The scene that almost ended Gilligan’s Island is not a scene at all but a president being assassinated during filming of the pilot. I feel betrayed at being so terribly misled.
Yes, John Williams scored the original theme, Calypso, to Gilligan’s Island. That said, it was swiftly replaced with the “Sit right back…”theme that the world knows. It was written by George Wyle and Sherwood Schwartz.
It's difficult to feel too much sympathy for Tina Louis and her griping about being typecast. There are tens of thousands of struggling actors out there who never even get a shot - never mind being cast in a hit TV sitcom. If the worst that happened to her is she was typecast, she should be happy with that.
In both the un-aired pilot and the first episode of the series the newscaster on the radio introduced the castaways. Of course the theme song written by John Williams does mention all of the castaways in the second and third seasons. It was the treatise for the concept of Gilligan's Island that Sherwood Schwartz wrote that Gilligan's name was originally supposed to be William Willy Gilligan.

Damn....I'm getting old!

Saw "Gilligan's Island" from '64 at age 18 & like everyone, loved Dawn Wells! However, I could never understand why her career never 'took off' after the show ended! I remember her in small parts before "Gilligan" & a few afterward, but this perennially young actress had to rely on "guest appearances" as Mary Ann, to make a 'living'!
@@rongendron8705 and they probably never paid her enough and I always thought her career would boost into something better but since you mentioned it, I haven't seen her on any other shows that I can remember
Mary Ann was a very common name for girls in the 50s and early 60s, which was the reason for the character's name. By the time this show ended that was on the decline. Also, in less than Hollywood-infatuated times, in contrast to the past few present decades (say, post-1980s), people would have considered naming a child after a Hollywood or TV show character to be 'cheap'. So no, you do not 'know' that.
@@carl5536 Yeah, I agree that I would have loved to have seen her career advance after the show, if for no other reason than that she was cute as pie and sexy as hell in hot pants. Alas, as with her singing ability, her acting skills probably lacked considerably. Unfortunately for you and me that still mattered at least a little back then.
Kinda off topic, but has anyone noticed anything different about the cast of the show currently? I mean...now it seems like EVERYONE has green eyes... except Mr. Howell? Also, Gilligan, seems to wear a tan hat on the show instead of a white hat?
