Olly is one of the only guitarists in the modern metal scene that can do the whole "Djent" thing and make it sound fresh. He has his own instantly recognisable style, his riffs are unique and flow together beautifully, and he writes genuinely good songs. He is, without a doubt, one of the best guitarists in the scene at the moment.
Honestly I don’t even see this as djent, more prog rock/metal imo. I mean he definitely “djents” in his songs, but his melodies and writing are so far past the 000110001 bullshit it’s not even funny.
02:07-02:13 This 5~ second sequence blew my mind. Three picking techniques used flawlessly in a single expression. Inspires me to regiment guitar again, holy moly.
He’s amazing, was front row at Portland show few years ago and i yelled “your bad ass olly fuckin Steele” and he pointed to John like no he is. Seems humble. Cool amazing track.
THIS IS THE TUNE! I FOUND YOU! this came up in a random list at some point and I didn't see what this song was until it came up now! this is sick! i love it
This was the song that really stood out to me of his, this one and balance. All his work is amazing, but these two songs are pure gems. Quickly became one of my top guitarists
this is clearly amazing. Although, these days it feels like amazing is the new normal for guitar. RUclips has given everyone who is willing to learn lessons for free from the best in the world. Kudos technology!
This is so cool. I felt so inspired that I just had to pick up my guitar and play for like 4 hours straight after almost a year of not playing. When that intro riff kicks in at the end of the solo. So cool!
I...literally can't stop listening to this. I've written partial lyrics to it. I've tried mixing it in with other songs. (I suck at it and don't do it justice but the enjoyment of it has never stopped.) I just canNOT get it out of my head. I love it so much, you wouldn't even believe it. Thank you for killing it so hard. ☺️
Fucking A! It feels like that sometimes. They are just so fucking good. It is like that overdubbed John Petrucci lesson clip. "Now see? u cant play that, so you should just give up, sell the guitar on eBay or something!" Check out the John Petrucci psycho exercises videos if you don't know what I'm talking about it is hilarious.
Some of the most successful guitarists off all time weren't really that good. Munky and Head from Korn are an example, probably the most wealthy and successful guitarists of all time playing power chords and using cool effects. Same with Linkin Park. Being good at guitar doesn't mean you write good, listenable songs (Ygnwie Malmsteen).
I play a Strat with a setup that makes most predominately electric players look at me in horror and ask: "Why do you have the action so high on this?" The reason is that I need the guitar to push back a little bit. I'm mostly an acoustic player. This makes me want to buy a guitar like this and keep it set up with a buttery smooth action. I initially raised the action to make it difficult to fall into holdsworthian ruts. It helped me find my own voice. Now I figure I should be able to play like me, on any guitar. This was pretty mind blowing. thanks.
Absolutely exhilarating. The sheer colossal sound when he hits the open D string is like some kind of flak cannon or the broadside of a warship ❤ fucking huge and absolutely lethal
Man, this guy's pop song structure with his mega clean riffing and solo-ish licks and passages is just overwhelmingly awesome. I need more Mr. Steele! Prost, from CT.
What a banger! The main riff gave me some nostalgic/familiar vibes, but that new groove on it is hard as nails!! Looking like a creep headbanging in the car!
Mad props to Olly for another amazing song but damn Anup killed it on the drums here too! The bit right after the solo has so much momentum and detail but flies so under the radar, it's incredible.
Chuuuuuuuuuuuuun. Learn it here: bit.ly/LearnOpen
Please tell me there is a drumless track of this so I can cover it 😩😩😩
It says "intermediate" difficulty. Are you having a laugh? I would consider Lamb of God to be "intermediate" and this to be "face melting".
Lol
chon
The most Olly Steele riff that Olly Steele has ever riffed
100%
I’m convinced this whole song is just 1 big Olly stelle riff 😂😂 still great though
TRUEEEEEE
That intro is Djent Everlong
Yes!
LMAO that's exactly what I thought too.
Thought that as well! Love the vibe of it
knew it sounded familiar
100%
I used to think Olly was lucky to be in Monuments, now I think Monuments is lucky to have Olly.
X2
X3
He wrote the entirety of I, the destroyer. Which is maybe their coolest track
& Celeste he did also
Facts

I agree. This subgenre of metal has gotten pretty stale over the last few years but he's always dropping tasty licks.
And he does it using drop D and C!
Definitely him and Ro from I built the sky take it to the next level!!!!
lol this sounds just the same... well, same thing happens with neosoul... they are cool styles, but done to death, always with a very similar formula.
Honestly I don’t even see this as djent, more prog rock/metal imo.

Incredible isn't it.

He's on his 200th playthrough of Guitar
@@fozza3232 such an underrated comment
@fozza3232 @Jasonwhitewick your comments are so controversial 🤦🏻♂️
Everyone talks about his playing but his song writing is just so amazing
I got his Masterclass bundle pack JTC and the riffs in that are incredible. The guy is a genius
Dude for real!!! He really knows how to layer sounds in amazing ways. The guitar layering here is probably his best work so far
I love how he plays, how he writes and how cool he is. Amazing dude, literally the definition of inspiration!

This 5~ second sequence blew my mind. Three picking techniques used flawlessly in a single expression. Inspires me to regiment guitar again, holy moly.
Me too goosbump
Olly has definitely joined Browne as bring my primary guitar heroes. Ridiculous dudes both.
100%. Immense talent both of them
This has an almost 'Everlong' feel to the riff in the rhythm parts.
I was thinking the same foo fighters meets metal
It does!!
i thought the exact same!
theres literally the same interval in the same key
This is evolution. Olly has always been impressively innovative.
All about that wobble
Still super impressed with 'Balance' and now he drops this banger!
Came here to say the same thing!!
He’s amazing, was front row at Portland show few years ago and i yelled “your bad ass olly fuckin Steele” and he pointed to John like no he is. Seems humble. Cool amazing track.
This is in another level, what a banger, can't wait to spend 5 years to try to learn this
this is so good
I was grinning ear to ear the entire track. This man just keeps getting better and better somehow.
THIS IS THE TUNE! I FOUND YOU!
this came up in a random list at some point and I didn't see what this song was until it came up now!
this is sick! i love it
Never heard of this guy before but GOD DAMN he has an amazing talent! Dude didn’t say one word but said everything with that guitar! Bravo sir 👏🏼😆
I could listen to this a thousand times!

Please Olly Steele make an entire album of songs like these, that would be sick!
That smile on his face cause he's nailing his riff makes me so happy~ The satisfaction of making such a wonderful song. You are fucking awesome man.
I can't get over how frickin' crispy this mix is
The world needs an Olly and Chris Turner collab!!!
Wow just heard this guy for the first time he is amazing.
This is so cool. I felt so inspired that I just had to pick up my guitar and play for like 4 hours straight after almost a year of not playing. When that intro riff kicks in at the end of the solo. So cool!
There's no words cause we're all at a loss for them. Absolutely legendary.
I have literally listened to this about 17 times. Its SOOOO SICK!!!!!
Olly secretly down playing that his an insane lead player... this track has everything man, complete banger. The song writing is top dollar 👌🏻
Olly Steele like always, didn't disappoint and create some guitar Olly-Style-masterpiece!
Hello,
I've waited here for you.
djent Everlong?
I want an entire solo album of this man
bruh. please don't ever stop creating masterpieces.
I just discovered this today, omg I love this song... olly has some Supreme talent
The solo in the middle is beyond everything I heard in metal / Djent so far.. It reminds me of 80s osc-sync synth solos and I love it!
Best guitarist of our era
The hybrid picking during the solo was super clean
Guy's like this, make me want to pick up learning how to play the guitar . Olle is definitely one of the best
What a banger!! I love Olly's style of riffing so much. The entire song is amazing, but 01:27 is my favourite part so far. Can't stop listening!
that solo was just outrageously beautifully clean

@@valimnioka9378 Hey, look, musicians.
Either of you mix?
Easily the riff lord of our generation 😍

True!
Not a riff
I love Olly to death and honestly him and Holcomb are pretty close as riff machines. Maybe they should do a song together.

Wonderful piece of music and you got Anup smashing that kit behind you. Hell yeah.
every time Olly picks up the lute he makes gold
This is one of the most amazing things I've ever heard
This song is absolutely fantastic... Nothing more to say.
The coolest part about this to me is the 0:45 chord. So simplistic compared to the rest of the tune but so, so awesome.
Ended that solo on a high bend like a real man!
olly might be the most wicked guitar's alive wow!

Cool riff and technique. Been giving you a listen every time I get on RUclips. 🤓super 😎
Two years ago and I am barely hearing it this within the last month, Boo. Got get my antennas up again.
Impressive and compelling
Does anyone know what light tube Olly is using?
Massive rhythm playing, good patterns as well
I don't know which is more beautiful, the riffs or the guitar.
The phrasing on the solo is wonderful.
Wow!! So tight, so clean, such awesome melodies.
KING! 😎🤘 🔥🔥

It's the "in between" bits I love so much
That snare is well haunted 👻
