- What would you do if you lost everything? Ammar decides to live on the streets of LA for 48 hours in hopes gain a better appreciation for the simple things that he takes for granted in life.
All proceeds from this video will go to www.safeplaceforyouth.org to provide care and support to youth experiencing homelessness.
* Ammar was by no means trying to simulate homelessness or pretend like he knows what being homeless feels like, he was just trying to deprive himself of everything and see how he'd handle it.

Can we appreciate how many times he put his camera on the floor to record himself walking and then have to walk back to it just for the cinematics...
yea ik like at 5:40
*15:40
Lol noticed that too
I was thinking the same thing each time
Joe Peacock might as well when you got nothing else to do for 48 hours respect lol
That 70 min walk to the airport probably took 130 min cuz of those cinematic shots
norm that’s what i was thinking I swear 😂😂😂
I was thinking that 😂
that’s what i was thinking
@@ILikeMops1 the ones where he was walking with the same clothes? Nah.....
+ 2 hours later he arrived XD
I offer a tip:
Sleep during the day, because it is warmer, and spend the night walking, because that is how you warm your body.
Then you need to change your sleep routine ,not easy in 2 days?
Also safer, bad for the body lol
Yes but that defeats the purpose of truly feeling what some people feel everyday
some homeless people don't have the energy to just walk all night, because they probably didn't have enough to eat during the day.
that's smart
As someone who has experienced life on the streets I can say that there is nothing as terrifying as not having a place to go at night. Just imagine how much worse it would be if he didn't know it would be over in 48 hours.
It truly gets cold to round midnite
Where im from
Wow
What city? One time in Detroit I gave my drink and a few bucks to a hobo I saw. He needed it more than me.
Yes, and the fact that he doesn't look homeless allowed him to sleep in the comfort of the airport. Eventually, the security guards and staff wouldn't allow that. It's so very sad. I live in an area where there are a lot of homeless people. Some of them are strung out but a great deal more lost their job and was unable to make ends meet. When you have nobody to catch you, you end up on the pavement.
All that walking back and forth to put down and pick up the camera must have been exhausting
Yeah, thought about it too.. But I'm glad he's safe
Well in his defense he had nothing else to do so 🤷🏻♂️
i mean its still a business... he gained nothing from it though in the 48 hours...so i'd say it's acceptable
Wait from WEHO to SM to Venice to LAX. Wow how many miles walking is that?
That's all I could think about while watching this
Everytime he walks aways from the camera for a shot I just think that he has to walk back and get his camera 😂
Great video though, really inspirational ❤️
Yea its so unsatisfaying
Me too, it looks kinda dumb :P
Ha I haven't even thought about that! 😂
Welcome to B-Roll! Imagine someone like Les Stroud, he would climb a cliff face and leave the camera behind that he had to go back down to get, then go back up to finish his hike lol.
You my friend are very intelligent
My mind=blown
I have been fortunate enough to not experience homelessness but having been very very poor, I’ll say here are some tips for when you have no money for food or need to be warm:
1. Find the churches-they usually have food pantries and sometimes free meals, especially the churches around a college campus.
2. Nah no worries abt pride or eating others food or digging in dumpsters BUT I’ll say look at the dumpsters next to fast food places: little caesars often throws away pizzas at the end of the night, subway sometimes throws away their bread in the dumpers in a bag, and Starbucks throws away anything expired every night and sometimes they’ll give you what’s expired. Kroger/grocery stores throw away expired goods and most of it (obviously no meats or the deli) is still edible.
3. Sleeping in the cold: if there are free newspapers or magazines, crumple it up and put it into your clothes-it’ll work as insulation and help keep you warm! Or if you find newspapers that coffee shops throw away every day Bc they get the new ones, you can sometimes find them in the trash!
If y’all ever do this again, or if anyone reads the comments, I hope it helps!
As someone who is currently homeless in LA, you never have to go hungry. There are resources everywhere for food. If this challenge were to have gone on longer, I would have criticized the lack of effort for looking for resources. I understand that the purpose of the video, however, was not what it's like being homeless, but what it's like to lose everything and not to take it for granted. Absolutely love this challenge and thank you for helping bring some awareness.
Hey man, can you name some food resources? (doesn't have to be specific. I just want to get an idea)
How tf are u homeless and u have a phonr and ur profile pic is in a house? Maybe look for jobs instead of youtube??

It would suck, but it would serve as another valuable lesson. One that teaches the importance of experiencing something purely for yourself, without the need to share that experience with anyone but yourself.

What I did during my time homeless, was sleep on the roofs of Wal-Mart or other big box stores. They have condensers that put out heat.
@chewy xx normally there is a ladder, if theres a ladder, there's gonna be a guard on it. If you climb on the side if the ladder (about enough space for two hands) the guard holders are steady enough and spaced out adequately to climb up.
@@rayconifer3151 did you ever get in trouble with the security guards or cops while you were out there climbing and sleeping on roofs?
@@Hopinmypony no, as long as you stay down, and only go up at nighy, the security doesn't check the roof
@@rayconifer3151 wait why climb the ladder guard and not the ladder
@@regandehaven4705 the ladder guard's whole purpose is to make it impossible to climb the actual ladder, so you wouldn't be able to. If you google a picture of it, I think that would be the most helpful :)
i live in Vancouver, we have the highest rate of homelessness in all of Canada. other provinces send their homeless to us because we are not as cold as the rest of the country during the winters. it’s so sad seeing thousands of people on East Hastings when i’m driving to work/school.
This video really made me check my privilege. I didn’t know how lucky I am to have my friends and family to protect me, I really take it for granted. The world turned their backs on these people, they’re left alone on the streets.
i'm from toronto & i didn't know that omg :( we have a lot of homeless people downtown as well

I was homeless for 4 months when I was 18. It's not a great place to be mentally. I was fortunate enough to have an old car to sleep in, and live in California so the weather wasn't so terrible. (now I live in Illinois, so I know it could've been wayyy worse lol) I eventually had a friend allow me to sleep on their couch after they found out I was homeless, and with the help from their family I was able to get a good paying job and get back on my feet. I think this video was really cool and it's a great lesson to learn that everything in life could be gone in an instant. Cherish the people you have and the things you have. Remember that your next action could be the last thing you're remembered by. Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it.
Wow.
God bless man
Prayers for you man, even though your happy and healthy now, I am deeply saddened to hear this from you and just anyone in general. It’s a tough experience as far as I have heard, and I can only imagine your hardships. I’m glad you overcame that bump in your life and I only hope that you thrive as a person and never have to experience that again🙏🏽

POLITIC RAP they have low energy as well
The thing is, they sleep during the day because the police don't let them sleep at night. It's like they're not allowed to exist! Sleep deprivation is actually a form of torture, in the literal sense. It was and is used by the CIA to interrogate suspects, as well as train operatives. And if it's prolonged, like it is when you're homeless on the streets, it will literally cause mental illness. Being homeless for long periods of time can actually cause suicidal depression. I know this personally to be true, not just from statistics homeless suicides.
No. They sleep alot during the days because it's more safe than during the night... Is that so hard to understand?

I always used to take my mom and the work she does for me for granted but now I don't. So about a month and a half ago my grandpa died and since then my mom is staying in my village with my grandma to make her feel better. I am Fifteen and I'm taking care of everything alone like food, home, money, studies, washing my clothes and now I know how much hard work my mom does for me and I don't even recognize that...
Good for you, brother
God bless you.
I found so much humbleness from being homeless. I had a vehicle but alot of times just sitting in it or walking because I had no money. I felt morally better stealing from a corporation for food instead of asking people for help. The alone time and the lets figure it out mode you get into grows the crap out of you. Eventually I was able to get a fitness membership for $20 a month and that was my showers and massage bed time! This was a great journey you went on, very humbling

Never ever take what you have for granted. Because having lived the other side of my life, I can tell you life gets extremely hard and extremely cruel. I am soon to be homeless AGAIN. I had to sleep outside with my 1 year old son. a little over a year later, I am about to have no choice but to do it again. Yes I know about every single place that helps in the area. Even the shelter is not a sure thing every day. And there is no other option. It's embarrassing and heart breaking to have to sleep outside with your young child because the shelter felt it was your turn to have no place to go. I have put up a go fund me as well as that facebook fundraiser. I am only asking for 2 or 3 hundred just to keep my phone on through the winter (I need it to call the shelter every morning because that's what you HAVE TO do in order to find out by noon whether or not you get to stay the night) .Of course, I get nothing. I've had to stand outside stores to ask for anything they could spare so I could get bus fair, diapers, toilet paper (still in my place, I'm out the 30th of Nov.) or whatever else I need. And all of this because my spouse did drugs and ended up in Prison for 18 months. I've been looking for work but nobody wants to hire you when you have been a stay at home mom or homeless for almost 20 years. Everyone tells me "it's going to get better"! LMAO! I have a dead husband. Homeless with our daughter after he died because I have no friends or family. Luckily, mom mom (who can't help me other than take care of my girls) is taking care of my girls. That's the only help I've had other than the couple of dollars strangers give me when I ask them for help. I even cary around the eviction notice for people who don't believe me. AndI'm lucky my electric was not turned off. Panhandled for that too.

I was technically homeless two separate nights while travelling through Europe. Just the fact that you *know* you're homeless is enough to instill that fear/uncertainty/anxiety even though no one else has any idea.

Aww you already messed up the first day.
I was homeless when I was a teenager before I hit 18, woulda been over 20 years ago now.
First thing you gotta do is find another homeless dude.
They're gonna know where the resources are like places for food, Clothes, showers, schedules of services and all that.
Or guess now a days hit a library, use the computer n start doing some homework.
Start figuring shit out.
The outside sleeping is def a factor especially if unable to get in a shelter of any sort.
Tbh you never really sleep, it's more sort of nap.
No matter where you puck your gonna feel awkward and never at ease.
The boredom is prob the worst factor tbh. Like shit you've never had so much time to waste w absolutely nothing to do.
Ironically you will still end up in a weird routine at some point.
The hardest part is always feeling n knowing your screwed n homeless, but trying to not make it obvious to others.
You also don't wanna become complacent w your situation.
You will eventually meet people in various situations and circumstance.
Which will form a certain degree of "normal", and social structure.
Which is where the complacency can become a factor mostly due to familiarity and mentally breaking down over time.
Them they're is also the stigma as well right. People who do find out from seeing you aroun all the time just killing time.
Always assume it's a drug issue not a situational problem.
So you may be treated as a junkie even though that may not at all accurate.
Not to mention a lot of the people you will encountr who are trying to help, will in fact be extremely condescending.
Which in some degree makes it worse in away
Its def a weird scenario to be in, tbh I've actually recommended it to buddies that wanna get into social work amd work w the homeless, or mental health/addiction.
Y'know leave everything but your ID, maybe ot even at home spend 2 weeks going through the system.
So they see the shelters first hand, how the staff treats you first hand.
How they homeless interact w each other, amd how shit actually works first hand.
As well as be able to better differentiate and assess what it is they're seeing and dealing w in their job.
IMO it should.almost be extra credit in college for anybody who wants to.get into that line of work. Almost like a secret shopper of sorts.
No help, no.calls to family, no money, no credit, no friends, no phone amd you can't tell the homeless.
You have to actually do it.
Lucky you live in a warm place. I'm Canadian, so it changes w the season.
So depending on the state n time of year. Your obstacles and experience will vary drastically
he can't speak or ask for help to other people.
He’s not allowed to do most of the stuff you talked about unfortunately
How are you now?

SlicedMango 17 Says the guy living with his parents :)
Now that's seeking discomfort 👏👍🏾
props for getting all the shots you did. I think most viewers dont really consider the thought, effort, and time put in to just documenting this.. And you did great for being solo!
Thanks for the video mate, this one is move me from comfort zone a lot ! again thanks !
the cinematics and editing on this video are insane.
James Charles will need tips on how to do this
BoredWhistle 😂
Yikes
lol.true
BoredWhistle omg noooo💀💀💀
BoredWhistle James Charles should do this video sort of video, or even better, do it off camera and tell people he did it on the community thing on RUclips saying he didn’t do it for the view but to get a better prospective in life.
Incredible - so great that you did this.
I'm glad to see you doing a video like this. I have lost everything a couple of times in life. I' was homeless and in 2005 and in 2018 I lost my home and everything I owned in the Campfire near Paradise CA. I almost became homeless again after that event a couple of times.
If I had not had family or friends, I don't believe I would have made it through. Many others lost everything and have still not made it back home after the fire.
It only takes one major life event for you to lose everything and there are not a lot of programs to help you get back on your feet. I was lucky to have ties and, eventually, money.
I feel bad for all the “ I have to run back and get my camera shots “😂
Casey nienstat?
👁️👄👁️
Are just gonna ignore the awesome editing/ editors that made all of this?!
matteo cagliero the editing really wasn’t anything special. All the shots he thought to take were what made this a good video
matteo cagliero just a few guys with a lot of skill :)
@@vlKenzo I was wondering if he had a camera guy follow him or did it the Casey Neistat way by himself.
From other videos of Yes Theory that I’ve seen it’s Ammars younger brother, TD that edits their videos x
@EMILY GALLAGHER matt's younger brother
Great job Anmar. Took a lot of courage and you made it through!
You guyz were really great
May god bless you all of us
Thanks alot
Anmar: This is the longest I’ve spent not talking to people voluntarily
Me: Hold my social anxiety
Huhwhat same
Bruh don’t copy comments
Huhwhat if he held your social anxiety, would that mean you wouldn’t be as anxious??
Wow you’re so quirky
Haha i was like are u sureee
When ammar says Alhamdulillah, i cried. I realize how ungrateful i have been. Thank you guys for always inspiring me!!❤❤
aisha salsabilla when did he say Alhamdulilah? 😊
@@sarabadr3003 12:36 xx
Terri Anne thank youuuu 💕
Taught me a lesson as usual. Thank you YES fam!❤️
This is making me realize everything I take for granted. Thank you. 😌
Hey after this challenge make sure you get checked by a doctor just Incase there was something in the food or water bottle you got from the trash
Ya that’s what Homeless people do after being 2 days in streets
Big chungus the challenge was 2 days only. He doesn’t have to not look after his safety.
He's totally fine. The water is no big deal and the chicken was among the top items (thus the most recent) and those trash cans get cleaned out every 8 or so hours. It's highly improbable he would catch something other than a cold or a mild case of the flu at worst
wsxrfvyhnukpqazedctgbujmol A he said just in case
You would have to have a really weak stomach to get sick from that.
Sometimes I think about how even more dangerous these "experiments" would be if it were a girl doing them
i mean, yes it is dangerous for homeless women. dont need an experiment to tell you that. id say that why they need to be armed for protection, but mosttttt homeless people are druggies or mentally not there and high risk of misuse.
Why sometimes? Theres plenty of homeless girl out there already but you know, it wasnt cinematically shot 24/7
Tamara Di Marco exactly my idea
Tamara Di Marco did you really have to bring gender into this video? 🤦🏽♂️
@KatAmentBranson same! I'm only 17 and I've already being harassed (even though it was nothing that serious, but still) by literally doing nothing, just everyday life. So imagine something like this. Honestly seing a friend of them who is a girl doing something like this and succeeding would be so nice!
hands down my favorite video of yours
what a powerful message
This was extremely brave. You're amazing Ammar
You shoulda went into Whole Foods and get some samples.
Edit: omg! Thanks for all the likes! Shoutout to my parents for raising me! Shoutout for my teachers for teaching me how to write! I luv you ‘Merica! I love everyone! I’m single and ready to mingle! Praise god!
Quinn Brennan I think that was the whole point though, to try and not interact with people so he could feel what it would be like to be completely alone
Marcus_medina well he wouldnt be interacting with people, u can literally just grab a bite
Oliver Beck
He would be getting help.
Why? He bought everything he ate in the video and just pretended it was “trash” lmao
This dude is known for faking “experiences”
@@mrpuzzle2634 proof
doesnt talk to people for an hour and a half - gets depressed. ive been doing that for 12 years
What a soyboy innit
Pathetic, i've doing it for 17 years
Omg. So sorry to hear that. You're the Best
Guys plezzz. I'm a rock. Imagine how long I haven't talked to people. You guys have no idea.
@@UnKnOvvNPeRsOnA you sound like a brony or a furry
I definitely like the idea of depriving yourself from everything. Seems you got a good taste for what it's like to be hungry, lonely, scared, bored, and tired. One thing to make the challenge more difficult would be to change into clothes homeless people would wear. This might restrict your access even further and make the experience that much more impactful. Great video. Cheers.
Sleeping on a beach sounds romantic but you are next to an ocean of open water and vulnerable to the elements.
Finally. An old school yestheory video😂
Deep talk incoming
Something I take for granted is my parents. Honestly I don’t respect them as much and the day they’re gone I’m going to miss them more then I could imagine. I need to take step by step to becoming more grateful for what they do for me
Elitefrm 3 same
They chose to do it. You didn’t just appear out of no where. You owe them nothing
@@MustObeyTheRules He owes them respect and gratitude.
Elitefrm 3 no you don’t owe parents who decided create you. They decided knowing full well they were creating a need machine.
@@MustObeyTheRules Just because they made a decision to have a child doesn't mean the child shouldn't respect them lol. Obviously respect doesn't mean much to you so I'll leave this dialogue right here.
Nice video! Shows us how hard it actually is to be homeless thats for sure. Keep it up!
It’s a great message to the youth and me. When we hangout with friends while we eat we left some but after watching this we all made a promise that we don’t waste if we had more food we will give it to a homeless person. It’s a heart touching video 🙏❤️
amar: i want to make sure i`m safe
amar: walks past CAUTION tape
Im 16 and I've just moved in to my oan flat in Bordeaux France, my parents live in the UAE and living independently has made me appreciate food so much more.
I miss my mothers meals she made every dinner.
Don't they pay for you to live there?
@@hv.b.r he's talking about hand cooked meals of his mom. Not being homeless. Can you read?
je comprend totalement, je mange tellement mal depuis que je vis seule!
:( I wish I could help u
damn nigga u rich
Honestly, after watching all your videos, this one was the best as I learned the most important lesson of life which is to be grateful for everything!
this is for sure the worst video I have watched on this channel, really disingenuous challenge, glad you got something positive out of it, the idea is genuine, the attempt wasn't.
You guys never fail to inspire me!!
