the man who founded Warped Tour, Kevin Lyman!!
Kevin tells Stryker about his life pre Warped Tour which included working Lollapalooza.
Kevin worked as the artists liaison and stage manager among many of the hats he wore while working Lolla.
Kevin tells Stryker about starting Warped Tour in 1995 and being totally broke after the tour.
The price of tickets for the festival was $15.00!
Kevin talks about talking to Fat Mike from NOFX and Fletcher from Pennywise to lock in their two bands for year two of Warped Tour.
Kevin tells Stryker how Calvin Klein was almost the title sponsor before Vans became the main sponsor.
Kevin tells Stryker how during the Warped Tour, Sugar Ray started selling 70,000 copies a week of their album Floored.
Kevin and Mark McGrath had a chat about not only staying on the tour but continuing to play on the small stage even though the band was exploding with popularity.
Kevin and Stryker chat about why Warped Tour took place outside and a daytime festival.
He always wanted to pay homage to the past while moving forward.
The bands that Kevin Lyman thought were great from day one were My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and AFI.
Kevin talks about how Simple Plan played Warped 17 times while Less Than Jake played the festival the most!
Kevin tells Stryker that 2017 was the year things on the Warped Tour went wrong, from the weather being terrible to the "youtube culture" to getting death threats on twitter based on some bands that were booked to play or bands that were not thrown off the tour.
Kevin talks about losing sleep over the threats made to him and his family.
In 2018, USC asked Kevin to teach, he's a full time professor teaching 5 classes!
Kevin says "You can do good, and do good business!"
When it comes to bands.....he says we need bands to stand for something!
Kevin tells Stryker that he is on the board of the unopened Punk Rock Museum. Kevin tell Stryker exclusively that the museum in Vegas will open October 21st, the night before the "When We Were Young" festival kicks off.
Kevin talks about Katy Perry being on Warped Tour and how New Radicals were a band that he liked that never got huge.
He also was confused why G eazy does not mention his Warped Tour days. Kevin loves Yungblud!
Kevin talks about Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit as well.
Kevin Lyman is full of so much knowledge and is such a nice and generous dude.

This is incredible. I was a later warped tour kid, 2005-2009. But grew up with the bands of the OG Warped tour. This is just so fascinating.
There was some good shit in the later warped tour years. I wished I would have been able to go then and see Dance Gavin Dance.
I actually went to the 2017 Warped Tour. That line-up was stacked. It is one of my favorite concert experiences. I didn't know all the behind the scenes drama that went on that year. Damn shame. That year kicked ass.
Bring Warped Tour back. We need it back.
I never missed one from 2000-2018.. My summers were Ozzfest and Vans Warped Tour.. 36 years old now and it was the last of my youth… Much love, the music and the memories will stay with me forever

Awesome video! I was fortunate enough to attend Warped during the 2001-2005 stretch as a teen/young adult. Now those were by far the golden lineup years . Strung Out, Lagwagon, Bad Religion, No Use, gah. Memories.

In Cleveland, in 1997, Limp pretty much got boo’d off the stage because everybody in the crowd wanted Social D, who was on that stage after Limp. It was hilarious listening to Lyman sort of tip toe around the fact that crowds didn’t take well to Limp in ‘97.
I remember them playing in Buffalo...idk what record they were supporting...it wasn't good

More talk about My chemical Romance and Fallout Boy than Sublime on 1st Warped tour? We're talking a top 5 all-time KROQ radio band of all time. And you talk about charismatic front men with no mention of the late Bradley Nowell??

Sublime was a gong show live. They barely even played a full set.....Would like to have heard more about the 90s line up. 98 was the best line up. He did good things, but after 2003 he clearly wanted to gear to new audiences. Like he said, the old farts had there day. I was lucky to see 2 warped tours that were fun! Eh how about that time Tony Alva headbutt Lyman and said he ruined punk rock haha, met Alva in Montreal! True OG!
@@Ebony9762 yes Sublime were either amazing or a trainwreck which was part of their charm and legacy.
Because the scene Era was longer than the straight punk/hardcore Era. It made up the bulk of what warped tour was. They were only a full punk tour for the first few years. Kevin Lyman literally commented about old men like you that completely refuse to accept that.
