Same, I got really impressed when I saw the dream scenes. It's not very diferent as real dreams. What is more impressive is that no other show or film got as acurate as the Sopranos.
This is the only time I've seen dreams represented the way I have them. It always starts kind of ordinary, then something weird will happen like I'll be driving my car from the rear seats with no reverse, and yet I'll just be mildly upset about it.
I grew up in New Jersey. The thing is, if you visit the shore in the winter, it is surreal like this. Nobody around, everything's empty. Just you and the sounds of the waves hitting the shoreline.
Same with Ocean City, MD. Place was a ghost town in the fall time, never went back cause it was creepy as hell. Can’t imagine how the pilgrims felt in the heart of winter landing in a place like that.

There's a word for the feeling of dread you experience when you're in an area that's supposed to be populated, but isn't, like a school or a stadium or something. I forget it though. But the use of the boardwalk to get this feeling (since it's typically populated by families, happy people, etc. during the spring/summer) gives it that vibe of "oh fuck, this ain't right".
David was able to perfectly encapsulate the awkwardness and helplessness of our dreams. The "fever dreams" were the magnum opus. Anybody who's been sick to this degree knows the oddball kooky dreams we can conjure. Brilliant writing and acting.

They nailed the "dreamy" aspect of a dream... like the shit you're doing and seeing is all just a synthesis of your brain. You can't create anything new, just pile together stuff you've already seen. These people aren't the real people, they're your brain's interpretation of them. John Darnielle (a wise man) said it best: "You can get really good reads on your dreams if you think of every character in them as actually being you."

I had to stop thinking of it as a sopranos prequel, and think of it instead as a story being told about a certain event (the Newark riots) through the context of these amazingly well written, well developed characters that we know and love. I was able to appreciate and enjoy it a lot more when I thought about it this way. Give it a try.

Pussy was working for the Feds and betraying Tony, but it was Paulie who would be Tony’s most fatal betrayer at a later time. Notice how it was Paulie that Toney immediately saw in the station afterwards through the telescope. Toney deep down knew he needed to get rid of Paulie at some point.
Well maybe? Certainly tony subconsciously feels that Paulie can’t be trusted. I mean have you met paulie? And tony does have a good grasp of what selfish ppl are like at times. But Sopranos Autopsy website says that Silvio meant Pussy. But that’s the thing sopranos gives you multiple answers. I do agree that paulie was perhaps the enemy. Why? Well I suspect greatly that Paulie was among the one who helped kill Tony in the final season. Without him, the plan to kill tony dosnt go thru. The fever dream is so authentic. See, unlike normal dreams, its blurry and forgettable. But fever dreams, Jesus Christ it was top of the shelf. Being awake with a fever already makes you fucked up in the head. Having that in a dream is dipping your toes to the underworld. I had a fever of 40 degrees celcius. I slept for 10 hours woke up shocked 4 times. Everytime I sleep it was a whole new fucking nightmare. And the ringing, jesus christ the ringing.

I grew up in Atlantic City and moved away 30 years ago and I still have dreams about the boardwalk. It was magical as a kid in the 70’s. Tony grew up going to the boards in Asbury and it was his favorite place.
I realize now in the dream about the winter: Season 6 ends in the winter, the warning about capping Paulie, the warning about Puss being silent in their talks, or not there for important things, Junior in the window looking threatening, the reminder that Patsy has a grudge due to his brother. It is all warning him about the events of Season 6. It's pretty insane well thought out this was.
Go to the jersey shore during the winter off season and this is exactly what you’ll see in certain sections. No one around for miles. That’s the only thing I miss ever since I moved away from NJ
