I was fortunate to have started and ended my Rolex journey without having to go through the whole song and dance with the ADs, with most of the pieces left on my list readily available at 20-30% discount.
Don't envy those looking to get into the game now, or any time in the last 2-3 years.

Kinda the same, I bought watches for a period between 2007 and 2010, then I stopped, didn't pay attention to it. In fact, last I remembered swiss watches were going out of fashion because apple watch (early 2010s) and then boom lol

The problem with ADs today is that they mostly selling to flippers knowingly, and from my knowledge, a staggering amount of sought after stock goes to the flippers. ADs love to cry foul and pretend to be the victims but they're a key enablers in the whole watch market turning into an experience that has been going downhill for the past 3-5 years.

This podcast is great. I have to share that your first few episodes were not that great as the quality of the guest and their insights / stories weren’t too interesting / insightful.
Adrian did a good job of presenting the reality of the watch journey for new collectors.
Will be interesting to see more guests like him :)
Thought I’d elaborate. It’s nice that he was the collection and rep to lend credibility to his insights.
He is also tactful with his opinion without sugarcoating the need for a two way relationship with ADs.

The goal is to include a variety of people from different walks of life, so not all episodes will be for everyone, unfortunately.

It’s your podcast! You’re free to invite whoever you want.
Although I think many will prefer to see guests with diverse / extensive collections. More interesting than individuals with just a few pieces that also happen to be generic models which doesn’t make for much of a story / talking point.

TLDR: Money talks. If you want nice watches from the ADs, buy some rubbish watches first. If you dont want to waste time and money “pleasing” ADs, just go to the grey market and pay the premium. There is no way around this ☺️

The one in, one out mentality is what I think I should adopt. I think it would make me think twice about buying something, as I really love what I have.
No offence to this chap but buying all the sky dwellers that he doesn't wear, because he has access to a AD, that sounds a bit disengaged from collecting, sounds like he's a hoarder. Plus he collects whisky and champagne, aspirational AF. 🤑

I don’t think there’s any appetite to get new customers. Had a massive milestone in my professional life. Why should I spend $20k on crap when I don’t want that… I know the model I want and also provide assurances around getting another one for my wife…. But no traction and pointed me to the door almost… 😂

Sure, but the struggle of sourcing and verifying exactly what you're looking for is a pain in itself. I want an mk4 1680, but first I need to educate myself on all the visual cues to ensure it is an mk4, then how do I ensure that the movement hasn't been tampered with across the decades of its existence? Here I am, still in the market for one, reluctant to drop $30-40k for the numerous examples listed online.
