It just dawned on me that I built a massive city in Minecraft years ago around a crashed spaceship. I didn't even know where I had that idea from until just now. The ship even looked like the one from Unreal. Man this game is really built into my brain it seems.
@ Olga Jaworska, You are absolutely right! In fact, if Alexander Brandon, along with Michiel van De Boss and Cliff Blesinsky made a new Unreal game (and others as well), they would be so superb and exceptional, to a point of returning gaming in it's former glory golden ages!😎
@@AlexCBrandon It’s so cool to see you around! I listen to these pieces so often, they made a great deal of Unreal atmosphere. Do you have a favorite track of that score yourself?

I would say an emotion, too. When the music played at the start of this video kicks in... it's like realization hits your protagonist like a brick. You're isolated, alone, fighting for your survival. And suddenly you have a moment to let your mortality and lack of hope sink in; you may well die on this planet, in this mine even. But there's still a twinge of survivor's instinct and determination coursing through that song.
I remember when I got this game for birthday from my sister a few years ago. I've played UT before, but Unreal totally blew me away. The unforgettable moment when the light go off, music stops and silence engulfs the area. And then a Skaarj warrior bursts through a newly opened door, the action music kicking in.... It's just unreal. My absolutely favourite game of all time. It's a shame the series basically died and there has never been a worthy successor.
What an unforgettable moment in gaming history !! The lights slowly turning off in that corridor one by one. You're trapped. The lights turn Red. The Skaarj warrior pounces on you !
Couldn't have said it better. There were many good games. Then there was Unreal. You didn't put it on any top 10, 20, n lists. It was above all that. Still is. Will forever be. It's Unreal.
@@despeinadormisterioso5741 Absolutely! One word! Said it all! It wasn't a game. It was an experience you lived. All those that keep coming back to this music 23 years on know it.
The buildup to the first Skaarj encounter is legitimately one of the coolest moments in any game, and this is coming from someone who didn’t play it until 22 years after it was out. It’s perfect, the fact the enemy in question is also one of the best in the game only further enhances it.

A very poignant, beautiful and touching theme for what is essentially a simple mineral mine / enemy base level. The music alone transforms the main experience from hostile infiltration to exciting discovery and occasional but not really dangerous combat.
That mineral mine aesthetic looked like what you see in UK council estate flats and some 60s/70s era commercial buildings - even the lights are very much like the square shaped fluorescent lights
I think it may be in part due to the song being deliberately made to sound "alien". You can't quite make out the instruments or pin down the genre.
