    Well, there is another version of the story where Goddess Artemis saved the princess and made her one of her maids.
    Trojan War is one of the biggest events in Greek mythology where Goddess of Discord Eris is the principal architect.
    As far as I remember Artemis, Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, Eris, and other gods and goddesses sided with the trojans. While Hera, Athena, and other gods and goddesses sided with the Greeks.
    Hera and Artemis had confronted each other in this war, Hera wounded Artemis in this fight before Artemis fled to her father Zeus. Her mother Goddess of Motherhood Leto treated her wounds.
    Athena and Ares had also confronted each other in this war, Athena handily defeated the God of War in combat.
    (English is my fourth language so sorry for the grammar issues.)

      Agamemnon is one of the most interesting and complicated figures in epic history and the gods didn't cause all of that for suffering for entertainment but rather the biggest reason was they they didn't want to lose their demigod children or their favorites (like Zeus for Sarpedon, Thetis for Achilles, Athena for Diomedes and Odysseus, Apollo for Hector, Eos the Dawn for Memnon, Ares for Penthisilea, etc..)

    Ifigenia was taken by Artemis in a cloud just as Kalhas was about to sacrifice her and put a stag in her place. Nonetheless, none of the Greeks saw that. Ifigenia became a priestess for the Goddess, and later found by her brother Orestis as written in the tragedy, Ifigenia en Tavris.

      Yes I saw it too, it was nominated for an Oscar for best foreign movie. The production design and costumes and locations give it a strong sense of being authentic bronze age, the army is much more a rag tag bunch. The film is extremely tragic, the Greeks really knew how to lay it on thick. The king is potrayed as much a hostage of his army as its leader.

    Ifigenia didn't die, goddess Artemis covered her with a cloud and put a deer on her place, as a sign of her accepting the sacrifice. The cloud took the young maiden to the land of Tauris where Ifigenia became the arch priestess of Artemis in order to thank her for allowing her to live. The tradition of Tauris was to sacrifice every foreigner who would dare to step a foot on their land as a gift to goddess Artemis.
    The king of Tauris wanted to make Ifigenia his wife, but she would be making various excuses in order to avoid him. When she was about to succumb to the king's pleas as she had almost run out of excuses and as she was performing a cleansing ritual by the sea in order to buy some more time to herself, she noticed of a ship that had wrecked nearby.
    Using her priestess identity, she went off to get to know of the whereabouts of the people who were on that wrecked ship. Later on, she met with their leader, who ended up being her little brother Orestes, who was still a little boy by the time Ifigenia was sacrificed.
    Together they made an escape plan that was successful, only to return to Mycenae and discover that their father Agamemnon had been murdered by their mother, Clytemnestra and her lover and Agamemnon's cousin, Aegisthus. Orestes killed Clytemnestra in order to avenge their father and exiled himself until years later, when he killed his half brother Aletes and claimed the throne of Mycenae. Meanwhile Ifigenia remained a high priestess of goddess Artemis until her peaceful death of old age.

      @@edgarwolfe9 I am afraid that, as a Greek who has read the original version many times, as it happened to be taught in schools and was in the school books my mother had kept, this is the one and only story, exactly as it was written by Euripides! And it's not a myth, it's a theatrical scenario and a fictional story, therefore there is no alternative to it.

      @@gkalenaki Slight problems. 1: If Iphigenia never died, then the entire play of the Oresteia falls apart immediately. If she never died, Clymestria never wouldve killed her husband in the first place. Second: It makes no sense thematically for Artemis to save Iphigenia during the Trojan war. The entire point of the Trojan War Stories is a lesson about the consequences of Rage. Think about it. Aris starts the war by throwing an apple due to her rage at not being invited to the wedding of Achilles' parents. Then, that leads to Helen's abduction, leading the rage of Menelaus, who throws all of Greece into war. And, Artemis's rage over the death of one of her sacred animals leads to... You get the idea. Third: What type of school shows their kids stories of Dad's killed their daughter's? Obviously that would have to be censored. If your mom has a version of that play, that you know, WAS TAUGHT IN SCHOOL, then she would believe Iphigenia was saved as well. Because she went to school as well. Fourth: The fact this is a argument at all proves my point. If there really was only one version, this video wouldn't exist and I wouldn't be arguing.

    • @gkalenaki
      @gkalenaki 2 месяца назад

      @@edgarwolfe9 @edgarwolfe9 the only problem is that you clearly haven't read anything about this specific ancient theatrical play, but you still feel the need to prove yourself superior to someone who has. And back in the 70's not only censored stuff in school books didn't exist, but, as this story is a part of our Greek cultural heritage, it was contained as a whole, along with Antigone of Sophocles. If you still have doubts, you can either go to your local library and ask to read the whole thing, or you could create a Quija board and have some talk with Euripides himself, I'm sure he would be very glad to answer to every question of yours.

    First off this is great but small thing Agamemnon wouldn’t have written a letter to anyone most likely. As the Mycenaeans used Linear B to write and it was really only used by scribes to keep track of like trade and taxes boring sort of stuff. Unfortunately they just didn’t using writing in the same way we do. Even homer writes that a message to have a man killed was only as complicated as a few mark scratched into “tokens” which I always took to mean like little clay or wooden tiles, this as close as you get to a letter in the day of Agamemnon.

    • @ThePaganSun
      @ThePaganSun 2 года назад

      That's partly true. But the Mycenaens used Linear B for administrative things. But they might've used other languages like Hittite and Luwian for letter writing. And in Euripides' play, Iphigenia at Aulis. He sends a "letter" (a clay tablet).
