid acceptance of BMTH's Sempiternal on release. That's about the only one I felt like was accepted and loved right off of the bat.
Why does everyone always gloss over their first ep where they were a Norma Jean clone. These dudes managed to change or switch genera’s for what seems like every album. Super ahead of the curve.
After years of failed therapy and medications, I had a therapist in my late 20s teach me 1 of the most important lessons of my life. Normal and abnormal is subjective at the end of the day. The "tastemakers" that call the 9-5 life, family of 3 with a SO and a house on the hill, is normal for them, the daily life for them. Someone like myself, that has had a near death experience at 15yo along with various "ACE" situations along side them. My life as an adult being "abnormal" was actually normal for me. It was just chaos. Like comfort can be destructive, so can normal be chaotic. We always see chaotic life changes as abnormal because it's different from what we assume everyone else is dealing with. In reality, everyone is dealing with a form of chaos. The only difference is, they find a way to repair it and start over. We keep stacking our chaos. Once that ends, the "abnormal" mode of living, will turn into normal.
I took this to heart; showing corruption in the Corrupt-Mental-Health-Industry; dealing with that; after you trusted them to help you; fighting that system & during it all battling with your or Mental Health Dilemma!! (I do know what you mean)!
Ive taken every antidepressant under the sun too. But im bipolar 1 with psychotic features and a whole laundry list of mental illnesses. Ive had a lot of success with light therapy, honestly. And meds not normally used for mental illness. Anyways, i love that they are bringing this to light.
I love the variety in this track without it seeming gimmicky! Other comments are saying MCR but I think the chorus really reminds me of 2006 Escape the Fate, specifically the song When I Go Out, I Want to Go Out On A Chariot Of Fire. Awesome blend of multiple eras of alternative music in one song
When I was younger I loved "It never ends" bc I couldn't get over a girl but then I grew up and realized the song is about addiction, and the sing started hitting a lot harder once I really understood the lyrics
I have been having a really hard go at things lately and this song helped me a lot this morning. I was about to go to my stressful ass job and had a really great cathartic cry while listening to this.
My favourite thing about BMTH releasing banger after banger is the metalhead gatekeepers who hate on everything they do and complain about them not being Suicide Season or Count Your Blessings anymore. In 20 years BMTH will be considered one of the greatest rock bands to ever do it! For me, they already are
Bmth is one of the few bands that have changed so much that I can listen to their entire discography and love and appreciate all of it. Im a sucker for a good recovery story and I think they are one of those bands that will be a legacy band one day. If forever 21 isn't already selling bring me shirts they will in 10 years, they will rise up in the mainstream and eventually be on top 40 radio, that's how big of an impact I think they'll go down making in music history. They can do pretty much anything. I draw inspiration from every stage of their music career in my own music because they progress and get better
I saw them touring their debut EP in 2006, then Suicide Season in 2008 and I’d quite happily still go and see them now. Such an interesting band even if I don’t like every song they produce.
Its awesome that you talked about the med resistance thing mango. I had a break myself, which lead to psychosis, which lead to the ward. The meds did nothing positive, twas all side effects so i went off them and its great now. Its just nuts though, as you mature and say whats on your mind after the fact that becomes something to weigh in.
I just love this song and BMTH as a whole. Just so fun, and ever-changing. Somehow there’s always a BMTH song for where I’m at in life. No matter what era I’m listening to.
It’s funny that this is a big song by a big band because when we were kids (in England at least) we used to say Sugar Honey Ice Tea to like swear without swearing, like it’s a funny lame childhood memory haha
As a frame of reference Metallica was making St. Anger 20 years into their career and had been following trends for 10 years already. These guys don't miss!
Now, about that whole thing about finding out if Oli is circumcised… Given some context about his origins, with him being born in the UK in the 1980s (at least, I assume that’s when he was born), I’m going to assume that he isn’t.
Just saying that this was my only way of rewatching the music video, because the original got age-restricted. Goddamnit, it's only 2 weeks that i have to wait before i get 18. lol
Amo was my first exposure to BMTH. Great album; exactly the sound I was looking for. SHIT, Heavy Metal, In The Dark, Ouch, Nihilist Blues, etc. Everything else by them has been hit or miss for me. Kingslayer was great. LosT grew on me; catchy chorus. "Relatable lyrics w/o glorifying [mental health and addiction]" My mind immediately goes back to early Sabbath and Ozzy songs: Hand of Doom, Diary of a Madman, etc. Veil of Maya's new album has a song "Disco Kill Party" with similar hyper-pop vibes. Amorphis is a band that's been around 20 plus years, switched their sound multiple times and is possibly more popular than ever (I mean, they aren't mainstream, but for a former melodeath band they seem to be doing well).
Sempiteral I personally think is their best sound and I wish we got more of it. However, Thats The Spirit grew on me immediately. They're the best 2 BMTH albums for me
When I heard this for the first this morning I also got that hyperpop connection, and had to think about you right away, knowing you would like that. Gave me a ElyOtto vibe Dig the song! And as someone struggling with mental health, Oli does speak my truths.... Having also ADHD his lyrics make so much sense to me
Despite the slightly not-so-happy lyrics, this was a fun jam. Since BMTH are basically trendsetters and fortune tellers, it'll be interesting to see Architects/metalcore go pop-punkish in a couple of years.
I read that after a point, Oli took singing lessons and wanted to shift from just hardcore screaming and the fanbase didn't take tht well... It's a shame growth and doing things for passion is always frowned upon by most fans
Lots of friends saying "yeah it's already been done 20 years ago, nothing new". Well, unfortunately I still search for any new rock bands doing alternative rock with great vocals and thicc choruses. Now it's "pop punk this, pop punk that, sad boy there" with not so great vocals, programmed drums and cold digital sounds. Rock is dead because the great singers went to other music styles and because, as Finn said, people are still chasing the Sempiternal era but way crappier. So what if this new song sounds like MCR / FIR / Yellowcard ? I think that's great, and I wish more rock bands did this. For now, I'll have to listen to japanese rock bands that still compete with great singers, energic rock riffs and catchyness (Mrs. Green Apple, Mafumafu, LiSA...)
I started off hating BMTH then loved them from Suicide Season onwards. I feel like if they released any of their albums from 2015 onwards back when I first got into them I’d just be another d-bag like the kid on the ‘gram in a Black Dahlia tank, commenting that ‘they’ve sold out’ or ‘they’re shit now cause they’re not even heavy anymore’ luckily I feel like I’ve matured alongside them. I love their new stuff and I can’t wait to see them headline download next month. They’ve honestly earned it. Whatever your general preference you can’t deny that they haven’t sold out. They’re still BMTH and no matter how poppy or catchy any song they release sounds…. You still immediately know it’s BMTH. They haven’t sacrificed their unique authenticity at all.
So you wanna see Olli do a crawly down the hally, so that we can see his bally? And to also contribute something useful: You said the hyperpop breakdown is something you ask yourself why nobody else did this some time ago. But isn't this exactly what 100 gecs did on on 10.000 gecs? I listened to lost and immediately thought of mememe. This should not devalue the creativity in lost, it is still great and innovative. But the gecs generally deserve more attention for also being truly innovative.
Finn Mckenty is a man who you might agree with, may not. But regardless what you think? Essentially every opinion Finn has on BMTH is objectively correct
Dude, first great vid, I agree they could drop a country song at this point and I’d check it out. But seriously, thank you man. The way you explained that fight with your own brain helped me. I live with someone like that, have for many years now. It’s hard to relate with it to empathize, but the way you broke it down man…. Thanks
I grew up with BMTH in their infancy through my teens and twenties. Now that I'm in my 30s, I'm finding that I'm not really vibing with this band's current releases. I like the music but the lyrical subject matter is still wrapped into mental health spiral that I can't relate to anymore. I'm not bragging or anything but I'm generally happy and proud of what I've accomplished so far. I will always be a fan of BMTH and I've never been a shitter about them changing. I don't think this song is bad either. I just figured I'd comment from the perspective of a fan who's been with them since their first EP when I found them on MySpace back in their infancy, at the age of 15 or something.
Isn’t shadow Moses a song they song they wrote for a video game? (Kinda like ice nine kills is doing with horror movies) I know they did with parasite eve

II've followed BMTH since 2006/07 and they're one of the few bands that just seem to get better as their career progresses. I saw them at Download Festival this year and they were insane - they pretty much stole the show, which is impressive considering that they were sharing a bill with the likes of Slipknot and Metallica.
I'm not a fan of theirs but i see and can acknowledge that theyve been one step ahead. Amo was about 4 to 5 years ahead of its time, it sounds like a lot of the tiktok pop/rock crap thats coming out now like what MGK makes, and so does LosT

BUT
Jordan Fish really is their secret weapon. He has that pop sensibility that just rounds everything out.
100%
My favorite fun fact about this music video, the doctor at the beginning who he stabs in the eye that pops up later with an eye patch is Kevin from the American Pie movies, who I guess works on a bunch of stuff in the emo music world
It might sound like Black Veil Brides, My Chemical Romance, and Motley Crue!
I wonder if the music video is a huge reference to when Oli went to rehab? And honestly big brain here what they have done here
This gives me strong Falling In Reverse vibes.
And BMTH has plenty of great collabs with other artists. The Ed Sheeran one was awesome. I think when the artists are really different from each other it makes it better.
Really great jam.
amo was their best album overall. Any song on that album could be a single. They have become not just a great band but great songwriters. 🤟🔥
For those looking for more, Superlove has been doing this hyperpop/emo/metal sound for a couple albums now
Underscores, too!
God, BMTH has become such a fucking force that makes metal worth listening to.
Thank you for talking about mental health, finn
Its comforting to know other people are experiencing similar feelings/thoughts and it’s not just me
I took this to heart; showing corruption in the Corrupt-Mental-Health-Industry; dealing with that; after you trusted them to help you; fighting that system & during it all battling with your or Mental Health Dilemma!!
I'm getting throwbacks to Abandon All Ships.
I love all your takes bro. amo was amazing it was on repeat for months.
BMTH's next song will be Baroque lol
I love the variety in this track without it seeming gimmicky! Other comments are saying MCR but I think the chorus really reminds me of 2006 Escape the Fate, specifically the song When I Go Out, I Want to Go Out On A Chariot Of Fire. Awesome blend of multiple eras of alternative music in one song
8:24 And Avalanche is about his struggles with ADHDan dgetting a diagnosis, yup.
Chunk no captain chubk + alice gas fusion
BMTH never disappoints
When I was younger I loved "It never ends" bc I couldn't get over a girl but then I grew up and realized the song is about addiction, and the sing started hitting a lot harder once I really understood the lyrics
Big Hellogoodbye EP vibes in the verses. I think shimmy shimmy quarter turn for sure.
I have been having a really hard go at things lately and this song helped me a lot this morning. I was about to go to my stressful ass job and had a really great cathartic cry while listening to this.
BMTH can't miss, been a fan sense Count Your Blessings and I still love there new songs
The ad transition was pure fire
This sounds like a hardcore hellogoodbye
Its awesome that you talked about the med resistance thing mango. I had a break myself, which lead to psychosis, which lead to the ward. The meds did nothing positive, twas all side effects so i went off them and its great now. Its just nuts though, as you mature and say whats on your mind after the fact that becomes something to weigh in.
I love it when the lyrics are sang with so much emotion but the singer has the most expressionless face on 😂
I just love this song and BMTH as a whole.
BMTH leading the Easycore 2K23 revival!
Now, about that whole thing about finding out if Oli is circumcised…
Given some context about his origins, with him being born in the UK in the 1980s (at least, I assume that’s when he was born), I’m going to assume that he isn’t.
1.25x during the chorus has very much Helena vibes during the verse
I never knew I wanted neon pop BMTH before now
Sempiteral I personally think is their best sound and I wish we got more of it. However, Thats The Spirit grew on me immediately. They're the best 2 BMTH albums for me
Yes Finn! Great reference at the end there lol. You know Oli is a metal gear fan!
When I heard this for the first this morning I also got that hyperpop connection, and had to think about you right away, knowing you would like that. Gave me a ElyOtto vibe
Dig the song! And as someone struggling with mental health, Oli does speak my truths.... Having also ADHD his lyrics make so much sense to me
great reaction your analysis of mental health ,as someone that suffers anxiety, was so spot on ,nice dude
Despite the slightly not-so-happy lyrics, this was a fun jam. Since BMTH are basically trendsetters and fortune tellers, it'll be interesting to see Architects/metalcore go pop-punkish in a couple of years.
Still hearing Finn words in my head:"They were always ahead of the curve". Nothing more wiser was said till this day.
12:00 Paledusk did this a while ago in their song AO, just a heads up. Check them out, really on the forefront of the Japanease metal scene
I heard someone say: "if Yungblud and MCR had a kid together, it would be this song" and now I can't unhear it (:
I like it tbh
Great video, Finn! Love this song, can't wait to see BMTH in July with Fall Out Boy
2005 indie rock. Reminds me of Head Automatica a little. Maybe Minus The Bear.
getting late 90's / early 2000s poppunk vibes and i love it..
So you wanna see Olli do a crawly down the hally, so that we can see his bally?
And to also contribute something useful:
You said the hyperpop breakdown is something you ask yourself why nobody else did this some time ago. But isn't this exactly what 100 gecs did on on 10.000 gecs? I listened to lost and immediately thought of mememe.
This should not devalue the creativity in lost, it is still great and innovative. But the gecs generally deserve more attention for also being truly innovative.
That Andy biersack drop got me
Finn Mckenty is a man who you might agree with, may not.
Thanks
best song of the year so far for me, can't wait to see it live in june.
I will say the video feels very Falling In Reverse inspired, between the effects, violence, and cinematics.
Isn’t shadow Moses a song they song they wrote for a video game? (Kinda like ice nine kills is doing with horror movies) I know they did with parasite eve
My advice for anyone living in the Pacific Northwest and is struggling with depression, try taking vitamin D twice a day. This helped me a lot when I was in my early 20’s living in the tongass rainforest.
LMAO at "there's nothing worse than... giiiirrrrrz" 😂😂😂😂😂
Sounds like a mix of New found glory and mcr very mid 2000s vibe with this song
First off- my deepest apologies for not knowing this reference- but can anyone please clue me into the "HERE'S THE THING" clip? I've searched all the Googles for award show speeches, but my powers are not strong with this one...
I think the biggest thing is when you start thinking man I wonder what it would be like to not have mental health issues like x or y, but it's more like people don't know what anyone else is going through.
I absolutely love this song man. BMTH continues to evolve as a band, their just great musicians.
