VERY IMFORMATIONAL THANKS!!!
Hello. great, i'm just thinking of buying the same black lion device for my KT2A. I'll be waiting for your sound check video. before and after. I hope you can do it. Regards.
Check out the video that I posted before this one. You’ll find audio clips that you can download
Did you ever try changing the tubes in this unit too?
No, I haven’t
Great video thanks 👍
So…
Did you find that the new opto cell improved the sound (and the response) of the KT?
My guess is that you decided on doing the mod, because you weren’t all that crazy about the way the KT sounded with its stock Opto cell…
One of the main complaints I’ve heard about the KT-2A, is that they haven’t achieved the two-stage release times that the original Teletronix LA2A’s are so well known for and that contribute so much to the way they work and sound.
On an actual LA2A, there are two stages of release; the initial/first release time is around 60 ms, with the second release stage being anywhere between 1-15 seconds (this second stage release time is program dependent, so the times can vary), but it’s this dual stage release time that really does contribute to the “classic” sound of LA2A’s.
Because the Opto cell is the primary circuit for the way an LA2A works, its not only controlling the voltage of signal and the amount of gain reduction…it’s also controlling both the release times as well…so, if the KT’s stock Opto cell isn’t doing what it’s “supposed” to do in any of the multiple ways that it needs to - or even not doing it in just one way - then the sound will definitely be affected.
Anyhooo…
Just curious if you heard a noticeable improvement after you installed the new T4B cell.
Good video, BTW; you explained the installation of the mod in a simple to understand, very concise way.
🙏
I was not really a fan of the Opto cell upgrade. I do believe it sounded better but in order to get it to compress the signal, I had to turn the gain reduction knob almost completely up. Not sure if the problem was just with my unit or what.
Good stuff!
How hard are you suppose to pull on the old Opto Cell? Mine won't budge at all. Mine is a newer model mind, wonder if thry glue 'em in now.
It shouldn’t be too hard but I did have to wiggle mine a bit. Hopefully they didn’t get petty and start gluing them in there. 🤦🏽♂️
@@CLEANMUDVIDEOS Yeah I am wiggling it quite a bit but it doesn't seem to have much side to side play, I can hear the pins moving but I am seriously thinking the middle plastic bit is glued to the board. As you say be petty of them but tried nearly for an hour wiggling and pulling and nothing. A warning if you buy these new now and want to swap out the cell.
It’s a sound improve?
If it’s complicated
I’m not messing with it.
Lol meaning on these upgrades. Not really interested in taking a chance to damage my equipment 😂

It”s brilliant.
It will prevent me from breaking anymore stuff. It looked so easy to do that upgrade on the RUclips video.
👍
