Split / Divided Car Braking systems Explained - How it works.

An explanation of the split/divided braking systems found on modern cars and light commercials.
Due to safety regulations, tandem master cylinders are fitted to modern hydraulic braking systems to provide a back-up in the event of fluid loss.
Due to differences in system designs and vehicle set-ups, there are a number of different ways to layout the divided system to ensure that in the event of a leak/failure, there is still adequate braking to bring the vehicle to a halt safely and under control.
