Suggestion…get a Mr. Heater Blue Flame ventless propane wall mounted heater and a 100lb tank. Kicks out 30k BTU and for as often as you’ll need the heat down there it’s unlikely you’ll need more than one fill per year. Run the heat pump if necessary when it gets that cold just to keep things from freezing but use the propane to warm the place when you’re at the house. More comfy heat and less expensive than a heat pump trying to get you up to 70°. Good luck. Happy New Year!

Not an expert here but I do have a heat pump and I have some experience in their operation unless you have a super high eiffeicency unit like 20+ seer it will not provide heat below 32* at temps like we have seen in the past few days you must have a backup system,in your area probably electric heat it doesn't matter what you do with new t stats or the heat pump it cannot heat the home at extremely low temps . I would have an HVAC tech come out and they should be able to figure it out.

Heat pump don't work when temps are below freezing that's why you need auxiliary heat. It reverses outside air and when it's to cold it won't get it warm enough.Heat pumps are worthless in extreme cold if you don't have auxiliary heat.

Somewhere in your house they should be a unit where you change out your filters that should be ware of fan is at should be on to be blowing air through the house the fan outside on the machine has nothing to do with the heat in the house that fan helps the coils outside there's another fan another unit inside the house in a closet baby it's in there where your laundry rooms at that there is where your heat comes in at look in there and see if that is on if not then you may have it wired wrong as one of the other people told you

I believe with a heat pump, if I understand your setup correctly, the heat pump will only give you a temperature difference within so many degrees. They are good for cool temps but not cold temps. My father's house in Virginia had a heat pump AND radiator heat as well for main heating. Plus, it's going to take a while for the duct work to warm up. Since it's been cold for a bit.

Those thermostats are overly complicated to fix without a manual. But, that thing is just sending a signal, all the beef is down there.

We lived in the mountains of West Virginia and sometimes the power goes off for days at a time. So one year we got a lot of snow and the power was off for 14 days and our pellet stove wouldn't would without electricity, for some reason we could not find any wood or coal stoves too. We had 3 large dogs and a king size bed so at night when it was the coldest we would we put a dog on both sides of us a nd one in the middle and we covered up with 3 heavy quilts so we wouldn't freeze to death. We were snowed for for about 9 days. We cooked outdoors outdoors coffee and warm meals for us and our dogs. That's one year we will never forget. We lived in a mobile home then and we were blessed our pipes never froze to 10 years we lived there. Now we live in a home higher up. There's alot bears, Panthers, deers, and a lot more wildlife.

Red is 24v ac power coming in. The thermostat works by connecting the output wires to the 24v source
    Outputs...
    Green is fan
    Yellow is cooling
White is heat ..in your case probably the aux heat
Orange is the heat pump heat
You can short individual wires to the 24v source (red) to test the functions without relying on thermostat
check functions on unit first. You can check the save functions at the indoor unit as well
    White is

How cold did it get down there ?

  • @bchrisl1491
    @bchrisl1491 Год назад

LOL, that was hard to listen to.
One thing to do is clean those leaves away from around the outside.
The outside unit blows air across the radiator absorbing heat( believe it there is heat in that cold air) and the leaves block sone of that air reducing the efficiency of the unit.
Also change the filter inside. It fills up with dirt if it is doing its job an reduces the amount of air blowing across the coils that make the heat in winter. The unit runs longer and doesn’t heat as well and costs more in electricity.
CALL A TECH ! who can check not only the system for leaks(which must be fixed if you have any before you charge the system) he or she can check the inside air handler and make sure all your thermostat wires are correct on both sides of the unit. The inside coils are notorious for developing tiny pinholes from vibration, and the corrosive effects of the water condensation in summer, that leak very slowly over time and fade away over time, not all at once. They have detectors that can sniff out these leaks.
Have him or her check the inside coils to make sure they aren’t clogged with dust or mold. This restricts air flow as much has a dirty filter. (Don’t use those cheap blue filters. They don’t filter much of anything and can lead to the coils clogging up.)They have a solution for cleaning this
Also check the emergency (AUX) heat unit. It should have come on when you selected it on the video and you would have felt warm air almost instantly and a little smell from the dust on the coils for a few seconds. That didn’t happen when you went to emergency(AUX) heat.
Maybe crowd sourced HVAC troubleshooting is not the way to go? I got the feeling you were herding cats with everybody offering suggestion at the same time. You got to love them all, but too many cooks spoil the broth.😁
Do a google search for the standard thermostat wiring diagrams. it is simple and straight forward to understand.
Next time, bring your temperature meter from the truck and measure the air temps coming out of the registers and write them down somewhere when the unit is back to working normally. (you can do this with any type of thermometer).
Good luck I hope you get the unit up and running soon.
    Chris

The thermostat is wired wrong. Heat pump is wired to the bottom. You have it wired to conventional. Not HvAC tech, just contractor but I think that's correct. Unit has a heat strip and possibly an emergency heat strip. The heat pump extracts heat from the environment and blows that across the heat strip.

Jessie was like why is the Air Condition System not on the window when she got home. And she was like how is it cool in here when she walked in. And the kid's said ask Jesse. And she was happy seeing her new heater and air conditioner system. We still have the gas mounted wall heater's in our bedroom and down the hallway and also in the living room. And they keep us warm if the power goes out. Jessie was like why did'nt u take them out. And i said hell if the power goes out we will be freezing. She was like that's good u did'nt take them out. When it's cooler we will have a fireplace installed on the side of the house. Jessie always wanted one at the area where she wants it.
