    GR8 as always Dave.
    Let’s get the Halas 57 flag ship against the Amel 60 and Oyster 595, you can through in the Garcia Exploration 60 if you like. The world will be surprised at the top of the line comparison.
    Not a knock against Jean/Bene/Duf but they are different beasts in two major categories.
    1.Hull and deck layup.
    W.Standing running rigging and sail control hardware.
    This is not critical just to see the actual value in the Hylas, as you point out $1m less than Oyster⛵️

      Wouldnt there be a huge price differential though with the other boats you mention - arent they more serious Bluewater boats and hence $1mio >> - ??

    Found this channel today - omg - its superb - absolutely love the depth of research and commentary. I am hoping to do the same - mine is to convince Jennifer - have no sailing experience only motor - but will have a budget arond $1.5-$2 mio - speed will not be important as its the journey not the destination for me - I think however with SWMBO the key to it getting off the ground then a cat is a far easier sell - do you have a similar video for cats and if not any recommendations - if it wasnt a cat I think I would be very drawn to the Hylas as a 'ticks' all boxes

      Hey Nick. Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you're enjoying the depth of research and commentary on the channel. It's always great to hear that the content resonates with viewers. As for your sailing plans, it sounds like an exciting journey you're embarking on. My channel is mostly about cats. You just found one of the few monohull episodes Lol! I have around 40+ and counting, so binge-watch to your heart's content!

    This data is too good for RUclips videos. You are well on the way to making a better version of sailboat comparison data.

    I do think that having heads at the prow is a much better use of space than a claustrophobic V-berth.

      Ahhh but Rodrifuu, did you see the size of that forward v-berth. Nothing cramped there my friend.

  • @constantinealexandrakis

    Very roomy and well designed boat. Looks like a cross between the old Moody and the new DS Moody boats designed by Dixon. Part of the extra room seems to come from sacrificing berths. For example, Oyster 595 and 565 have a cabin with bunk beds as well as a pilot birth in a work area with space for spares and/or washer. Hylas only has that third small cabin. didn't see space for spares or washer. I also wonder if they sacrificed engine room space. Having more berths is not necessarily crucial for circumnavigation but spares, washer and easy access and spacious engine room are, IMHO. As far as comparisons go, i would probably go for the discovery 55 saxon blue, available through Berthon, for less than $700K.

    • @navalgazingatcampdavid
      @navalgazingatcampdavid  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Constantine. There was a washer/dtyer onboard. I believe it was under that single berth. I'm going to have a look at Saxon Blue right now. Thanks for watching!

      @navalgazingatcampdavid Hi Dave, watch the RUclips video by Berthon. It's a 2009 but IMO still a lot of boat for the money. Let me know what you think. If I had aside 700k for a boat, that's what I would get.

    • @navalgazingatcampdavid
      @navalgazingatcampdavid  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hi John. I add 50%. In all the price lists I have manually optioned out, this figure holds true 90%+ of the time. There are exceptions like Xquisite, who load their boats with standard features, but overall, it proves out true. D

    Beautiful yacht but in my honest opinion a blue water cruiser that crosses oceans shouldn’t have unprotected twin rudders. That’s just a disaster waiting to happen. To me a blue water cruiser the rudder is skeg hung inline with the keel. Get the blue water 56 or an older Amel. Want something bigger try and get your hands on a Hallberg Ramsey 64.

    • @navalgazingatcampdavid
      @navalgazingatcampdavid  9 месяцев назад

      Thanks John. I will be digging into your recommendations and the skeg hung rudder. Never really thought of it, especially with twin rudders all the rage, but your comment makes sense. Thanks.

    • @johnmagnan759
      @johnmagnan759 9 месяцев назад

      @@navalgazingatcampdavid Twin rudders are a pretty new thing in the cruising world. I think it was the mid to late 90's when Beneteau introduced a hybrid racing/cruising sailboat. Then the what I call triangle hull was born. Bring max beam of the boat all the way aft. Great concept for maximizing space above and below decks. Makes a great party boat. But think about it. That wide open deck in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean when she's throwing one her notorious fits. Big wave over the deck and you will be washed over the side unless you are clipped in. True blue water sailboats have a cockpit like a bathtub. Just depends on what kind of sailing you are going to do. U.S. to the Bahamas and Caribbean. This hylas 57 will do you fine. Making the "Milk Run" from the left coast to the Marquesas islands or crossing the Pond to the Med. Not a chance in hell on the 57. Not me anyway.

    I am all about the magnificence of Hylas Yachts, but what is with the ski boat windshield? That is just wrong. A proper "ya chet" needs a proper dodger from deck to the overhead bimini. Otherwise, wind, spray, rain and breaking waves will inundate the cockpit, crew and instruments through this nonsensical gap. You know that. Why in the world would Hylas even allow this silliness to be an option on its yachts?
    Oh my deity. Who are you? Do you know nothing about sailing on anything bigger than a small lake? First you note that this hard top seems to be too long, as opposed to some lesser boat's overhead in that the other boat had a shorter hard top with an extendable soft top to cover the helm stations, but then you complain that you would not want that soft top deployed in heavy weather. Agreed! So why did you complain in the first place? Any actual sailor, with an IQ over 80, knows that the helm station(s) MUST be properly sheltered so the boat can be properly, thus safely, sailed in all conditions! Hylas has a very useful solution to keeping the otherwise exposed helmspeople protected during inclement weather. What's your point? P. S. The extended hard top provides more space for those valuable solar panels or did you not notice?

    • @navalgazingatcampdavid
      @navalgazingatcampdavid  7 месяцев назад

      Hey Greg. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. Apologies for being unclear in my meaning. Re the hardtop, what I mean is that Hylas has either a long, solid top, which restricts your view of the sails or a short top with a retractable canvas extender that you could not deploy over the helm in heavy weather. The design used by other manufacturers has a combination of the two with a solid area forward and two side pieces extending back over the helm. The open area, between the two side sections has a heavy duty retractable Bimini canvas that can be quickly deployed for shade or shelter and is strong enough for heavy weather. When it is not needed, you can slide it away for an unfettered view of your sail plan. Thanks again for watching. D

      @TheCorsair Not sure about the hull comparisons but, no dorade ventilation, thus woe be them who must sleep and work below decks when (not if) the AC fails. Square cornered IKEA level cabinetry. Ick. I much prefer the previous warm polished wooden nautical interior. For this price, I want a yacht, not a mid-grade motel room. And Beneteau and the other day sailing French builders have been offering the same crappy interiors for less and for much longer. I do not see the new Hylas vessels surviving the market under these conditions.
