There is a huge difference between a girlfriend and a mia chao (rented wife). The video, I think, is discussing mia chaos. Decide which you want. My points below are mostly relevant to finding a girlfriend. Two points: 1) While I agree that you should generally look for a girlfriend who has never been a bargirl, I disagree that you should have her give up her job to take care of you. Having her dependent on you for money is bad for both of you. This can be different if you want to have kids together, especially if you marry. However, in general, it is much better if she retains her financial independence. 2) The girl needing to pour money into her family is primarily an issue with those from poor families, especially from up country. However delightful the girl might be, most of the time you should resist girls with those ties, especially if you are an expat. Although it takes time and effort, instead cultivate friendships with girls from middle class families. Then, the family may or may not approve of you, but there will not be the expectation that you are a walking ATM machine. There is never any certainty that the friendship will develop into a sexual relationship but, if she genuinely likes you, it usually will eventually. If the girl is a virgin, it could be a year before she is ready. On the other hand, when I was early forties, I met a 20-year-old university student who had experienced a bust up with her conservative, but well off, Northern Thai family. She seemed shy (had never had a boyfriend) but quickly bonded with me as someone who could support her emotionally at a bad time. We ended up in bed together for the first time within a week of meeting each other. Try to meet several nice middle class girls, and see how things develop. She could tell I liked her, and seemed disappointed that I did not barfine her (I almost never do). Chinese do the same thing. I 've lived in several Chinese cities and in BKK before. It's mostly BS that they are "rich'. Guys In their 50 s from places like Sydney, London, NY etc can still generally easily outspend most Thai or Chinese people, and they don't need to borrow.

@Mi No yes. I agree for people under 40 the debt levels are very high. Your figures could be extrapolated to the UK and Australia also, which have similar levels of household debt. I know a lot of men in 50 s though who can pay cash for luxury items. They can still be at risk from a crafty Asian gal though. The scary thing is that some men are actually putting themselves into even more debt to provide for girls in Thailand and Philippines.

In all honesty, in Thailand you can either buy company and affection, or for the most part, you're just as lonely as in the west, if not worst!; is that a true statement, a good subject for a good follow up video.

It’s not possible to be as lonely as in the West, unless you are totally broke with no money at all. With just little money you will still get laid which you will struggle to do in the West, with larger sums.

Thailand 🇹🇭 is my home even though I m not there full time at the moment due to work. I was in my late 40’s and I never met the type of girls you have depicted in this video. They were professional woman with normal jobs. While they did not earn the same money as me they where happy to share, to which was small but was appreciated. This is spot on with the expected costs of a Thai GF or wife in any setting. You have to cover the family payment, which is not that much if your girl is fair. 10-20K baht per month, anything more is up to you. It is a little payment that goes a long way, Thai society doesn't have social welfare, they're ruled by a corrupt and selfish elite, social welfare is totally private and relies on family, if you want to join a Thai family, there is a responsibility you have to be willing to shoulder.

There are girls (women) not in bars that could be an actual GF long term with the intent of marrying and having a family with a Foreigner, but Pattaya bars are not where you will find such. What do you end up getting by paying a salary, her living expenses, shopping needs/wants, nightlife needs/wants, I mean you are paying for what exactly? A maid? Sex? Sex is such a small part of a relationship and if all you are paying for is a girlfriend??? Doesn't anyone want to be liked, cared about or cared for as you care about and care for them? Perhaps lead to a commitment to each other often called love. Paying to support each other when in love is one thing, just paying to have someone like an employee or business transaction is entirely something else. The first time I was in Thailand was in 1989, and I learned very early that a full-time Thai girlfriend is a waste and a Thai wife will only disappoint in the long run. Either way, her family will always be the problem because of the high, never-ending cost. So if you all want regular sex (once or twice a week), take common sense precautions, and you will have no problem finding excellent service for a fraction of the price of a full-time girlfriend. You might get lucky and find an excellent regular service provider for a few months or even a year. If you are fortunate, you will find a great little hole in the wall with reasonable prices for good food and drink with great company, and if you are truly lucky, they may even remember your name and greet you with genuine appreciation. All along, your life will be blessed while you save loads of money and avoid unnecessary drama. (Just a different perspective, honed over the decades from experience and observation.) 🙂

As usual Daz's insight reaches the parts other bloggers fail to reach... 🍻 I think that if you consider the relationships that he describes as similar to sugar daddy relationships, then it's more understandable. It ties in nicely with the host bars. The Thai attitude to s3x attracts many people from around the world because it is so open. But it's also monetized. That's whether you're looking at ST or gik or long term companionship; gay, straight, or (in the case of the host bars) f2m. It has a value and that value is whatever an individual is prepared to pay! Personally, I think it's refreshing compared to the West, but open to abuse like any other system that has people and their emotions at its heart.

Both were expecting support in the area of 15000 salary or more, plus occasional large bills, total approx 25,000/mo. They definitely expect financial help. I say "or more" because there is near constant pressure from them to keep buying them things. And they never really asked for things that didn't seem reasonable, it was just that they don't have much to start with. No furniture nor real kitchen appliances, computer, old phones, etc. It all adds up, not cheap over time.

You are making me expert at things I will most likely never need to be expert at. But it also reveals some things about human nature, cultural differences, and other things. We never know what the future brings. Having knowledge and skills about another option is never a bad thing. I've made it to 66 without ever having a situation anything like a transaction with a bar girl, or paying a woman a salary to quit her job. Where I live (USA) I've never found it too difficult to find a relationship as frivolous or serious as I wish. As you move up the scale of seriousness and happiness, it does require more work to find, more self discipline to not lower your standards, and more effort to build the relationship you both want, sort out how to deal with differences, etc. So, I fully understand when people choose to just go for casual fun, somewhere that it is the norm, and even easier to find than at home. The main difference is that at home, the age/2 + 7 thing lands you squarely in the lap of gold diggers, much more so than it appears to be the case in Thailand. Luckily, I actually prefer women around my own age, as long as they are in great shape. Admittedly, that eliminates 95-99% of women my age. Yet, if you're the right guy for them, that makes you 99th percentile also, when most desirable guys are looking for younger. It is pretty interesting how in any one relationship, the pairing seems unpredictable. But over large numbers of people, the patterns are very predictable. Sometimes you can find a gem by bucking a trend, other times you simply have to see what sort of partner you're still capable of attracting. Paying avoids those worries, but also takes away your motivation to be a desirable mate, who is valuable to a woman for reasons other than money. Attracting a woman, versus just shopping for one, is a large part of the fun for me. When we want and accept each other, it feels like we've accomplished something worthwhile, and it feels like the work of the search paid off, as well as having experienced some good luck.

An LTR with a girl young enough to be your granddaughter is not only expensive but statistics show a nearly 100% odds of failure. When I made my first trip to Thailand, I met the daughter of a top Thai Army General and she gave me no chance to pay any bills, she had a chauffeur who took us all around Bangkok! I worried about getting involved with her as you can imagine, but I was obliged to remain with her the whole day and could not escape easily! You might imagine this was heaven, but far from it with her being extremely demanding and trying to be dominant because of her position and hi so status!
A friend of mine, Bangladeshi guy, now one of the top people on their cricket board, got picked up by a rolls Royce in Bangkok about 40 years ago. I love Thailand and Thai culture. So much so that my hobby is learning to speak Thai. I speak and understand well enough that over the phone with a Thai stranger I am often asked if I am Thai myself. Which I am not. I am American. BUT, for the reasons you enumerate in this video I chose a Filipina woman and reside in the Philippines. It is dsifficult for me to imagine how to have a normal (non monetary) relationship with a Thai girl.

Hi One thing to remember is 60% of bar girls are not happy with what they do and are not happy with their lives. Alot of the girls are sent by very poor families to work the bars. By 01.00hrs I had met Beer, she stayed with me for 3 weeks, left the bar and went back home when I left Thailand. We are stronger than ever, have plans for the future and completely trust her. Another good video explaining things for the inexperienced and uneducated guys. Over the years I often get guys asking me about price, and some of them just don't get the negotiation that goes on. They just think there is set prices. When I was 25 years younger I used to get young and especially older attractive women (30"s) throwing themselves at me and I had even been offered money to stay a night with them, most guys don't believe that. One of my ex-wife's Aunties owned a boy bar in Bangkok and she invited me to come down a few times to hang out there for the night, it would of been fun because they were seriously rich women going to her bar, but my ex-wife wouldn't let me go for some reason :) Anyway, I always tell guys to present themselves well and watch their manners and they would be a better chance at getting a nicer looking girl to go with them and possibly get a better deal.

I understand the dynamic of having a 'girlfriend' in Thailand and while I certainly feel that as a 'less than perfect male specimen' at 68 years old, paying for a girl regardless doesn't appeal to me. Here in the Philippines, I know many older men who have girlfriends who are much younger than them. no relationship is perfect, but none of them pay a 'salary'. That's not to say they don't end up getting a lot of perks, gifts, free rent with the old guy etc., but it's a hella lot less mercenary in the Philippines than it is in Thailand. Or seems. And that half your age plus seven is a standard in French culture for a mistress.

This is really educational, I'd heard some people complain a lot about their Thai girlfriend/wife asking for money. But, since there is always an option not to be with them, I think it's fair to say that there's nothing wrong with that, we really cannot blame them for making their living, besides, they also have relatives who depends on them, for their daily food, kids school fees, etc. I always wonder are we judging them harshly, would we be really better than them if our situation have been reverse. They don't all need or want a man to pay her a salary just to date them or to support her family. After my first visit I fell in to the trap of having a freelancer for a supposed girlfriend and as she told me in order to continue with her she needed to repay her 100k debt and needed 10k a month to stay at home and be a good loyal woman. Her 45 and me 65, she leased a pickup with her son the driver and went and sold fruit from the back in her Isaan area. Then I discovered they bought the pickup over a 7 year loan which I ended up paying for over 2.5 years. Had 4 holidays with her but with covid coming the relationship finished after 5 years as I did not have that extra job anymore. Last month I found out in the background was a Thai boyfriend her age for the last 10 years but she carried on looking for rich farangs because he could not earn enough in construction to keep her love of money.

I was in Pattaya back in 2013 for my first time. However I did a lot of research for a month before going there and knew what not to do. I stayed away from the bar girls. I found a 37 year old woman who spoke fluent English and was an only child whos parents were dead. She was raised by a German man who she called father. We agreed on arrangements where she stayed with me in my hotel and she handled all the travel arrangements. I was there for a month. We toured Thailand, many islands and Cambodia. He was on his way home back to the united states and had a heart attack on the plain and died. The truth about any country and most girls is it is all about the money. Does not matter if it is Vegas, Thailand, Cambodia, Costa Rica or any other place, most of them are all the same. The only way to find a real good girl is not in a bar or on the street but at her place of work, super market or through a friend who introduces you to her. yup, that's the way to do it, I've done this, both way online and making friends on the island. It's really the best way... since, you are basically getting expert local advice, and friendship of a woman on the side with no strings attached... Just have to be aware of the scams and what to look for if one goes this route. And NEVER ever fall in love with one over the net, then start sending over cash. Always come and meet them before opening up your wallet. If they can't wait and or give some excuse why you need to send money, move on.... I've heard of people falling for a girl and losing their entire retirement savings. Don't be like that guy. If you really want to learn the ins and outs, listen to The Filipina Pea (search on youtube). Yeah, I know Philippines isn't Thailand but the scams are all the same. There is a huge difference between a girlfriend and a mia chao (rented wife). The video, I think, is discussing mia chaos. Decide which you want. My points below are mostly relevant to finding a girlfriend.
Two points:
1) While I agree that you should generally look for a girlfriend who has never been a bargirl, I disagree that you should have her give up her job to take care of you. Having her dependent on you for money is bad for both of you. This can be different if you want to have kids together, especially if you marry. However, in general, it is much better if she retains her financial independence.
2) The girl needing to pour money into her family is primarily an issue with those from poor families, especially from up country. However delightful the girl might be, most of the time you should resist girls with those ties, especially if you are an expat. Although it takes time and effort, instead cultivate friendships with girls from middle class families. Then, the family may or may not approve of you, but there will not be the expectation that you are a walking ATM machine. There is never any certainty that the friendship will develop into a sexual relationship but, if she genuinely likes you, it usually will eventually. If the girl is a virgin, it could be a year before she is ready. On the other hand, when I was early forties, I met a 20-year-old university student who had experienced a bust up with her conservative, but well off, Northern Thai family. She seemed shy (had never had a boyfriend) but quickly bonded with me as someone who could support her emotionally at a bad time. We ended up in bed together for the first time within a week of meeting each other. Try to meet several nice middle class girls, and see how things develop.
One downside with a regular girlfriend is that there can be very strong emotional attachments. It can be tough if, for any reason, you or your girlfriend needs to end the relationship. With a mia chao, a parting gift of money is usually all that is needed.
Being handsome, and not old, helps in attracting Thai girls. Even more important is looking smart: well groomed and well dressed. A girl likes to feel that she is with a classy looking guy, not embarrassed to be seen with him. Speaking Thai is helpful, even with educated, middle class girls. Their English is often pretty basic.
All the above represents generalisations. I have seen many exceptions.
Already in my fifties, a couple of times I entered a go-go bar and had a good time talking with a vivacious, entertaining 25-yesr-old dancer. She could tell I liked her, and seemed disappointed that I did not barfine her (I almost never do). I remember in Bangkok when I used to go drink down a little street in Ratchada and this pretty nice thing (early 30s, me being about 27) one day said, James, I want to sponsor you! (ie. In all honesty, in Thailand you can either buy company and affection, or for the most part, you're just as lonely as in the west, if not worst!; is that a true statement, a good subject for a good follow up video.

Was there in April for 30 days shagged 30 plus different ladies almost all had some mug from a western country believing there in a relationship and sending money .. This is spot on with the expected costs of a Thai GF or wife in any setting. You have to cover the family payment, which is not that much if your girl is fair. 10-20K baht per month, anything more is up to you. It is a little payment that goes a long way, Thai society doesn't have social welfare, they're ruled by a corrupt and selfish elite, social welfare is totally private and relies on family, if you want to join a Thai family, there is a responsibility you have to be willing to shoulder.

The first time I was in Thailand was in 1989, and I learned very early that a full-time Thai girlfriend is a waste and a Thai wife will only disappoint in the long run. Either way, her family will always be the problem because of the high, never-ending cost. So if you all want regular sex (once or twice a week), take common sense precautions, and you will have no problem finding excellent service for a fraction of the price of a full-time girlfriend. You might get lucky and find an excellent regular service provider for a few months or even a year. If you are fortunate, you will find a great little hole in the wall with reasonable prices for good food and drink with great company, and if you are truly lucky, they may even remember your name and greet you with genuine appreciation. All along, your life will be blessed while you save loads of money and avoid unnecessary drama. (Just a different perspective, honed over the decades from experience and observation.) 🙂

I think that if you consider the relationships that he describes as similar to sugar daddy relationships, then it's more understandable.
It ties in nicely with the host bars. The Thai attitude to s3x attracts many people from around the world because it is so open. But it's also monetized. That's whether you're looking at ST or gik or long term companionship; gay, straight, or (in the case of the host bars) f2m. It has a value and that value is whatever an individual is prepared to pay!

Interesting stories, I did enjoy it, thanks. :) Have had a couple of Isaan relationships in the past few years, not bar girls. Both were expecting support in the area of 15000 salary or more, plus occasional large bills, total approx 25,000/mo. They definitely expect financial help. I say "or more" because there is near constant pressure from them to keep buying them things. And they never really asked for things that didn't seem reasonable, it was just that they don't have much to start with. No furniture nor real kitchen appliances, computer, old phones, etc. It all adds up, not cheap over time.
If they didn't have those things before you getting in a relationship with them, why do they need them now suddenly? Stand your ground and say no...MANY more Isaan girls who would be ecstatic dating a good farang who simply pays the bills.

You are making me expert at things I will most likely never need to be expert at. But it also reveals some things about human nature, cultural differences, and other things. We never know what the future brings. Having knowledge and skills about another option is never a bad thing. I've made it to 66 without ever having a situation anything like a transaction with a bar girl, or paying a woman a salary to quit her job.
Where I live (USA) I've never found it too difficult to find a relationship as frivolous or serious as I wish. As you move up the scale of seriousness and happiness, it does require more work to find, more self discipline to not lower your standards, and more effort to build the relationship you both want, sort out how to deal with differences, etc. So, I fully understand when people choose to just go for casual fun, somewhere that it is the norm, and even easier to find than at home. The main difference is that at home, the age/2 + 7 thing lands you squarely in the lap of gold diggers, much more so than it appears to be the case in Thailand. Luckily, I actually prefer women around my own age, as long as they are in great shape. Admittedly, that eliminates 95-99% of women my age. Yet, if you're the right guy for them, that makes you 99th percentile also, when most desirable guys are looking for younger.
It is pretty interesting how in any one relationship, the pairing seems unpredictable. But over large numbers of people, the patterns are very predictable. Sometimes you can find a gem by bucking a trend, other times you simply have to see what sort of partner you're still capable of attracting.
Paying avoids those worries, but also takes away your motivation to be a desirable mate, who is valuable to a woman for reasons other than money. Attracting a woman, versus just shopping for one, is a large part of the fun for me. When we want and accept each other, it feels like we've accomplished something worthwhile, and it feels like the work of the search paid off, as well as having experienced some good luck.

I thought I would add another comment since I was musing your story about the Bar Host Club, well a Norweigian male friend of mine talked one time about a bar near where he worked in Bangkok, where Thai ladies who were a little more mature (30 plus) would go to pick up foreign men, wealthy ladies who pay for everything you can imagine! I cannot remember exactly the name of the Bar on Sukhumvit, but It is not far from Nana! When I made my first trip to Thailand, I met the daughter of a top Thai Army General and she gave me no chance to pay any bills, she had a chauffeur who took us all around Bangkok! I worried about getting involved with her as you can imagine, but I was obliged to remain with her the whole day and could not escape easily! You might imagine this was heaven, but far from it with her being extremely demanding and trying to be dominant because of her position and hi so status!
A friend of mine, Bangladeshi guy, now one of the top people on their cricket board, got picked up by a rolls Royce in Bangkok about 40 years ago. The middle aged Thai woman took him to one of the drive in sex places and gave him the sex of his life. These are where you park your car and have a room adjacent.

I love Thailand and Thai culture. So much so that my hobby is learning to speak Thai. I speak and understand well enough that over the phone with a Thai stranger I am often asked if I am Thai myself. Which I am not. I am American. BUT, for the reasons you enumerate in this video I chose a Filipina woman and reside in the Philippines. It is dsifficult for me to imagine how to have a normal (non monetary) relationship with a Thai girl.

One thing to remember is 60% of bar girls are not happy with what they do and are not happy with their lives. Alot of the girls are sent by very poor families to work the bars.

Another good video explaining things for the inexperienced and uneducated guys. Over the years I often get guys asking me about price, and some of them just don't get the negotiation that goes on. They just think there is set prices. When I was 25 years younger I used to get young and especially older attractive women (30"s) throwing themselves at me and I had even been offered money to stay a night with them, most guys don't believe that. One of my ex-wife's Aunties owned a boy bar in Bangkok and she invited me to come down a few times to hang out there for the night, it would of been fun because they were seriously rich women going to her bar, but my ex-wife wouldn't let me go for some reason :) Anyway, I always tell guys to present themselves well and watch their manners and they would be a better chance at getting a nicer looking girl to go with them and possibly get a better deal.

Of course she isn't going to work in a bar anymore only because you're now supporting her and her family. I understand the dynamic of having a 'girlfriend' in Thailand and while I certainly feel that as a 'less than perfect male specimen' at 68 years old, paying for a girl regardless doesn't appeal to me. Here in the Philippines, I know many older men who have girlfriends who are much younger than them. no relationship is perfect, but none of them pay a 'salary'. That's not to say they don't end up getting a lot of perks, gifts, free rent with the old guy etc., but it's a hella lot less mercenary in the Philippines than it is in Thailand. Or seems. And that half your age plus seven is a standard in French culture for a mistress.

This is really educational, I'd heard some people complain a lot about their Thai girlfriend/wife asking for money. But, since there is always an option not to be with them, I think it's fair to say that there's nothing wrong with that, we really cannot blame them for making their living, besides, they also have relatives who depends on them, for their daily food, kids school fees, etc. I always wonder are we judging them harshly, would we be really better than them if our situation have been reverse. @@CZAR- This video doesn't go into it but there are actually a lot of Thai women that have normal jobs and take care of themselves. They don't all need or want a man to pay her a salary just to date them or to support her family. Of course if you are 60+ and morbidly obese those girls that are going to charge you might be your only option. But I follow a lot of other Thailand channels where the guys in them have regular Thai girlfriends that are not bar girls who are not nickle and dimming them to pay for every little thing. These girls have their own jobs and their own money and they are just excited to date Western guys because to them we are exotic and Western guys treat their girls a lot better then the local guys do.

After my first visit I fell in to the trap of having a freelancer for a supposed girlfriend and as she told me in order to continue with her she needed to repay her 100k debt and needed 10k a month to stay at home and be a good loyal woman. Her 45 and me 65, she leased a pickup with her son the driver and went and sold fruit from the back in her Isaan area. Then I discovered they bought the pickup over a 7 year loan which I ended up paying for over 2.5 years. Had 4 holidays with her but with covid coming the relationship finished after 5 years as I did not have that extra job anymore. Last month I found out in the background was a Thai boyfriend her age for the last 10 years but she carried on looking for rich farangs because he could not earn enough in construction to keep her love of money.

Yep. Let a Filipina move in with me in the US that I met in the US. She was very sweet at first. Almost married her. Then the drama started. I was making sacrifices & adding stress to myself while she sent most all of her paycheck to her family in Philippines. She never did contribute financially to our home. Wouldnt even help with gas $ while I drove her to & from her job every day. Had my own job to go to. I do miss her but not wanting to be responsible for people on other side of world I don't even know.

I was in Pattaya back in 2013 for my first time. However I did a lot of research for a month before going there and knew what not to do. I stayed away from the bar girls. I found a 37 year old woman who spoke fluent English and was an only child whos parents were dead. She was raised by a German man who she called father. We agreed on arrangements where she stayed with me in my hotel and she handled all the travel arrangements. I was there for a month. We toured Thailand, many islands and Cambodia. I paid for everything and gave her 40,000 bot and a Gold chain with a charm on it at the end of my stay. She was fantastic and we had a great time. I fell in love with her but knew it was just a dream that would never happen as she told me up front what she does.
However a friend of mine in his late 50's went to Thailand several years ago and he got taken by a Thai girl who took him for a ton of money then dumped him. He bought her a House, a car, clothes gave her a ton of cash and when she could get no more money she dumped him. He was on his way home back to the united states and had a heart attack on the plain and died.
The truth about any country and most girls is it is all about the money. Does not matter if it is Vegas, Thailand, Cambodia, Costa Rica or any other place, most of them are all the same. The only way to find a real good girl is not in a bar or on the street but at her place of work, super market or through a friend who introduces you to her. Then there is the rare chance you just run into a good girl somewhere where you least expect it. This happened to me several times but at that time I was not in a position to take advantage of the situation.
Currently I am thinking about moving to Thailand as an expat.

yup, that's the way to do it, I've done this, both way online and making friends on the island. It's really the best way... since, you are basically getting expert local advice, and friendship of a woman on the side with no strings attached... Just have to be aware of the scams and what to look for if one goes this route. And NEVER ever fall in love with one over the net, then start sending over cash. Always come and meet them before opening up your wallet. If they can't wait and or give some excuse why you need to send money, move on.... I've heard of people falling for a girl and losing their entire retirement savings. Don't be like that guy. If you really want to learn the ins and outs, listen to The Filipina Pea (search on youtube). Yeah, I know Philippines isn't Thailand but the scams are all the same. She has excellent advice for anyone looking for a woman in any SE Asia country.

It was very informative especially about the 'barhost' club for Thai women. Watching the videos of Walking street etc. I always wondered where all the Thai men are. And the girls do help their families which is admirable.
