Taemin..my Ult of all kpop Ults. He did most of his solo career when the other 3 Shinee members were in the military! He was also in Super M during this time...you should check that groups videos out!
The thing with Taemin is that his biggest dream was to become a solo artist, since he was a kid. With that in mind he auditioned for SM and started his training at the age of 12 (!) Only then he found out he wouldn’t debut as a solo act, cause that was not SM’s thing back then - to debut solo artists. He started his career in SHINee instead (as one of the youngest idols to ever debut) and SHINee became his safe place and home, BUT he never abandoned his biggest dream… Thankfully SM quickly realized his immense potential and organized his solo debut when he was only 21, with smashing hit - Danger. The rest is history. Taemin took this opportunity super seriously and showed his full potential and absolute star quality with a very strong debut and he’s been getting better and better ever since. I truly hope you check out all of his title tracks, since Danger, through Press Your Number, Drip Drop, Move and Want. There’s also Thirsty, which is incredible and the whole Japanese discography with Sayonara Hitori, Flame Of Love, Under My Skin and Famous. Taemin’s voice, just as his dancing, is absolutely amazing and his solo concerts are simply out of this world! (He’s had more than 60 solo shows up until today). Just so you know, the Taemin you see in the "Criminal" MV isn't really the criminal in the song. He is the victim who is being held captive by the criminal. I see the "criminal" as represented by the lover (i.e the other side of him) that he is singing about, which is a metaphor for the pressure he feels under as a Kpop idol. The song is about living in a toxic relationship and being brainwashed by a lover. He has now fallen in love with the person (or thing -- i.e. his career) who is inflicting all the pain and suffering on him, so now he accepts the abuse as a normal part of the relationship. Even though he is being abused by that person -- possibly a metaphor for the pressure he is creating for himself with the need to always be the best in everything he does -- he can't help but love them and allow them to continue to hurt him, etc. All the abuse is happening to him, he is not hurting anyone else or doing anything criminal himself. Therefore, the story isn't about Taemin being a criminal. Notice, the S.W.A.T. team isn't arresting him. They pretty much walk right past Taemin and ignore him as they search for the criminal. The "boss" vibe is a facade he puts on to make people believe he is in control, but as you see in the choreography, he is being manipulated by all the outside forces around him. For example, we see him lying across the backup dancers backs and they pick him up and manipulate him to do what they want him to do at that moment. A lot of his dance moves are designed to make him look like a marionette puppet that is being pulled around by strings and being told what to do. He is the one inflicting the pain and suffering on himself as he pushes himself to reach that impossible goal of perfection. However, because the song compares what he has gone through to stockholm syndrome, the wordplay in the lyrics are also saying there is an outside force which could also be interpreted as a lover or criminal. His career is the criminal and lover that is causing him the pain and he is allowing it to manipulate him to the point where it almost destroys him. However, he has fallen in love with his career now, so he is willing to endure the pain in order to feel the pleasure of the end result and love of fans, etc.

Everything Taemin produced as solo artist from his solo debut in 2014 at age of 21 till today is as top notch quality, his solo discography is as versatile and iconic as one of legendary Shinee where he IS a member till today! Many people think that MJ is the biggest influence to Taemin, but according to Taemin himself his biggest inspiration and influence are Shinee members, he joined the group at age of 14, so Shinee members basically raised him, and let me tell you when you are raised by 4 vocal and visual geniuses like Shinee members, the result you get is an atomic bomb called Taemin, he was like a sponge absorbing best qualities from each member. For example Shinee Jonghyun (hands down the best vocalist in kpop history till today) spent countless hours with Taemin in early days vocally mentoring him, thus you can often hear Jonghyun vocal footprint in Taemin lives, and hear Taemin covering most of Jonghyun's iconic parts in Shinee live concerts. I haven’t seen a lot of groups where members will go solo AFTER a group disbands (except for them tv show groups). Actually members almost always have a solo even while the group is still under contract. They can release solo music, do solo projects like acting musicals, variety shows, modeling etc. mad they do this in the comfort of having their group to fall back on if it fails. That’s something companies will want to push for if they predict the member will be successful because that will attract attention to the group as well. It also works the other way. The group’s fandom can also push the success of an individual member in a certain project. But basically at the beginning of a solo project you want the exposure and security that having a group gives.
TAEMIN Criminal came out long before GOT7 JACKSON’s Cruel. Also BTS is still a group, but after celebrating their 9th anniversary back in June they decided it was time to take a temporarily extended break from group activities/promotions to focus more on their solo music and individual style, they are still under BIGHIT MUSIC/HYBE

Taemin has sacrificed everything to become the magnificent and unique performer and person that we know him as today.
But there really is no one that pushes him or holds him to a higher standard then himself. Taemin has said that he really has never taken a true vacation since he was a trainee -- he started with SM Entertainment when he was around 11 years old -- and he doesn't know what to do if he isn't constantly working and training. As he has said, there has never been anything that has come easy to him, and he has only gotten to where he is today because he has worked hard to accomplish everything. He is constantly pushing himself to become the best of the best in everything he does.
All of Taemin's dances tell a story. As he has said, he specifically designs his choreography to be a part of the story within the song and MV. So, "Criminal" is supposed to be slightly creepy, as well as sexy. He is literally being abused and asking you to please "destroy me more."
As a member of SHINee, Taemin has trained his entire career to be able to pull off this type of intense and intricate dancing while singing live and always sounding flawless the whole time. That is what SHINee are known for. So not only is Taemin an amazing dancer, but he is also one of the best singers in the industry, and his group SHINee make up one of the top groups, that everyone looks up to and dreams of even coming close to being as good as.
If you are impressed with Taemin's dancing, not only should you see his live performance, but just wait until you see his dance practice video for "Criminal." You will be even more blown away.

@@Reny2408 Technically you are right. As I explain, the whole song is a metaphor for what he has been dealing with in his career. He is the one inflicting the pain and suffering on himself as he pushes himself to reach that impossible goal of perfection.
However, because the song compares what he has gone through to stockholm syndrome, the wordplay in the lyrics are also saying there is an outside force which could also be interpreted as a lover or criminal.
His career is the criminal and lover that is causing him the pain and he is allowing it to manipulate him to the point where it almost destroys him. However, he has fallen in love with his career now, so he is willing to endure the pain in order to feel the pleasure of the end result and love of fans, etc.

Everything Taemin produced as solo artist from his solo debut in 2014 at age of 21 till today is as top notch quality, his solo discography is as versatile and iconic as one of legendary Shinee where he IS a member till today! Many people think that MJ is the biggest influence to Taemin, but according to Taemin himself his biggest inspiration and influence are Shinee members, he joined the group at age of 14, so Shinee members basically raised him, and let me tell you when you are raised by 4 vocal and visual geniuses like Shinee members, the result you get is an atomic bomb called Taemin, he was like a sponge absorbing best qualities from each member. For example Shinee Jonghyun (hands down the best vocalist in kpop history till today) spent countless hours with Taemin in early days vocally mentoring him, thus you can often hear Jonghyun vocal footprint in Taemin lives, and hear Taemin covering most of Jonghyun's iconic parts in Shinee live concerts. I haven’t seen a lot of groups where members will go solo AFTER a group disbands (except for them tv show groups). Actually members almost always have a solo even while the group is still under contract. They can release solo music, do solo projects like acting musicals, variety shows, modeling etc. mad they do this in the comfort of having their group to fall back on if it fails. That’s something companies will want to push for if they predict the member will be successful because that will attract attention to the group as well. It also works the other way. The group’s fandom can also push the success of an individual member in a certain project. But basically at the beginning of a solo project you want the exposure and security that having a group gives.

TAEMIN Criminal came out long before GOT7 JACKSON’s Cruel. Also BTS is still a group, but after celebrating their 9th anniversary back in June they decided it was time to take a temporarily extended break from group activities/promotions to focus more on their solo music and individual style, they are still under BIGHIT MUSIC/HYBE
8:58 the end of the song, from here, the choreo is FULL of Michael Jackson moves. But there's MJ stuff throughout the entire song, mostly in every chorus. Especially the thing he does before the double heel spin (in the MV you see him do only 1 spin but in the actual choreo he does 2 spins) Almost everything here is Michael Jackson.
