I love the upper salt. Lots of commercial outfitters run it during the spring so there’s a good amount of people out there when the flows are up. I highly recommend this run 🤙😎
Looks like a gnarly run, I just got into the sport and I am currently learning how to roll. Got a piranha Machno, and I love it so far! Been looking at lots of spots in az online that look like theyd be fun to hit. There are not a lot of places to easily connect with other kayakers in the phx area. If you still paddle and see this message and know how to connect with ppl in az hmu!
It’s a great run. I’m always willing to connect with people in the sport. There’s a group of us. My buddy teaches how to roll at his house. He taught me. If you’re interested, email me at followingrj@gmail.com.
Yeah totally. I would shop around for a used boat. Get yourself a quality helmet, pfd, spray skirt and paddle. Best thing to do is to learn the basics first and a good place to start is learning how to roll. I have a buddy who teaches how to roll. Really good guy, he can teach you the fundamentals and from there you can meet other boaters.
I never would have thought Arizona had whitewater. Is there other rivers? I'm from the East coast. Also, so how's the Scorch - thinking of buying one. You got spun once - how's the edge control?
Lots of other rivers and creeks in Arizona, the challenge is catching them when they’re glowing which is mostly winter run off and monsoon season, we do not get lots of water like the east coast. As far as the scorch is concerned, this was my first time running it on bigger water and I freakin love it. The edges are grabby but that’s to be eclectic with his aggressive they are, very good primary and secondary stability though.
@@followingrj I'm curious - what did you paddle before? I' m in a LL Remix - virtually no edges whatsoever. I'm sure the Scorch will have quite an adjustment period. How does it roll? Be safe out there.
@@cheskybaba4864 I started in an antix 2.0 (which I still currently own) so I’m used to aggressive edges. As far as rolling it, I find it to be super easy because of the secondary stability, once you roll halfway up, that secondary stability kicks in and you’re pretty much back up.
@@cheskybaba4864 right on, if you pick up the scorch coming from soft edges it’ll be a learning curve I’m sure but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. However, since you’re on the east coast and you have soft edges, I hear that’s better for the manky runs you guys have out that way because the edges don’t get hung up on rocks, doesn’t mean you can’t run those in the scorch though cause lots of kayakers are out there I’m sure.
That's so dangerous but peaceful...have too know what your doing...good job bro..I'm stoked
So fun 🤙🤙🤙
That looked like a good workout, fun, nothing too insane. I've been meaning to go rafting there, maybe next spring...

That's legit right there! What a blast!
So fun
haha.. I went the weekend after! I have a scorch too!!
Awesome man, the scorch does soooo good on this river. I freakin love it
@@followingrj for real!! You going again before the flows drop too low? I'm trying for this coming weekend if possible
@@cryptot3ch dude I totally want to but I’m not sure. I need to. Do you ever hit it on Sundays?

So fun 😎🙌
Awesome video. I live in AZ and I am trying to get into whitewater kayaking. Any advice on gear and how to connect with other kayakers?

The Upper ? Did you put in at the bridge ? The " UPPER" would be the remote canyon
Right below the bridge after baptism rapid but just before kiss & tell.
The wilderness section runs below the day run. Upper is referred to as that whole stretch of river.
