In case you're wondering about the title - it's actually a written requirement for tech RUclipsrs that they use a device for at least 169 hours before writing a review. However, for MacBooks it's actually 420 hours, but I got special permission from Tim Cook. Stay tuned for the "long-term" review at 1337 hours!
What do you use to clean your midnight MBA? It looks much cleaner than other youtubers'. Do you think it's a hassle to keep up with it or is the color still worth buying? Thanks.
@@neocs193p Isopropyl alcohol. In my personal opinion I don't like midnight simply due to the fact it looks filthy after a few days without being cleaned.
The MacBook air is a good deal everywhere except in Kenya. It has an unacceptable price here. See the comparison between it and the 14" MacBook pro. MacBook Air M2, 8GPU cores, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD goes for KSh. 255,000 i.e 2,125.51 USD MacBook pro 14", 8 core CPU, 14 core GPU, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD for KSh. 305,000 i.e 2,542.28 USD. We get the MacBook pro with 512GB SSD for KSh. 275,000 i.e 2,292.22 USD. There's no way I can buy the M2 MacBook air in Kenya however light it is with such small price differences🙅
@@Shalomrutere Here in Brazil is no different. Recently I purchased a brand-new Macbook Air M1 and it was equivalent to 7 minimum Brazilian salaries, quite a lot of money for us.
I'm a developer that puts a heavy load on my laptop. I first bought a M2 Air with 24G ram, then a few days later ended up buying the 14" M1 Pro partly because these RUclips reviews. After using both of them, I'm keeping the Air and returning the Pro. The Air is night and day more portable, lighter, easy to hold in one hand, easy to put down and pick up. The pro is a heavy beast in comparison that feels awkward to hold. Also the Air demolishes any task I throw at it. It gets hot very fast under a heavy sustained workload but it has no issues and is literally as fas as the pro (sometimes even faster) 95% of the time.
Thanks, this video and your comment have finally enabled me to make up my mind, all those other geek videos really had me conflicted because my heart was saying M2 Air but I figured that I should listen to the experts or I'd regret it. Awesome to hear a "real world" POV. I'm one of the tab hoarders mentioned in the video!
I’m glad to hear a positive statement about the M2 Air cause a lot of people have been very negative on the M2 Air that it gets too hot or anything else about it. I ordered the 15 inch M2 Air and excited to try It! Especially I got the 24GB RAM with the Base storage since I have a 5TB external HDD
This is probably my 30th RUclips video about the M2 MacBook Air and I must say this is probably one of my favorites. Top 3 for sure. I actually purchased the space grey 16g ram and 512g SSD. After watching this video I think I made the right choice. I’m starting college this fall for mechanical engineering so I wanted to future proof it so it can effectively adapt to my needs as the years go on. Thanks!
Just an FYI you will be having to VMWare the fuck outta some classes. I studied ME & had to use MatLab, Solidworks, etc. It works but just so you know it may be difficult to do some of the softwares on your mac.
@@irondog8898 thanks for the heads up! Ya I heard that. Almost didn’t get an apple because of that. But I heard parallels is a good one to run a windows OS.
This channel helped me not overspend when purchasing my m1 air. I was planning to either bump up my storage to 512 or my ram to 16gb, but realized that the base model is enough for my school needs. Been using my laptop for almost a year now and I'm completely happy with it, so thanks! This channel deserves more subs
As someone who has moved from a 14” M1 Pro MBP to M2 Air, I really appreciate this only video that understands and explains the importance of portability and ultra slim form factor. Great video! I love my MBA M2 model and I really appreciate how thin and light it is.
Love your “alternate” take and the points you make, especially that the 14” M1 Pro isn’t the automatic choice once you start upgrading the Air. The thinner form factor and lighter weight are legitimate advantages over the Pro. Personally, I am looked forward to the rumored 15” Air. My ideal machine is something light with a bigger screen for my aging eyes.
You’d think Created Tech would have a million subscribers at this point, the quality is so good and you can see how much hard work is put into this. Keep it up!
I bought a 14”, then returned it after a couple of days. Yeah it’s crazy fast, has an amazing screen and the speakers are top notch. But it’s just too big and heavy for my taste.
After moving to Apple Silicon, I don't consider the Macbook Air line to be just the "entry level" laptop or the "average daily user's mac" any more. I consider it to be the entry level "Pro" laptop that is both flexible and powerful enough to do almost anything. It's a big leap from how it was initial marketed when it was still running on Intel. Heck you couldn't do much editing on the old Airs. This "entry level" macbook easily competes with intel i7/ i9s or the latest AMD processors.
I bought the M2 Air with 10 core GPU, 16GB RAM & 2TB SSD & love it. It’s light weight and I can carry it about knowing that all my important file are onboard for quick access if I need them and there’s more than enough power under the hud for what I need it for.
Some people do not understand how much weight can make a difference, I carry my laptop everywhere and it has most of my work on it, imagine carrying that along side other things in a tote or a shoulder bag.
This is the first review of a tech RUclipsr acknowledging that just because the price is the same you should buy the big thing. Thank you good sir, subscribe earned!
To anyone with a small budget.. I use my MacBook Air M1 all day everyday and the base has done me great. I do a lot more than he mentions here and not had a slowdown. If you’re going Base, just save the money and get the M1
In the end i went with the m1 macbook air. What sold me was the wedge shape and price. I have no doubt that the M2 is better and I REALLY wanted magsafe back. But what I opted for is to safe money for maybe another year and wait for the next macbook air to see if we get something that doesn't feel like a compromise. Because even the macbook pro base model is missing magsafe .
Really wanna buy the M2 but the price is off putting. Lack of heat sink also bothers me, considering getting the M1 but it's 2 years old at this point, so I've kinda just been holding off and waiting for the M3 Macbook airs which should be out next year
Heh, I think I'm one of the people who discovered your channel back in like November 2020 because I was looking for info about the M1 MacBooks. Love your videos!
You convinced me to skip M1 and get the M2 with 16 RAM and 512 SSD BUT what about the GPU? Is the 8 core GPU enough or I should get the one with 10 core? I am not media pro, just a regular user, I do some occasional photo editing (lightroom) for personal use (nothing commercial). The reason i ask is that i plan to keep it for at least 6 years (my current 2012/13 Air is still working :)
14" MBP is a brick. MBA M2 is as portable as your iPhone. MBP - Feel the resistance to take it with you daily MBA - No resistance to carry with you daily Portability experience is a night and day difference and is worth the sacrifice of anything where MBP is better. If portability doesn't mean to you much, then MBP is better
I was at the store and the first thing that I did not like about of the MBA was the resolution of the screen. I have a 16 MBP as a desktop and you clearly see the difference.
Finally a reviewer that does not just say to get the MBP just because price/performance is better. You just don't feel a performance difference. Either you want the Mini-LED Display and additional connections (MBP) or you need a lighter device to carry around (Air). And it is not just a bit lighter, what many reviewers say. You really feel the difference and can do the things you did on a MBP on such a slim device. If you don't want to carry it around at all, get the MBP - In this case I don't see any reason to get the Air. Just my two cents.
Exactly right. I went with a 24gb 1tb M2 machine for programming. I didn't want the pro 14s weight and bulk. Also heard some worrying things about the battery life.
May I ask how much your MBA uses in RAM when you only do light work? I got the 24 GB as well, but with only Safari opened and just like 4 tabs, my MBA uses around 12 of RAM (~10 GB is used app memory). To me that sounds insane.
@@louisea308 I seem to be running on 12-13gb with Brave browser open with a few tabs, Spotify and some text apps running. So what you're experiencing is similar to my experience. But from there you'd have to open a lot of stuff to go past 16 GB. When I had opened a Dev workflow i was only just over 16gb. So I think 16 is a fantastic amount for vast majority (even me, right now) but I just went to 24 because it's about the value you get from the machine over time. 200 more isn't going to bother me over 3-4 years.
@@ic9628 Yeah. When I compare with my old PC that have 12 GB and I open loads of thing and multiple browser windows and tabs, it actively uses around 8 GB, i.e. much less than the mac. Maybe I'll just return the mac and get a windows laptop 😂
@@louisea308 lol yeah could do but I cannot compare this M2 to my Dell XPS which though beefier just slaughters battery. I mean if I look at emails for 20 mins the XPS will consume 40% from full charge. That's pretty dire. Consider a M1 air as well if you're swapping out this one. Best of luck!
I've got the base model. That was a huge upgrade for me coming from a base model 12 inch MacBook from 2017. The most intense tasks I do on this are working with files in Photoshop, creating videos from Keynote files, and audio editing. And of course multitasking with web browsing, emails, task list, calendar, etc. The M2 Air handles those things no problem.
Same, I switched from an old windows machine and this base model M2 Air is just so good. From video editing to coding it manages to handle it all pretty good!
I'm writing from a 2011 Air (4GB Ram), even leaving a comment on RUclips makes some delay between the keyboard and the letters on the screen, it is always warm and the fan spins at 6500 rpm quite often, in the summer it's hard to use it and enjoy it. I would upgrade to a M2 Air (around the black friday hoping for a discount) but at the same time I don't like the idea of getting a slower ssd
@@yenk82 I wouldn't worry about the SSD speed unless you constantly transfer large files. I don't notice it at all. And like me, an M2 Air would be a huge upgrade for you.
We already knew that the new M2 MacBook Air has become significantly more expensive. It delivers everything Apple promises, and if you’re looking for a notebook, but don’t need the horsepower of a MacBook Pro, you still get plenty of power and performance in the M2 MacBook Air.
Plenty if power and performance and overheating as soon you’re going to start working on Logic Pro or davinci resolve etc. So, we have a Mac here for 1.5$ which is perfect for web browsing… looks like a golden deal nobody should miss…
@@Nogitsune_Yako hahahaha, well the fact that the M2 MacBook Air would overheat when performing heavy tasks like graphic design work and video editing is known. It really depends what you do daily.
@@Nogitsune_Yako you sound like that all that RUclipsrs who don't ever heard about anything else except video editing. It doesn't mean if the laptop will overheat on video editing the only thing you can do with it it's web browsing. The M2 is very good for web development, and it will not overheat with this task.
@@RACAPE I’ve heard about other things as well. The thing is that I need a laptop for video editing BECAUSE OF THE DRONE, and for working with Python/Java.
@@Nogitsune_Yako The vast majority of M2 Air users are not coding or doing extensive video editing. They are writing documents, creating spreadsheets, using various apps, participating in Zoom calls along with mundane tasks like checking email, web browsing and streaming videos. This laptop is great for these kinds of work.
Just ordered this exact model. Midnight, 16gb, 512ssd. Can’t wait for it to arrive. My current work horse is a 13” MBP from 2015 - I’m expecting a nice upgrade in speed and performance! Only thing is I have to wait 2 weeks for delivery, but I’m very optimistic after this honest review. Thanks man!
Awesome honest review. Great job with your points. The other reviewers definitely focus on the same issues. I got the 16 GB of ram. I've never used SWAP and even light tasks it uses 9-10 GB. So far it's been a 10/10 purchase.
Isn't that a crazy amount of used RAM for light use though? I got the 24 GB version and with only a few tabs in Safari (no other app opened), the MBA uses 11-14 GB of memory.
@@louisea308 late response but Apple RAM caches lot of stuff in the background for faster access. Which explains the high RAM use when doing light work.
Thank you for mentioning the weight of the M1 Pro being a problem for smaller people and people experiencing musculoskeletal pain. All the other reviews pissed me off for not considering those factors.
Nice balanced take. If we always worshiped benchmarks like so many enthusiasts do, then the original Air would never have been designed because of its sacrifices. And even still, the Air is extremely powerful relative to similarly priced Windows laptops. It’s a great time to be buying a MacBook whether you go Air or Pro.
Thank you so much for not using that popular reviewer phrase “and for a littlle more money you can buy a 14” pro.” I’m configuring an Air with 2 trb ssd, 16g ram, 10 core that’s going to set me back $2299.00, a similarly configured 14” pro is $600 more! Quite a price jump. I’m buying it for music production and a large iTunes library and portability non-fan is important.
I bought an M2 MacBook Air with 16gb or ram and a 1TB SSD for DJing (Serato) and it performs great! In the past my only option for DJing was a super expensive MacBook Pro because the MacBook Air just wasn't powerful enough until now.
Exactly the form factor is its biggest asset. To have MacOS on a device as portable and light as an iPad (Pro) is insane and having used the "base" for 2 weeks it is completely worthwhile speccing up to 16G of UM and 512 G SSD even if it does almost cost as much as the 14" MacBook Pro.
One point of the video that deserves repeating... [reworded] "whenever the phrase "great for web browsing and email" appears in Macbook Air reviews, it's sort of an insult for the product, which is an actual powerful computer."
100%, I have a 24G/1TB M2 Air and I would not trade it for a 14" Pro even if it was the same price. I have a custom built heavy desktop that has all high end parts and the M2 Air is literally faster (except raw GPU power).
Trying to sell my iPad Pro 12.9 m1 to get the mba m2 , I think you are right 16gb is definitely a better option for the future, but 256gb is plenty for me since I use externals mostly .
@Gunston Gun Yeah. And if you wanna know if its overheating or not - I am doing full stack web dev, tons of apps, multiple IDEs, Parallels + win11 - works like a charm. Max temp is 55 deg C when starting win11, compiling project, indexing etc. There is a power saving mode option and I have it turned On all the time - haven't noticed a drop in performance. In my case its the best machine in a world. If some1 is doing game design, 3d design, 4k export, - probably it is going to slow down.
@Gunston Gun It uses 100% of efficiency cores (all 4 are used at 100%, 2360 MHz/2424 MHz) and 30% of performance cores (all 4 are used at 30%, 1231 MHz/3504 MHz).
I'm a new subscriber and I'm so surprised at how much taller you are. I assumed you were short because of your studio setup. Thank you for the review! As someone who is very small and has to walk around a lot, this kind of laptop sounds like a dream for long term use and possibly experimentation. Unfortunately it doesn't meet all my needs but I see massive potential if Apple updates some issues in future releases!
Yeah I'm 6'4" haha... It makes it hard to understand the impact that heavier laptops have. At almost 1 pound heavier, the 14" would feel significantly heavier to many people.
I sold my iPad Pro and was excited about the M2 Air at first. But the price was the reason I changed my mind, and as a photographer, the 14 Pro was the best option for picture editing. It depends on personal use. For me, the 14 Pro is portable enough and offers everything. The M2 Air would have been my preferred choice though. But blame it on the price.
ya i think people like to over exaggerate. seriously if little over 3 pounds is too much for you. maybe you dont need a $2,000 laptop in the first place you need a professional trainer. when i was in college i carried around a msi dragon edition 17inch gaming laptop we're talking about intel 4rth gen chunky boy era LOL
@@donjames5761 I agree with you. I mean sure, the Air is even ever so more light and compact than the 14" Macbook Pro but if you want to fully use the M2's power and get the suggested 16GB + 512GB SSD model, at least here in Italy, you're at 2000€(a bit more if you also want the GPU with two more cores) and at that point you're 200€ shy of the base model 14" Pro which is way more powerful, has an headphone jack, it won't throttle as much all at the "cost" of some grams of weight more. I really really love the Air's form factor but for me it's either just getting the 16GB RAM upgrade alone(which for 200€ is criminal) or might as well just look at the Pro.
@@agoniavr to be fair adding 200€ on top of 2000€ is a giant cost for some, I think this is the trap that Apple wanted, makes you add little things up to the point you already spend 50% more from their base option.
@@ValentinoNicko yep that's exactly what I thought myself, but if you consider you're getting these devices to keep them for a long time(unless you have money to throw away) if you don't prefer the Air's portability at that point it's just better to save that 200€ and get the Pro rather than speccing up the Air and pay that crazy amount of money for it. Another great option would be to find the base M2 Air but with the 16gb RAM upgrade at the price of the one with 8gb, that would be a good deal without spending the money for the Pro while giving the base M2 Air a huge boost in terms of performance, as I red these M chips really benefit from the added ram and you could make sure your Air is futureproof.
That is the video I was waiting for. Instead of template informations, you touched on very good points. 🥇I think the same way, I ordered M2 macbook air with 512gb ssd, 10 gpu and 16gb memory and waiting for delivery 😉 I know I paid nearly same with macbook pro 14 but I love air’s design and mobility, so I choose upgrading it.
Hello, I am considering getting the M2 Air and am wondering if it is a good idea to upgrade the RAM or SSD. I can't really afford both. The slow ram speed of 256GB doesn't really bother me other than it being slower swap memory. Would upgrading to 16GB make it so I don't have that problem? I dont really need the extra storage and if I do then I could just get external storage rather than buying the worlds most expensive SSD. I plan on using it for school, maybe video editing in the future and some occasional gaming on games like CSGO. Any help is greatly appreciated!
@Trollovich It has been tested and the slower ssd makes no difference in most professional applications except for a few like extremely large photoshop files.
Check out this video. This helped me decide on 16 Ram instead of 512 ssd if I had to choose one. It compares the performance of 16/256 to 8/512. ruclips.net/video/YKRO-4BiZrI/видео.html
I'm a new MacBook owner. This is my very first MacBook. It's great to hear a more practical review. I agree with all of your commentary, and the sentiments that you shared is precisely why I chose to get a 16gb 1TB MacBook Air. I am very pleased with it so far, and do not regret not getting the 14in MacBook Pro due to the portability and lightweight of the air. I don't plan to replace it for at least a few years, and I definitely think I''ll get my money's worth.
Couldn't agree more on this, I opted for a Midnight M2 Air 10 core GPU 16GB unified memory & 512GB SSD and form factor was my main focus given it's for use on the go. Really in most workflows I find there are diminishing returns from moving up to a Pro unless it's your main system, but I've got a powerful Ryzen desktop for that. Most people forget that only a few years ago, we would have dreamed of this level of performance in such a small form factor with battery life that can comfortably last an entire day or longer.
Just ordered the M2 air with 16gb ram. I decided not to upgrade the storage because honestly i don’t keep too much on my current 2012 macbook pro so it didn’t seem worthwhile especially when i can get external SSD’s if i need the extra storage. I really wanted to get the 14in pro but it simply doesn’t make sense given my current usage i couldn’t justify spending that much more for such a powerful laptop that i won’t use the power on atleast not currently. I did opt to upgrade the ram on the M2 though simply for future proofing especially when considering i did the same thing on my current MBP and it’s lasted me 10yrs.
Hello nice video ! Can you help me ? i have to decide between going from my 2016 macbook pro (first generation with touchbar i think) to the Air M2 or the new Macbook pros with the M1/M1 max. I'm looking for something that can hold sometimes a whole day of working/Several hours rather on Software that i use as a Chemist but also to make video editing with a sony zv1 (not to crazy) and making music a little bit. Does the Air M2 suffice or do i have to consider the pros ? (I would prefer the Air regarding the price but i also dont want to buy something i have no use of lol) Please tell me what y'all think ! Thank you !
M2 Air with 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD (if you can afford the extra SSD upgrade. If not, just upgrade the RAM). It will be enough for simple video editing, anything more intense and the 14" M1 Pro is better.
I don’t do much but surf the internet and RUclips. I got the M2 base with the 512GB ssd and 10 core GPU upgrade from Costco for 1299$. They had the M2 13 pro for the same but coming from a 2015 MacBook Pro 13 I wanted something different. I’m very happy, my only complaint is its really cold to the touch lol. No need for a fan this laptop feels like a refrigerator when you touch it.
With shared RAM/integrated graphics and non-upgradable RAM, more is better. I just ordered the GPD Win Max 2 with AMD 6800U and ended up going with 32GB rather than 16GB so I don't need to worry about being limited.
Any comments on the typing experience? I've heard some reviews claiming that the M2 MBA keyboard and trackpad felt cheap compared to the M1 MBA, that it felt like a downgrade, rather than an upgrade. I've heard that is less stable and less sturdy than the M1. I compared the M1 and M2 MBA, side by side, in an Apple Store, and I didn't get that impression, but then again I just tested it for a few minutes. Any thoughts after hours of use? I do type a lot on daily basis, so that's an important issue for me.
I think it depends on when it was manufactured. My M1 Air keyboard feels loose and not as nice compared to my gf's M1 Air keyboard feeling much nicer to type on.
@@D37fit Wow, I didn't know that the keyboard quality varied from one MacBook to another, depending on the manufacturing date. Thanks a lot for the heads-up.
Hello. Can someone help me with a question I have. I'm thinking of buying a macbook air m2, but what I don't know is how much ram or ssd memory I have to add. I am 15 years old, about to turn 16. I am from Spain, and I am in fourth year of ESO. I plan to study chemical engineering or pharmacy, or if I don't do those two, then quantum physics. I want my macbook to last a long time, that's why I ask you, how much ram or ssd memory would you recommend? Thanks
I have the 14" Pro already and just bought an M1 Air as the M2 Air just sits in a weird no mans land between the two laptops, its all about your use case. The Pro for me is about doing work, maybe schlepping down to the coffee shop. The M1 Air is a more personal device to chuck into my backpack when travelling. I can do light work on it, but more likely it'll be consuming RUclips / Netflix or browsing the web. With the M2, by the time the RAM and Storage is bumped to make it a useable work machine you're paying near the same as a Pro.
I have the 14” and it doesn’t feel like a chungus to me. The 14” is a better machine. Multiple external displays, 3 thunderbolt 4 ports, much better screen with 120 Hz. Only downside is the higher cost.
@@CreatedTech I already have bro, I think you’re over exaggerating. Especially since there are windows laptops like the nice asus Rog strix scar that are still relatively thin, but are much heavier. The 14” MacBook is not a chungus by any stretch of the imagination. In my opinion. It is a better machine. In my opinion.
@@j340_official Like I explained in the video, there are many people that don't feel the same way. I'm 6'4" and 200lbs and I can easily tell the difference in weight. The Air is almost 1lb lighter, which is significant for a lot of people. And again, like I said in the video, the 14" only feels like a chungus when DIRECTLY compared to the M2 Air. In all other regards it's actually a relatively light and compact professional laptop.
I make sense to change my base version for a 16 gb RAM and 512 gb SSD in the future? Or is better to stay with this one for more time! I use my nowadays for simple tasks and web browsing
I chose 1TB with 24GB RAM ,, Can't wait to start programming on it. and at the same time i'll be sad to say goodbye to me 2013 macbook pro it was really good till today.
For those into digital arts, I still think the M1 MacBook Pro 14 inch is the better value. Digital art being defined as front-end website development, photography, video editing, sound engineering, and DJs. However, M2 Macbook Air is great for ameture digital art work and casual internet use. Even better if someone is small and light weight.
Still think the M1 Air is the way to go or M1 in general, the generational jumped happened and until another bigger improvement comes potentially the M3 there's no big reason for M2 unless your pushing high output content.
I still prefer the M1 Macbook Air More bang for the buck. The performance uplift is small, purely from a overall transistor count that can be squeezed onto the SOC.
I’m gonna start medical school in a month and I want to buy a Mac, I was gonna go for the M2 MacBook Air with the base everything like 256gb storage etc, but I’m now wondering if I should upgrade to 512 but I think that’s out of my current budget so I don’t know can someone help?
Agree. For all this I changed my mb pro 14 m2 1tb with an mba 24gb 512gb...but mainly for the keyboard: I really prefer the keyboard on the mba and I found the thickness of the mb pro 14 uncomfortable to type.
Dude whenever people say it can do web browsing and send emails i'm like what Lmao any laptop can do that. This is the M series chip designed from apple I think it can do a hell of alot more than that lol.
I am a windows user who want move to macOS but either MBA M1 or M2 OR MBP 13 M1 or MBP 13 M2 still in my head and also so many plus and minus reviews i have watched.. If you guys have any opinions please let me know what best should to buy, Thanks! *MBP 14in is out of my budget 😁
That's what I bought. 16 GB memory and 512 GB storage. Before this, I had a 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro with 8 GB memory and 256 GB storage. I had ordered the 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro, then I noticed it has a shittier webcam than the Air and no MagSafe. So I cancelled the MBP and ordered the Air. I'm pretty happy with the MBA so far. It's a lot snappier than the 2020 MBP was (RIP)
The M2 base model starts at almost 1600 USD here in the EU. I just received my MBA M2 which I upgraded to 24 GB RAM (and 512 GB drive), but even when I only have Safari open and like with 4 tabs (and nothing running in them), 12 GB of memory is used, which doesn't seem right..
How is this working out? Was going to try the same configuration (24Gb/512Gb) because I also wanted to allocate 8Gb to Windows. And upgrading the 14” to 32Gb is too expensive, plus it’s too heavy IMO.
@@pressrepeat2000 I can answer your question. I got it myself and its perfect. I am doing web dev, full stack, tons of apps, IDEs, docker, chrome, win11 with parallels - NO problems at all. Max CPU temp I got while running everything at once is 55 Celsius. Most common temp is 35-40 C. It happens, that the process WindowServer starts consuming 100% of 1 cpu core for some reason, it seems to be a bug somewhere, - at this point - idle temp goes to 45C. Overall this machine is 100% perfect, its beautiful, lightweight, thin, best apple device I have ever had. My config is 24 RAM 10 cores GPU 1 TB ssd. It never goes anywhere close to being warm.
@@pressrepeat2000 1 thing I have forgot - there is a setting in battery options, Low power mode - this setting makes this machine super cool. It limits its power and I have forgot that I turned it on. During work, I haven't felt any downsides of having it on low power mode, but if low power mode is turned OFF - and I throw everything at once, so the win11 is running with its DEV environment + mac with its own dev env, - then this machine turns warm and temp even spikes to 100 C. Yet even so, I would not trade its form factor. For example, now I have YT, full stack dev env (rider + webstorm), zoom for calls, docker, db, nodejs and machine is 36 C constant. Win11 is suspended. Low power is ON. But there is no any kind of lag or anything, everything is smooth, so even if this machine is somewhat limited - personally, I am fine with that.
i am a btech cse student in india 3rd year, confused between m2 macbook air and m1 pro macbook pro 14 inch, the price difference i am getting between both devices at 512 16 config is 28k inr. I plan to do things majorly related to coding and development. Is it worth the upgrade to 14 inch?
Pro dev here. Unless you do game development or need to run multiple simultaneous dev environments, even an M1 air base model is more than enough. Using the M2 MacBook air, everything just builds and compiles so fast, I don't miss my PC when outside
In terms of price and capability, the spec you choose vs base Pro are almost equal. It comes down to physical form. Do you want lighter laptop or chunkier? Also, if you upgrade the Pro it will become significantly more expensive but ask yourself if you need all that power? If your answer is yes, I would advise considering desktop with wide screen option.
Would you say this could be used for a RUclipsr who doesn't do crazy editing? Surely, some effects, text overlays here and there, but nothing crazy? I urgently need a new machine but really wouldn't wanna buy the M1 MBP given that a new one will be out in the next 4-ish months... M2 Air is great form factor. I'm currently editing on my absolutely terrible Dell XPS 13 so... :D
Just buy M1 Air since you can perform the same light task for 850USD instead of 1100USD with mostly same form factor, imo basically the extra cost goes to the new shinys, if you want to upgrade just upgrade the M1 air with 16gigs of RAM and 512 SSD instead, it’s more cost effective tbh
Honestly if you even think the M2 MBA and the 14" M1 Pro/Max are worthy of comparison then you probably need a reality check lol Let me break it down in Ooga Booga: Me only carry little rock no big rock: M1/M2 MBA Me need carry big and little rock: 13" M1 MBP / 14" M1 MBP / (M1/M2 MBA If not sustained load) Me carry big rock only: 14" M1 MBP / 16" M1 MBP
Apple needs to remember we are in an Inflation period which will lead quickly to a recession. I will get the M1-Refurbished Air as it will be my backup and vacation computer. I will wait 8-9 years to replace it as by then I will need an update!
@@VaporEG I think you're the sick little man judging by the special requests you just sent me. Licking peanut butter off a spoon while dressed like Tim Cook? Who thinks of that???
I think of the notch very much like on the iphones. You don’t even notice it after a couple of days. Not a deal breaker. However i don’t think you need to consider upgrading if you already have a M1 air
@@smgs921 unfortunately for me it is. I prefer a larger forehead and chin bezel like the M1 MacBook Air with a perfectly symmetrical square cut out than a notch. Apple will eventually remove the notch at some point. When they do I will upgrade then.
In Thailand you could sell 1 car to buy 1 Macbook. Seriously? Apple will not stop pushing the price boundary. To be honest 13 inch is too small giving user terrible experience for coding, photo editing or video editing. For M2 price they only give user 8 Gb of Ram, 256 Gb Disk Storage (with 6 times slower speed on base model, is 256 Gb even enough in 2022 ?), 13 Inch feels like "iphone Mini" that no one use too.
You and oliur have the only actual good reviews. Heck the m1 is more than enough for more peoples m2 is better for single core performance tasks like coding or design and the M1 Pro/max is better for long term sustained performance tasks like video editing and 3D rendering

The MacBook air is a good deal everywhere except in Kenya. It has an unacceptable price here. See the comparison between it and the 14" MacBook pro.
MacBook Air M2, 8GPU cores, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD goes for KSh. 255,000 i.e 2,125.51 USD
MacBook pro 14", 8 core CPU, 14 core GPU, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD for KSh.
I also want to buy these model . Can you tell me how long does it last when you put heavy workload ? I would like to buy the one with 16/512
Thanks, this video and your comment have finally enabled me to make up my mind, all those other geek videos really had me conflicted because my heart was saying M2 Air but I figured that I should listen to the experts or I'd regret it. thanks for your comment, i just went to the gadget store and tried their macbook pro 14 it's very heavy, i think i'll just buy macbook air
Thank you for the comment. I spent hours figuring out which one to choose and your comment is really helpful
Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!

As someone who has moved from a 14” M1 Pro MBP to M2 Air, I really appreciate this only video that understands and explains the importance of portability and ultra slim form factor. Great video! I love my MBA M2 model and I really appreciate how thin and light it is.
is 8gb enough?
Love your “alternate” take and the points you make, especially that the 14” M1 Pro isn’t the automatic choice once you start upgrading the Air. The thinner form factor and lighter weight are legitimate advantages over the Pro. Personally, I am looked forward to the rumored 15” Air. My ideal machine is something light with a bigger screen for my aging eyes.
Buy a bigger monitor
@@thanatosor And place it on my lap?

He'll be there soon.
This is the most realistic and accurate review of the M2 Air.
I bought the M2 Air with 10 core GPU, 16GB RAM & 2TB SSD & love it. It’s light weight and I can carry it about knowing that all my important file are onboard for quick access if I need them and there’s more than enough power under the hud for what I need it for.
Your channel and content deserve more views! Keep up the good work man!
Great Script and Video Masterclass Editing! Inspiring. Also love the Purple background 🎉😮
Lack of heat sink also bothers me, considering getting the M1 but it's 2 years old at this point, so I've kinda just been holding off and waiting for the M3 Macbook airs which should be out next year
The wedge-formed case of the Macbook Air M1 is superior and feels much more solid compared to the new Macbook Air M2 in my opinion.
Heh, I think I'm one of the people who discovered your channel back in like November 2020 because I was looking for info about the M1 MacBooks. Love your videos!
You're one of the OGs - thanks for watching!
Don't bother with the 10 core GPU option, it's not worth it.
14" MBP is a brick. MBA M2 is as portable as your iPhone.
MBP - Feel the resistance to take it with you daily
MBA - No resistance to carry with you daily
Portability experience is a night and day difference and is worth the sacrifice of anything where MBP is better.
The best review of M2 Air to date. period.
As a video editor should I go for 24gb ram? Yes , Mac Pro is a better alternate at the price but I wish to travel light and easy, What do you suggest?

It's a kg of difference. Hopefully being a bitch wasn't fatal.
Finally someone with a sensible video on the M2.. bought a 1tb 16 gb.. portability and lightweight m2 over 14 inch MacBook if it costs the same.
thank you so much for clearing my confusion... Im going with the MacBook air 15" with M2 chip and 16GB and 512GB
Trying to sell my iPad Pro 12.9 m1 to get the mba m2 , I think you are right 16gb is definitely a better option for the future, but 256gb is plenty for me since I use externals mostly .
Great insights!! Myself ordered m2 air with 16gb ram and base storage.
If I will finally decide, I will buy this machine, 24gb + 1k storage. Fanless is the future. 14" pro is way too massive to move it around.
@Gunston Gun yes
@Gunston Gun Haven't checked that. But I suppose it doesn't go higher then 75%, maybe even 50%. If I'll remember tomorrow, I can check and post here.
@Gunston Gun It uses 100% of efficiency cores (all 4 are used at 100%, 2360 MHz/2424 MHz) and 30% of performance cores (all 4 are used at 30%, 1231 MHz/3504 MHz).

What about editing videos using an external monitor connected to the M2 Air … will the overhead of the external monitor impact performance?
Hello, I am considering getting the M2 Air and am wondering if it is a good idea to upgrade the RAM or SSD. I can't really afford both. The slow ram speed of 256GB doesn't really bother me other than it being slower swap memory. Would upgrading to 16GB make it so I don't have that problem? I dont really need the extra storage and if I do then I could just get external storage rather than buying the worlds most expensive SSD. I plan on using it for school, maybe video editing in the future and some occasional gaming on games like CSGO. Any help is greatly appreciated!
@Trollovich not true watch art is right video on the ssd topic. Non issue
@Trollovich It has been tested and the slower ssd makes no difference in most professional applications except for a few like extremely large photoshop files.
Check out this video. This helped me decide on 16 Ram instead of 512 ssd if I had to choose one. It compares the performance of 16/256 to 8/512.

As a backend dev I'm still thinking if the m2 air 16gb 512gb is already good for my usecase or do I need to spend more to get the pro 🤷♂️

I'm looking for something that can hold sometimes a whole day of working/Several hours rather on Software that i use as a Chemist but also to make video editing with a sony zv1 (not to crazy) and making music a little bit.
Does the Air M2 suffice or do i have to consider the pros ? (I would prefer the Air regarding the price but i also dont want to buy something i have no use of lol)
Please tell me what y'all think !
Honestly did not notice a difference. M2 keyboard and trackpad are still very nice to use.
@@CreatedTech Thanks so much for your reply. So reassured and relieved to get some feedback from an experienced user.
I much prefer the feel of the MBA M1 case to the MVA M2, which seems less solid. MBA M2 rattles a bit and feels "hollow". Try it first.
Undecided on m2air and m1pro but looking to own it for 5+ years if i can. Which one is likely to last longer based on specs?
@Trollovich thanks for the insight! Do you think that having no fan in the m2 would make it difficult to keep the laptop alive in the long run though?
@Trollovich big big thank you 🙏🏼
5:46 an extra $200?! thats too much let me survive with my 8GB. I pretty much only use word and chrome
I have the 14” and it doesn’t feel like a chungus to me. The 14” is a better machine. Multiple external displays, 3 thunderbolt 4 ports, much better screen with 120 Hz. Only downside is the higher cost.
Hold an M2 Air in one hand and your 14" in the other and you'll see what I mean.
@@CreatedTech to each their own bro. Nonetheless, I love the new MacBook designs. Apple is doing good things.
@Trollovich ok troll. Enjoy.
This leaves me wondering whether there may be space in Apples lineup for a 12“ entry model as spiritual successor to the M1 MBA…
I bought yesterday m2 air 16gb ram 512 ssd
I’ve watched a lot of M2 MacBook Air reviews and I have to say, I really like your insights. Just put a little more work on that Aussie accent😉
Still think the M1 Air is the way to go or M1 in general, the generational jumped happened and until another bigger improvement comes potentially the M3 there's no big reason for M2 unless your pushing high output content.
I wish I would see this video before I ordered my 8/1TB😢😢😢
I still prefer the M1 Macbook Air
More bang for the buck.
The performance uplift is small, purely from a overall transistor count that can be squeezed onto the SOC.
Is the the M2 worth upgrading from an M1 air?
Nope!!
@@suryansh12 is it worth getting m2 air or m1
I’m gonna start medical school in a month and I want to buy a Mac, I was gonna go for the M2 MacBook Air with the base everything like 256gb storage etc, but I’m now wondering if I should upgrade to 512 but I think that’s out of my current budget so I don’t know can someone help?
Agree. For all this I changed my mb pro 14 m2 1tb with an mba 24gb 512gb...but mainly for the keyboard: I really prefer the keyboard on the mba and I found the thickness of the mb pro 14 uncomfortable to type.
What is your battery cycle count ?
Dude whenever people say it can do web browsing and send emails i'm like what Lmao any laptop can do that. This is the M series chip designed from apple I think it can do a hell of alot more than that lol.
I am a windows user who want move to macOS but either MBA M1 or M2 OR MBP 13 M1 or MBP 13 M2 still in my head and also so many plus and minus reviews i have watched..
And at the ended my confusing said to keep my money keep not to buy one of them...waiting for something new surprising (maybe).
Thanks for this video.
How's going with your machine? I am considering same config but really unsure if 24gigs of ram is enough.
@@machinized Thanks for the response! Seems like the perfect machine.
I don’t understand people who complain about 14 Pro “largeness and heaviness”. Buy IPad Air then.
Mate you are confusing me with that accent and using USD currency are you in Aus or US? ☺☺
If you are not getting at least 512gb, you should just get the M1 MBA and save some money.
Where I can find the orange-purple wallpaper from the beginning of the video?
The MBP 14 future proofs it for me. Much better speakers, xdr promotion display, faster ssd and sustained performance.
i am a btech cse student in india 3rd year, confused between m2 macbook air and m1 pro macbook pro 14 inch, the price difference i am getting between both devices at 512 16 config is 28k inr.
I'm suspecting that the Air with M3 will be a better computer, maybe Apple will introduce the 12 GB Ram as per default
For basic stuff - yeah it's fine, especially if you're using one of the supported footage codecs (ProRes, HEVC, h.264)
@@CreatedTech Thank you 🙏!
i love the title
Wonder what happened to the giveaway 🥺
im waiting for the m2pro refresh ! for me, the air only having usb-c well im getting tired of dongles.
Magsafe and the new design were worth the extra dollars to me
Honestly if you even think the M2 MBA and the 14" M1 Pro/Max are worthy of comparison then you probably need a reality check lol
Let me break it down in Ooga Booga:
Me only carry little rock no big rock: M1/M2 MBA
Me need carry big and little rock: 13" M1 MBP / 14" M1 MBP / (M1/M2 MBA If not sustained load)
Me carry big rock only: 14" M1 MBP / 16" M1 MBP
How can I get this wallpaper?? :)
Which m2 air did you use, was it the base variant?
Yes
@@CreatedTech thanks i recently bought the base variant as well it is amaZing!
@@AbhishekChauhan-jr6zp Same here. Got the midnight. Absolutely love it
Apple needs to remember we are in an Inflation period which will lead quickly to a recession. I will get the M1-Refurbished Air as it will be my backup and vacation computer. I will wait 8-9 years to replace it as by then I will need an update!
I totally agree with you while watching this video on my M2 MacBook Air with 16+512
Does it heat up as much when you’re doing stuff on the MBA? Just wondering as want to play a game on it and afraid it gets too hot.
I like how he talks about his channel "now" like he's got 2 million subscribers lol
I do have 2 million, 180k here and 1.8 million on OnlyFans. You've been a paying member for over 12 months, you'd know ;)
@@CreatedTech Sick little man
@@VaporEG I think you're the sick little man judging by the special requests you just sent me. Licking peanut butter off a spoon while dressed like Tim Cook? Who thinks of that???
I love Apple products. As a M1 MacBook air user I'm not upgrading until the notch is removed.
When people say "honestly" or "I'm not going to lie".. Does that mean that you normally lie or are dishonest?.. Something to think about, right 😉
