    It must be very hard to want to love and treasure her but not being able to really interact with her.
    I love animals and I plan on being a vet, but seeing your work makes me consider doing something like this too :)

    SparrowCrazy, thank you for your nice comment. We apprciate your time & concern for the animals. Generally bobcats will do everything they can to avoid human occupied areas. However, sometimes due to habitat destruction or loss of their prey base they will fnd themselves smack in the middle of a human occupied area. It would be a wise precaution to keep pets put up. It is better to be safe than sorry. Bobcats would have to be pretty desparate to come into a human's yard.

    That kitten looks so like a domestic cat, I guess that's why people think they'd make good pets, so beautiful though, keep up the wonderful work. x

    It would be great to expand areas of natural habitat for these cats, but it's not going to happen there's way to many people and not enough room, we can only try and preserve as much as possible. Yep, BigCatRescue*org is where you can find our donations page - thank you!

    The staff is working to locate a cat that can stand in as mother for this baby. The staff is trying very hard to not allow the baby to attach to humans as that would destroy any chances for the animal being released back into the wild when it becomes big enough and strong enough and has become old enough to demonstrate hunting ability for to survive in the wild on its own. Stay tuned or subscribe to our channel as we will post updates on this baby bobcat here. Thank you for caring.

    Like the viewer said below we keep the rehab bobcats in their own enclosure in a quiet secluded area of the sanctuary with absolute minimum involvement of people. We then feed them through a tube system we have set up with live prey so they never know where their dinner is going to appear inside their enclosure, so they learn how to hunt :)

    @wesmartino64 When people call us, they're not necessarily scared, they just don't want the bobcat to get hurt, so we go and check out the situation etc.. Sometimes we get cases of mistaken identity which can be a waste of time, but more often than not when a bobcat can be seen by people something isn't right and we can usually help in some way :)

    This is true northern bobcat can grow large 45lbs or so and can take down full grown deer, I really don't think there have been many cases of man eating bobcats though maybe attacks if they have been cornered or have kittens with them. Its sad that the wild animals are always the ones to suffer form human development and encroachment on their territory.

  • @bigcatrescue
    @bigcatrescue  16 лет назад

    Kakarot20007, yes when they are babies they look cute and cuddly and people do not stop to think that cuteness and cuddliness goes away very quickly and the animal becomes a full grown carnivore with wild tendencies.

  • @bigcatrescue
    @bigcatrescue  14 лет назад

    @DAGONLINUX Yes, but they are too easy to obtain, why are you thinking about owning a bobcat??

  • @bigcatrescue
    @bigcatrescue  15 лет назад

    Hi, breeding bobcats to live in captivity isn't the way to help, if this is what you meant. What we need to do is preserve the habitat for wild cats already out there, if we can't do this i we are in trouble.

    I'm saddened to learn that FL only has about 100 Bobcats, and that in 2007 there were 14 killed.
    Thank you for the work you continue to do, regardless of the difficulty and challenges. One of these daZe I hope to be able to travel in your direction and visit your place in Tampa. Do you know about the tiger sanctuary in Lake City?

    Never underestimate these cats...I chased a northern one out of my chicken coop once. I swear he was bigger than my 40 lb dog! Lucky me, I was not cornering him, just spooking him away. You should never make them feel cornered, all it takes is one well-placed claw swipe to damage you for life.

  • @bigcatrescue

    Big Cat Rescue doesn't breed any of their cats, the bobcats that we have raised from a young age or rehabbed after they were hit by cars have been released back into the wild.

    I have a friend that moved into an exclusive neighborhood in North Georgia. It is very mountainous and the backs of the homes are on stilts since the terrain is so steep. She was so proud of living in the middle of wildlife, bragging about seeing black bears at the bird feeders. Some of the exterior walls are glass. I only visited her once. She was complaining that they were building more homes there, it was to stay wild and beautiful?? I fear for the day when a bear invites itself to dinner!

    That's the problem, these native cats are being pushed out of their natural habitat so they are seen more and more in developed areas and fall victims to cars.

    Sparrocrazy, bobcats prefer to not be around humans or areas where humans are. If a bobcat is coming to visit then please leave it alone. Do not try to feed it, pet it or catch it. You can contact Big Cat Rescue for more details on what to do. When people build homes in areas that are the bobcats' natural habitat there are likely to be sightings. If there is enough nearby wild/natural habitat area with natural prey the bobcats will retreat away from humans and their pets.

    Why don't we have a BigCatRescue here in Canada?

  • @bigcatrescue
    @bigcatrescue  15 лет назад

    Owning a bobcat is a very bad idea, they are expensive to feed, scratch, spray to mark their territory, have expensive vet bills and really don't want to be around you once they are mature. Plus not to mention they are unpredictable and dangerous!

  • @bigcatrescue
    @bigcatrescue  15 лет назад

    They can if they want to, or have nowhere else to go to find prey with all their natural habitat being destroyed.

    The book that I got for my Birthday (Bobcat:Master of survival) said all the things bobcats can get catch or kill a bobcat. By steel leghold traps,body-gripping traps,snares,tracking hoounds,aerial hunting,calling and shooting,spotlight and shooting,cage trap and M-44 which is loaded ejecter and a capsule containting a poisonous mixture.I haskilled a lot of animals.

    This is the way I look at it, and I would be one of the uneducated people in this. Either way I live in southern ontario so bobcats are VERY scarce. Anyway here's the question, as you see, now the Bobcat is a cute little kitty, but of course, when they grow their lunch gets bigger too, i mean up in BC i see videos of the local ones being hunted because they eat people's dogs. There have even been the rare man eaters!

  • @bigcatrescue

  • @enzarto

    the questions i is the fact that bobcats should have their territory or park because i mean if they come to homes they could eat someone's dog or whatever, i dunno, am i wrong?

    @wesmartino64 you DO know you have to have a license to own these things, right? Gee, maybe that's why they give the stray bobcat to a bobcat keeper*with a license*

    I have never had the honour of seeing a bobcat in my yard, but if I did, it would be most welcome and if anyone tried to hurt it, they would end up on the wrong end of my sword.

  • @DembaiVT

    I worry for this little one that it may imprint on humans (especially the one getting up around the clock to feed it) despite your best efforts. Based on looks, if it were a domestic kitten, it's just beginning to enter the stage where it will begin to be socialized.
    I hope you find a proper mother-cat for her. It's unfortunate that there are pregnant wild cats in captivity at all.

  • @Ranwolfe
    @Ranwolfe 15 лет назад

    They do want to be around and are not that expensive to feed if a house cat can eat dry food so can they where do you think the domesticated cats come from? Do they not like meet? You people think you know everything even domesticated cats have their own personality

    i am not sure it's a good idea to release these rescued bobcats back in the wild. the mother bobcats teaches their young how to live i the wild and avoid all kinds of dangers. something these kitten never experienced. they also know what parts of the forest are their territory and to avoid interacting with hostile bobcats..I think it's better to have them live in a closed environment.
