In many ways, this is more impressive than just strapping a rocket on a sled. This is an actual car-like vehicle. As opposed to a missile with wheels and a cockpit slapped on to it. ✌️
Its great to see wheel driven cars running at these speeds, using either piston jet. I have fallen out of love with the unlimited jet class as it seems too close to flying and doesn't pose the same technical challenges as the wheel driven. There is also the appeal that these people just love vehicles working out of home garages and hot rodding. That "it's open to anyone" carries weight. Don Vesco was in the shadows being a nearly man all through out his life and just a few years before his death due to cancer he got the wheel driven record in "the turbinator"
Top kek, I have seen 1500 HP Civics that would shit all over whatever the hell you drive. Get educated... Street legal vs land speed record vehicles are miles apart, literally
Dude my Civic could beat that. I just put a new cold air intake on it that adds 75 hp and 10 stickers on the fenders which add like 10hp each minimum. Don’t play.
And that , folks, is REAL LAND Speed racing. Not a rocket on a rollerskate. Was the salt a little soft? I see the rooster tail most of the course. That car had just completed a run , south bound in October 1997, when I arrived, also south bound, in the Ed Rannberg Lighting Rod electric streamliner. We set a 215mph FIA record that day on fork lift motors and lead batteries. First electric car FIA over 200mph. In order to save time during the 1 hour turn around, I turned the car off at the flying kilometer exit and coasted to the 10 mile mark and braked, no chute, I turned the car back on and made a u turn and back to the starting line. .
at some point you're no longer a car, you're just a rocket skimming the ground. Even at the point we are at now a great deal of the force require is used up in downforce which is silly. You might as well put little wings on the thing and take off.@@jasonbourne1596
Counts kustoms (Ryan) out of Las Vegas did a bad ass paint job🤙 . i wish that i could get my car painted by him but i cant afford it,hard times right now.😞😢
As an AMT of 40 + years making a vehicle go 500 mph is not so easy to do, but keeping in on the planet is much more Difficult to accomplish! Well done 👍 Cheer's.
It's not a piston engine. It's a gas turbine Lycoming T55-L-712 engine that turns all 4 wheels with 5,000 horsepower. This is now the fastest wheel driven car in the world at an average speed of almost 500 miles per hour. As a note, Mickey Thompson's son became the fastest piston engine wheel driven car in late 2018 with his father's old and famous Challenger II car at over 450 miles per hour.
Congrat's Team Vesco! This is such a huge record. Calvin, your uncle helped me out when I was a very young motocrosser for several years I wore the Veso Yamaha jersey with pride. I have nothing but great memories and respect for him and the entire Vesco family always a class act and nobody does a better job of thinking and building outside of the box. The Vesco name and Bonneville are one, PERIOD!!
Now this is a real car. One driven through its wheels, even though it probably has a bit of residual thrust helping it. The jet propelled land speed record "cars" are frauds.
"The jet propelled land speed record "cars" are frauds." No they aren't, getting something on wheels to go 600-700 mph regardless of being jet or wheel powered takes more balls than you would ever dream of having.
They aren't frauds, they are a different class. Did you know that there is also a class for steam cars? They don't go as fast as the ICE cars, but that doesn't make the ICE cars "frauds". I will say that I give more respect to the guys doing with driven wheels, but that's more a question of relative amount - I have not the resources, talent or courage to compete in any of the classes.

That's amazing!! Somewhere there's a Honda owner watching this in his car dying to race it
Top kek, I have seen 1500 HP Civics that would shit all over whatever the hell you drive. Get educated... Street legal vs land speed record vehicles are miles apart, literally
I get it was a joke, but it was a shit one
Aric Mcpherson still a shitty Honda 🤣 put that money towards a cool car at least lmao

Amazing work. I met Nick once he is a great guy. I believe in you guys

That turbine sounds magical, what an awesome build. Congrats on the accomplishment 👏🙌👍
First time you heard a jet engine, huh? Travel to an airport you can listen to them 24/7.
Congrats!!! Awesome!!!!
Bump the speed up to 2x and there you have it, first 1000 mph car....
never going to happen wheel driven
@@danielbrowniel never say never.

Wow math.
Just saw this supersonic car today on your driveway! I took some pictures. Love it!
Congrats team! Mr. Vesco, the owner, was also the crew chief, he builds very fast cars.
Great Rotary Speed dial on the video.
Wow. Awesome video of this amazing feat! Thanks so much for posting it👏🏻
BAD Arse!!! Amazing, blazing speed and power!
Yeah VTEC VTEC kicked in around 200 miles an hour pulling a half G up to 450 I wonder if they're allowed to have traction control
No.
810 km/h congratulations
So awesome!!
Boring and slow compared to the record holder 10 years before this.
1:40 wow such speed is almost incomprehensible to the human mind
I used to do some heli-arc for Don Vesco on his creations.
Was that one chute I saw fail and get torn off at 2:16...??!! That would have made slowing down a bit longer !!
This vehicle ON LAND, got up to the CRUSING SPEED!! of a passenger jet!
Passenger jets are more 550mph to 600mph. They do 500 Knots
I remember the whole Don Vesco era.
That's so fucking cool. Count customs brought me here glad you hit your goal

🤩🇺🇸👍⚖️👁️👁️⚖️👍 He'll be back!🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Will this fit in my Honda?
Buckaroo Banzai did it in a Ford Ranger.

Yes its fast, very well builded, but Don Vesco is another level, Turbinator is a leggend.
That mountain at the end😬
Great 👍👍👍
IN UTAH! SALT FLATS!
Hats off to you lads. lets see if you guys can hit 600 mph.
They can go even faster !!!!!
Cool .
They have v8 ls one that goes 466
Why not use Boeing 777 engine?
'cus that's not a turboshaft. The point is to drive the wheels. Maybe one of the big GE aero-derived industrial engines would work.
This is star wars
A lot of faith in tires
What are the engine and power specs?

Thrust ssc anyone??
Did someone miss the part about WHEEL DRIVEN land speed record?
P.S. Those jet powered jobs were boring, 40 years ago....
Where is the E39 M5 Camera Filming Car!?
0.5G at 400 jesus
Bit fast innit
Kurang banter
This is the shimmering salt flats from wow right?
My civic can do this 😅
Now we need to see a two-way average of over 500
2:21 even that mountain have the shape of an hot rod ( definitely the best place for that type of competition )
How lmao
WTF?????
Wow! Love the paint art! Nice work Vesco and Ryan/Count!

The vibrations are significant to the point where it's almost impossible to see or recognize anything.
CHUCK YEAGER FLØY EN SÅNN UNDER KRIGEN, 600 KM/T😳👏
Question: How old is the Turbinator chassis? I understand it has had many different engines.
I wonder if the drivers mind has become so accustomed to this speed that it doesn’t seem that fast.🤷🏻♂️
looks like a good daily driver
folks that is HAULING ASS... and its wheel driven..
Average speed and exit speeds two different things
This video led me on a journey to get a Turbinator t-shirt. It's one of the coolest shirts in my collection.should have bought two.
500mph?
Voices of Willie Bolke, cheif timer and Seldom Seen Slim on the radio commentary.
I much rather see the Golden Arrow & the Napier Railton tbh, that era was so intriguing to me.
Go baby go!!!!!!!
И что теперь? Это поможет в борьбе с раком? Прокормит голодающие народы или прекратит очередную войну? Миллионы долларов в никуда.......

500 mph and wheel driven is good enough for anyone that knows their head from their ass anyways.
