I mean your not entirely wrong. If tge Hague had a military and it committed atrocities, would they hold them accountable? How can a group that commits warcrimes hold another guilty without being a massive hypocrite.
So very true. Just look how our society operates. If you're the wrong color, gender, religion, ethnicity, as examples, it is perfectly fine, & encouraged by society to be biased against you. If you are an outcast, injustice, in inevitable, regardless of if you are more empathetic, or if you possess a great set of morals, & ethics, that go against the social grain of polite, civilized society. Remember, The Victors, are ALWAYS the ones who write history, & likewise are always in the right, & good. While the conquered are always the wicked ones, who rarely, if ever are given any voice to defend themselves. This is why justice, is biased, & injustice, from a certain point of view. Much like "known" truth, could easily be little more than a corrupt lie, for personal gain. There is no good, nor evil, on a two-way rifle range. Only collateral damage, & loss if life, on both sides of the killing fields. Choose your side carefully, & plan accordingly. We are all, afterall, nothing more than evil, hairless monkeys, who mastered the creation of instruments of destruction, to satisfy our primative, tribalistic, egos.
Sniper vs Knife: Symbology and Mentality Hunter and Crosshair are on the opposite ends of combat range and this difference in weapon choice can tell us a lot about who they are and possibly why they end up on different sides about the Empire. Crosshair: With a sniper there is more of a disconnect with the victims than with closer range weapons, not only are you literally geographically farther away from the target which blurs details of a person but you also have the scope between you and the target. Killing is less personal at far distance, not having to hear or smell the person die, heck you could just move away from the scope if you don't want to see it. Also ideally a sniper is always going to have the high ground, being above the fight, looking down on those you are going to kill, like Zeus chucking lightning. This superiority/god complex fits cleanly with the Empire. The deathstar was pretty much I giant planet sniper. Hunter: I don't think anything is more personal than killing with a knife. When you stab someone you are literally connecting yourself to your victim via the knife. You can smell the blood in the air, hear their last words and breaths, and see the life leave their eyes. It's very hard to dehumanize your enemies in that kind of situation and that would lead to a more individualist view of living beings. Unlike the sniper which is just a one purpose weapon of war, the knife is a multi purpose tool which can be adapted to many uses and a similar observation can be made about Crosshair and Hunter. Hunter is also a expert tracker and part of tracking is being able to put yourself in the mind of your target to understand their motives to better predict their movements. This implies some level of empathy or understanding of your target which once again connects you to and humanized your enemies. I imagine most of what I said about humanizing doesn't apply when it comes to droids but when the empire took over the enemies stopped being droids. All of this together put Hunter squarely opposed to the Empire's tactics. EDIT: So some former snipers have pointed out that in real life there is far more of a connection to their targets than my inexperienced mind had assumed. Thank you to those folks and I recommend reading those comments for a more realistic understanding of sniper mentality. That being said I would counter that the reality of sniping and the way sniping is portrayed in the majority of fiction, be it movies or anime or what have you, is quite different. Most things that aren't common knowledge or are skilled activities are portrayed inaccurately in fiction and in this case we are talking about fiction. Also I would counter that if a normal person in a sniper situation would have all these feelings getting in the way or negatively affecting their performance as a sniper that it would make sense that someone who is a psychopath or lacks empathy or remorse would make a "better" sniper. Which is what I think is the case with Crosshair. The Kaminoans were trying to make him into the best possible sniper so if they thought that empathy or remorse might get in the way then they would have gotten rid of or muted them if they could, maybe him being a psychopath was his mutation and the Kaminoans thought it would make him a better sniper. Anyways let's all keep thinking and theorizing.
Says someone, that I am guessing, never fought in a war. Being a sniper isn't as impersonal as you make it at all, most the time you are the battalions eyes and ears. Enemies tend not to walk around in Regimental size units saying "here I am". There's a lot more to being a sniper than pulling a trigger. the different between a PIG and a HOG. But on a combat mission you are literally "in the fight" and if they pick your position, and sometimes by luck, you become the attention of the enemy combatants quickly. There is no "looking away" as you have to ensure your target went down, and if you need to adjust fire. And most grunts also "dehumanize" their enemy, its part of training. You see targets not men and to be honest you don't think much of the combat actions you just act. And yes, I have first hand knowledge. Your thinking here is vastly flawed but I do understand where you form your ideas from, but talk to a combat vet before making assumptions. I have done both roles, as to become a sniper you have to first be infantry. Oh and I'll say this as a bonus; and just speaking for myself here, PTSD, isn't caused by the horrors inflicted upon others (enemys) in battle, its more about what happens to your men, and usually pairs with survivors guilt. Its not about what you did, but what you failed to do. Just my 2 cents, take it or leave it. That said Allen seems to understand a lot more about the "grey area" of the human condition, than most. I appreciate his perspective, especially his observation about Crosshairs tendency towards authoritarianism. Though not to be missed is, Crosshair does like his freedom as well. This is seen in his desire for autonomy to pick his own missions, and how to conduct them and not constantly up his COs ass asking for orders.
@@gabrielgemmett3795 Fair points sir, I am not speaking from personal experience, which is why im trying to focus on symbolism than actual tactics, but I'm not totally ignorant of war and weapons. My knowledge of snipers is based on the interviews I've seen from people who were snipers. I'm not saying that all snipers have a god complex or are cold calculated killers. Nor do I think that Crosshair is suffering from any kind of ptsd or trauma, but I do think he is a cold calculated killer. We know that Crosshair hasn't been under the control of the inhibitor chip for some time and we know he's seen and been part of the horrors of Empire, yet he still chooses their side. Crosshair enjoys being a weapon more than he cares about who is pointing him or where he is being pointed. I don't think I need to have served to understand that ideally as a sniper you would be elevated and away from the center of the combat and when making shots you would be focused on calculating the distance and dropoff and wind speed and direction. Which would suit someone who is a cold calculating killer with a superiority complex. Obviously, both Crosshair and Hunter are more fleshed out and multi dimensional characters than I laid out in my post seeing as how both of them also use other weapons at various ranges and in different situations. I was simply theorizing about these characters and seeing if there were any possible connections between their personalities and weapons of choice. Also I do understand that snipers have to confirm kills, I was just trying to make a point about the level of disconnect compared to stabbing someone. My personal experience tells me that even shooting a pumpkin feels different when you do it from down range through a scope compared to point blank.
I completely disagree with your point about disconnect between snipers and their victims. If you read combat memoirs of snipers, you can see that they actually have a very intimate relationship with each man they gun down. Often, with good optics, a sniper can see the facial expressions of a man before and after he takes his final breaths. He can watch his enemies die. Of course, in a war against droids, the psychological toll on snipers is much less, due to most of the enemy being robots, but the point still stands. Snipers have a relationship with their enemies that the infantryman, with worse optics and in much faster-paced combat, cannot. This leads to psychological decline and depression among snipers, and it only seems to get worse with the number of kills.
Crosshair has become so radicalized that his job security never crossed his mind. I feel like being the only clone stationed on a planet of TK troops would raise some red flags to a reasonable person.
Well, given Admiral Rampart’s decision to bring down Tipoca City on top of Crosshair and the rest of his squad, I think we can say that his job security wasn’t going to be honored from the start.
I think Crosshair’s confidence in his own skills and sense of superiority over normal clones made him genuinely think the Empire would keep him around even while they got rid of the regs.
I think this whole video is missing the point that crosshairs doesn’t believe in the empire because he doesn’t care. He just wants a purpose besides all of the evidence of this throughout any time he’s been on screen in Star Wars. His language this episode whenever he mentions the empire to his brothers. He doesn’t say why the empire his good he says they’ll have purpose. He believes his brothers are wasting theor lives being nomad mercenaries. They were made for more and were suppose to be elite soldiers. Crosshairs life would be empty without the empire. He has no care for the politics
@@SPIDERVENOM1000 that’s not true, he would not have given them a second chance or save omega. Also when they were in the training room he told Hunter he’d give them a second chance by making sure omega was not involved in their life because it was to dangerous and she didn’t belong. Yes he has personally ambition with the empire, he clearly says the empire is the most powerful force that control the galaxy and he wants to be a part of it.
@@SelfImprovement1111 he claimed to be angry at The Empire for what they did to him--taking away his free will... Yet, wanting them to still join and knowing that by leaving Omega to find for herself would leave her wide open.
How can you blame Hunter for keeping Omega? She is the one who wanted to stay with the Bad Batch, and Hunter tried to get her somewhere safe more than once. If Omega wants that, it's not Hunters fault
Unless the scientist was lying about his chip being ramped up when they were trying to increase its effectiveness, he probably still had the chip in first handful of episodes.
@@benaldridge8255 I still think it was removed in episode 3. I could be way off and probably am, but if you watch it, it does make sense. Nala Se doesn't mention to Tarkin what 'the procedure' was; we all assumed she'd ramped up his chip some more, but didn't they max it in episode 1?
@@FerDeLance06 This. And Tarkin's response, "Let's see if he stays that way" indicates that he (Crosshair) could potentially change from a state that the empire finds favorable. Removing the inhibitor chip and granting Crosshair freewill was one way to gain his loyalty. For me he is the member of the Bad Batch with a mindset most like Slick and its understandable that he would feel passionate about the empire's proposed plans for the future. It was also a good way to test whether the clones could be loyal to the empire of their own volition while at the same time removing the possibility any hidden agendas, as with order 66.
@@rosiemaker8536 Yes, I also picked up on that, plus he ratted on Hunter when his chip was still weak, for letting Caleb escape. Maybe that had Tarkin thinking he had potential and he wanted to see how he'd act without the chip making him just another obedient drone.
@@robertnelson9599 I know ... But the way the Empire treats its War Veterans is horrible !! You are right, the Galactic Marines are a Ruthless Unit ... So they would not hesitate to execute Order 66 !!
Really enjoyed this video - opening minds to see Crosshair's POV. Everyone knows the backstory of the empire and it's easy to automatically pit Crosshair as the bad guy against the Bad Batch/good guys.
@@GhostInPajamas From the Empire's POV: They were hanging out in an armed insurgent camp. They tried to flee in a transport with the remaining insurgents. Seems more plausible they're part of Saul's group, if not recruits for him, and are just trying to save their own skin. Clone Wars also showed us surrenders mean nothing in Star Wars (all those fake surrenders Anakin and Obi Wan did before attacking the people trying to accept the surrender).
@@GhostInPajamas The video is literally titled "Crosshair Is Right About the Empire", of course the arguments are going to be from a pro-Empire POV. In the show the Empire was literally created days/months ago from when the episode took place. We know they become evil later, but at this point most of the galaxy is welcoming them because they haven't done anything wrong yet. If we're arguing about what they do later, then Saul's rebels becomes the Partisans - a group that attacked civilian targets and were so extreme that the Rebel Alliance leadership had to distance themselves from them. You're defending space terrorists my dude.
@@whyamicommenting3823 I’m aware of the title, I think it’s ridiculous though. Crosshair committed war crimes, even the other imperial soldiers with him wanted to take the civilians prisoner, crosshair had to shoot one of his own soldiers to silence the others before murdering the people. And we’re gonna act like this guy is a voice of reason? The empire literally rose to power through treason, corruption, and genocide, why are you acting like they started out okay? If you think Saw’s Rebels are terrorists for collateral damage, why don’t you think the empire is for killing billions? They’re still a totalitarian regime. The only ones calling the rebels terrorists are the fascists trying to control everyone, and you’re defending them. Might as well say nazi Germany had a good thing going. Shits weird man
Crosshair, in the end, is an idealist, and he wants to have the Bad Batch help him restore order to the galaxy. Too bad this version of the Empire saw him as expendable. Also, Clone Force 99 should have eradicated (or at least tried to eradicate) Saw Guerrera and his terrorists, and taken their civilians captive and brought them back to Kamino for questioning, like what that one ES trooper wanted to do.
It’s also mainly because he wanted purpose and the empire gave it to him, I think he mentions this and he doesn’t care about the atrocities of the empire. It’s what clones were Bred for and it rly shows maybe clones had more free will of their actions than we think after executing order 66
Exactly, as pointed out in another video, Crosshair is a psychopath, its not the chip that made him act the way he did. Also Inferno Squad "Imperial Navy Commandos" took care of that group.
That's like saying Hitler was an "idealist" who just wanted to restore "German Greatness" or Stalin just wanted to "resist the counter-revolutionaries". At a certain point, the "bad guy has a point" becomes complete moral idiocy.
@@kenle2 Palpatine personal objectives were evil, but lots of what the Empire was built up for was good. Having no unified well funded military screwed over the Republic and Disney version of the New Republic. The galaxy is wide open to an extra-Galactic Invasion, like the Vong, and a Death Star is a perfect counter against their Super weapons, which is to toss planets at other planets.
Allen we need a Generation Playlist out on Spotify asap my man. The soundtrack choices are amazing, what are some of the artists you guys use? Keep up the solid work, we are Generation Tech.
It’s funny, Dee Bradley Baker when doing Crosshair’s voice, he says he does that particular clone voice with a hue of Hannibal Lecter. After hearing that, I’ve never viewed Crosshair the same again. Granted Crosshair isn’t an unrepentant serial cannibal, but damn, you can’t get that bit out of your mind after hearing it.
I liked when crosshair said they didnt gave him a chance, and later in the next episode wreker says to him "you didnt even try to come back" It makes yourself think that both sides messed up really hard. The bad batch did left him behind, and from what we could see, they had the skill to try harder and come back for crosshair at some point somehow, but didn't. And in counterpart, crosshair didnt even tried to make contact with them for help or something, or left an open window for them to aproach him and rescue him, in fact he made the oposite. Another thing that cougth my eye was tech talking to wrecker that its from crosshair nature to be severe and uniylding, and when crosshair asks why he is defending him, tech answers that he isnt, "understanding you does not mean i agree with you"
When Crosshair was taken to the lab, The kaminoans identified the chips partial activation and boosted it. So Yes he had his chip in the early parts of the show. I do believe the engine must have damaged or deactivated the chip.
He's incredible, dynamic & complicated. Not the average cliched antagonist, he's a gray character. And they are the most intriguing & can be the most likeable. Pragmatic for sure. He's entirely my favorite Clone in TBB for sure. Biggest fan.
Palpatine’s face is practically on the Bad Batch advertising poster; unless his role is strictly kept in the background, I have a feeling he’s going to get personally involved with the plot eventually.
@@lordescanor8232 Would certainly like to see Vader compared to Echo, now that both of them are "more machine than man" (with the main difference being their allegiances/moralities).
I always saw the rest of the squad as abandoning Crosshair. The squad went out of their way to help Omega, who they didn't even know and turned their back on their brother. They never go back for him. They don't turn on Wrecker when his chip activates and they are willing to help him. Why not Crosshair? I hope they help Crosshair and he rejoins the squad. It would create a lot of trust issues going forward which could create some interesting drama too.
They left Crosshair behind, but in that situation what could they do?And going back for him would have been a suicide mission. But they don't even talk about Crosshair. When his name comes up he is a threat. Not a brother who needs help. They abandoned him in mind and heart as well.
@@biankab6328 Bingo. Yes! I have always felt this way. Still very frustrated & upset with Hunter for *never making ANY effort to get his brother back.* Not like he wasn't an integral member of this squad either. The sniper is a fairly valuable member not easily replaced. And you are correct, they had time for complete strangers but *NOT their own squad brother.* Pathetic. *Crosshair is not the villain, the Empire is.* He's just hurt, misdirected & lost, for now. I do hope he can still rejoin, more than likely Season 3. I still hold out hope for my Crosshair. Please Dave, don't write him out of this show, please. I am begging. Please don't.
How are they supposed to help him when he would try to kill them? Why is he loyal to the empire he knows that they lied about the Jedi betraying the republic, he knows that they all planned to overthrow the republic with the clones. That's what I don't get. Did he fall for a classic brainwash instead of just being controlled by a chip?
Crosshair also told us that omega wouldn't be detained, she may have ended up actusly getting a life. Either getting adopted or enlisted into the inperial academys when their set up, he never suggested that she would be sent to a lab.
Thinking about it, Omega is seeming more like a child soldier (a child doing very child soldier-y like things) - but then again the empire wanted to kill her so the Batch rescuing her isn't that evil. As to the let her go, where can you guarantee that she'd be safe and not tracked down by the empire? And they've formed a parental bond - the Batch and Omega. And overall, the times the Batch left Hunter when they 'could' have saved him were all times they were in serious danger of dying. And Crosshair perceives anything but sticking with him and the empire as betraying their 'family' - yet the empire is still evil, authoritarian, etc. For him it's either betrayal or a brutal authoritarian dictatorship and me. That's the choice he was giving them. And the Batch now have a different family - and Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, and Omega are all somewhere between older brothers and fathers to Omega - that is their new family and for them to join Crosshair would involve completely destroying that one.
Agreed on the commentary of Dave Filoni's storytelling in TBB being better than entire sequel trilogy. I said that constantly during the Siege of Mandalore. He writes the best of Star Wars.
As far as Crosshair was concerned, the rest of the Bad Batch betrayed their brotherhood and became a band of mercenaries, who have been slumming it without a cause to fight for.
This is a pretty good video. However, you seem to forget that Hunter already tried to give Omega a better life by trying to make her leave with Cut Lawquane and his family, only for her to reveal that she actually wants to stay with him and the batch and that she's more than willing to handle whatever life with them throws at her (which she's already proven to be capable of). I'd also agree that Crosshair's chip was in fact the cause of his change of heart up until it obviously got fried on Bracca. Lastly, just because the sequel trilogy isn't perfect doesn't mean it's what you said at 11:20
They enhanced his chip in the beginning of the show. I believe they just told him that they removed it when they enhanced it. If you watch part 2, there are times when crosshair is holding his head also as if he were having a headache… similar to Wrecker when he was having chip problems. I believe he has been conditioned to think they removed his chip at the point when they enhanced it.
They should have stayed in the Empire until the end of the first season, and have them eagerly wipe out Separatist holdouts like in Raxus Secundus, Trandosha, Zygerria, and Geonosis. Over time, you can have them slowly crack in their resolve as they see the Empire clamping down on Republic-aligned worlds like Kashyyyk and Ryloth. Near the end of the first season, you can then have Rom Mohc come in, starting a project to forcibly turn select clone troopers into Phase Zero Dark Troopers, and have that be the final straw for Clone Force 99-make it their reason for leaving, since they don't want to be turned into robots, due to their intense hate of the clankers.
yeah I think staying in the empire for a longer period and not leaving it in the first episodes would have been more impactful. Maybe even showing some of the good sides of the empire instead of just the bad parts that we are already familiar with. I mean we already know, why the empire is bad. But showing why so many people still support it would have been interesting.
@@LontEnCaras Exactly. I'd have it so that in the first 8 episodes, the Bad Batch are willing and loyal Imperials. They're not so sure about Order 66, but wiping out the remnants of the CIS and blowing them up would put a smile in their faces. Then as the story goes, you can have the Empire clamping down on former pro-Republic allies and instituting draconian laws to keep order and continue the hunt for the Jedi, and slowly but surely, the Bad Batch's loyalty to the Empire starts to weaken. Then you can have a mission where the Empire forces them to do something questionable, or leaves them for dead, and they really get pissed off, with even Crosshair beginning to believe that maybe, the Jedi had the right idea, if the Empire is willing to treat even its elite soldiers and officers as expendable tools, or if it's willing to betray its allies for power. Then you can have Rom Mohc and the Dark Trooper project rear their ugly heads, and they start turning "skilled but insubordinate" clones into Phase Zero Dark Troopers, and the Bad Batch realize it's time to leave, since they'll definitely be on that list. They then sabotage the cyberization facilities on Kamino, and the final boss for them in Season 1 would be an elite squad of ARC Trooper clones from the 501st Legion who got injured while killing Jedi, clones who willingly became Dark Troopers in imitation of their master, Darth Vader. These clones would have Crosshair's good aim, Hunter's senses, Wrecker's strength, and the technological aptitude of Echo and Tech, since they're cyborgs. The final battle goes badly for Clone Force 99, but the Bad Batch gets help from Delta Squad, since Sev shows up and convinces Boss and the gang to desert because the Empire mistreated their Wookiee friends, and with help from Delta Squad, they defeat the Dark Trooper squad (but they don't kill them, since I'd use this squad for Season 2) sabotage the cyberization facilities, and the two squads leave the Empire forever, taking Omega and Nala Se with them. When Hunter asks about what they'll do now that they're deserters, Crosshair recommends mercenary work, since in his experience, "so long as there's two people on any given planet, someone's gonna want someone dead." There's my first season of Bad Batch.
Don't forget theirs lots of other Rebel forces that didn't make it into the Rebel Alliance because their views don't align, or i should say, they are freaking evil, Zann Consortium is a major major one.
@@lancer737 Tyber Zann chose not to join the Rebel Alliance. nice in depth review. most critics don't cover your points in the storyline. I like how you said that crosshair has the chip removed and probably had it remove early and was hunting the padawan. if he did have it remove early, why didn't he commmunicate anything about the chip to the squad? i like crosshair's POV on the scenario and like the bad guy
The empire does represent strength and power at its highest form(good or bad). HOWEVER a employee built on fear of a authoritarian government that will brutally crack down on the smallest decent with no freedoms or rights is also not sustainable long term. Ultimately the people will rise up against you like the rebel alliance or the IRA in Ireland here on earth(real world examples, nothing more implied). While democracies are really messy and chaotic its also a highly stable government in the long term.
one of the things i love most about this show is that the "good guys" arent perfect or make the best choices and the "bad guys" are perfectly evil and they dont always make the worst decisions. i like that good and evil are on a spectrum in this galaxy and there are a vast majority of just normal people put in hard situations.
I doubt that Crosshair have removed his chip. He still holds his head like Wrecker did earlier in the season. So my theory is that since his inhibitor chip got enhanced he thinks it is all his ideas and not the chip. Plus I would think the medical personal told him it was removed to make it seem that it is just his loyalty at play and not the inhibitor chip. Which is smart on their part so he will never doubt himself and "his" beliefs in the loyalty to the empire
Does anyone else remember the fact that like ep.2/3 Hunter tried to leave Omega with the clone and their family but Omega pretty much forced Hunter to take her with them…
I am late, I only just watched the episode last night. I am more amazed that the fish heads built an entire underwater tube system of some sort and that no one knew about this, until now.
Crosshair has an all too simplified and pragmatic view of the galaxy...Security Through Overwhelming Strength (the Imperial Mantra). He doesn't see or take into acc the inhumane acts a total, military -tyrannical government will do to maintain control over its citizens. He only sees himself and his brothers as having a useful place.. He doesn't see the other side of the spectrum....that side that includes his sister Omega and her safety and well-being.
And what's the difference between life under the republic and the Empire? Pirates ravage the outer and mid rim constantly, the clones would be cast aside after the war ended anyway as the republic opposes having a military. It would once again be up to spineless sector forces that collapse like your average middle eastern army in the face of actual danger. The Empire brings peace to a vast swath of the galaxy that hadn't known it in centuries. It freed tens of billions of slaves in the outer rim who became loyal stormtroopers and imperial loyalists, in Legends continuity at least. That's who the rebels are often killing: freed slaves who are serving the institution that saved them. And the atrocities the Empire committed, even slavery to a few alien races, were largely done against rebels. If people in the real world can excuse Sherman's March today, people would excuse those atrocities in star wars. And let's keep in mind most imperial atrocities only began when a full scale insurgency started across much of the galaxy, constantly bombing the very people who were protecting them from piracy and the warlords typical of so many worlds. The Empire isn't the problem, it's the emperor and the Moffs. And the rebels put the galaxy back into the same anarchic hellish position full of pirates and warlords.
@@thelordofcringe The slaves and poor dregs, that existed in the Outer Rim Territories that were freed by the Empire, became nothing more than what they already were. They just became slaves to a different overseer. They don't even have names anymore .... Just numbers....just like the Clones. Only with the Republic, if a clone wanted to be known by a name (Rex, Fives, Cody, Hunter, Echo, Wrecker, etc,) he was free to choose his own. Being known by a number, in the Empire's eyes, it makes you no more important than a droid. And to those of wealth (Hutt Cartel, The Pikes, Crimson Dawn, etc) who made their fortunes on the subjugation of these former slaves, as long as they did not oppose the authority of the Empire, they were free to go on about their businesses..... whatever is was -- legal or not. Does that make the Empire better than the Republic, with all it's free will, tribal bickering, and wealth inequality? Remember.....the war was a civil war. The Separatists were industrialist and financiers who were part of the Republic. They were influenced into breaking away by members within the galactic Senate (Palpatine and his acolytes). It was never a invading force, but a well planned cu-d'teh, a power usurption planned and executed covertly.
Crosshair: Why are you defending me? Tech: I’m not. I don’t have to agree with you to understand you. Probably one of favorite lines from the show and one that’s very applicable to the current social/political climate.
I think one of the best moments of the season was when Tech was explaining about Crosshair will do what he wants to do, that they can always wish the best for him and want him to come back but they realistically have to accept that people change and move on. It was callous but so real. Unlike instances where say the Jedi absolutely will not give up on someone and things work out, that's somewhat rare in real life. Most of the time you end up trying to help someone who doesn't want it, to your own detrimentant. I love how Tech, can just accept that his brother changed his mind and that it's not his or anyones fault, he's choosing what he's choosing and he won't hold a grudge because of it. He's meeting Crosshairs energy.
Crosshair is the most complex, but yet most relatable character so far, but I still like Echo the most, dude was plugged into the matrix is half cyborg and so how he hasn't gone completely crazy
I just hope in Season 2 we get at least a few episodes of the Bad Batch at full strength with all members. They were hamstrung throughout all of Season 1 without Crosshair and there were times where it really showed.
To be honest Crosshair sees the opportunity of it. the Bad Batch have always been outside on in the Republic but they can make a new start in the Empire.
I think Crosshair’s plan in this episode was to die together with his brothers on Kamino in the bombardment of the cloning facility. He is not on schedule and he knows it.
Crosshair is on a path with a lot of crossroads. He knows, without a doubt, what the right path is. Without exception, he knows. But he can't take it. You know why? It's too damn hard. He's too afraid. Look at the world now. Can you really say Crosshair's struggle to do the right thing ISN'T a struggle a lot people worldwide are going through? How you have to put aside yourself for the greater good of others? A lot of us can't understand that struggle because we never fought that battle. Some of us don't want the world to change, no matter how unreasonable that is because there's security and comfort in knowing what's expected of you and how people are going to act and how things are. You can't tell me someone who used to a certain way of life rejects a sudden and explosive change right in front of them. Like how an domestic violence victim keeps going back to their abuser or finds others just like their abuser in spite of love ones pleading for them not to go back? Don't you dare think it's easy to explain away selfishness with sociopathy. There isn't nothing like the sight of an amputated spirit, especially one that hides behind a mental Darth Vader mask, like so many who hide their fear behind anger because for some it's better to be angry then sad. After all, no one wants to see a soldier cry or be afraid, they want them to be heroes.
On Omega, she's a very valuable commodity, as one of only two "pure strain" clones of Jango Fett. The idea she'd be "safer" with strangers or the Empire is ludicrous. The simple fact is: she's their sister and she needs protection Crosshair doesn't really care about that, he just wants his "death squad" back together, so they can have a purpose: Oppressing the civilian population. And killing dissenters. It's kind of appalling so many people like the poster treat this like a joke, when that mindset actually exists in security services around the real world. The poster is straining too hard to make a ridiculous point. The basic premises of the Empire are EVIL by any sane definition. "But what about the Jedi, Republic, etc?" is so much sophistry to cover up a sick, totalitarian impulse to have some "authority" promise to make things better by lethal FORCE. "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph, is that good men do nothing." Submission to the Empire is worse than doing nothing, it's putting order ahead of human rights.

The Jedi had a law-enforcement role in the Republic. And Palpatine was clearly going outside his authority, even that granted to him by the Emergency Powers Act, not to mention conspiring with (organizing) the Seperatist attacks on the Republic itself. Who else was going to arrest him?

I agree that Crosshair is right to a certain extent, but one thing you're missing. He won't discuss it because as far as he's concerned he is the only one that is right. If they don't agree with him, then he's willing to kill his brothers.
Imagine if Crosshair learned that the war for which he was made and caused so much death was all palpatine's fault, and they were pawns all along in the demise of the republic orchestrated by a literal cult that has repeatedly comited genocide.
Can we get a video on how dumb it was for admiral rampart to destroy kamino. And how he cussed the long term destruction of the empire by removing clones from service.
Dude great episode, just one thing is I would argue that crosshair has his chip out. I think even though it may have been knocked out partially by the venator, since it was strengthened or enhanced on tarkins orders, it could still be affecting him. FFT
The thing is, crosshair doesnt care what side hes on or what hes fighting for Hes with the Empire simply cause he wants a purpose. He seems to need a sense of belonging or purpose
Omega is a clone, she belongs with her people. It seems like when people talk about her they ignore the implied strength of her connection to the rest of the bad batch.
Yes they clearly have made some mistakes. However it should be noted they are trying to right by their clone sister and have tried to leave her behind in a safe environment before. On the flipside they didn't give Crosshairs a chance and instead looked at him as a potential enemy from the get-go.
What Star Wars has taught me is that, child are smarter then they appear. Which is why I always think my 2 year old nephew is always plotting against me.
Well, as a person who is regimented (perhaps overly so to my own detriment) who hates chaos and disorder, I have to say, Crosshair is just a douche all up in his feelings. They left him? The four of them--note "four" not "one"--made a decision just like he did and if I recall correctly (I might be wrong) he did dime Hunter out for letting the padawan escape. Where was that loyalty to your brothers then? He's an interesting character but still a douche! Although, he wasn't totally wrong about what might be best for Omega's long-term interest.
Realistically Tarkin was the source of many of the Empire's problems in the first place. I mean I know Palpatine had a weird unhealthy crush for him, but there's a point where you just have to reevaluate your priorities. Palpatine wanted a society built on suffering, but they never last.
Nah Crosshair was bread and engineered its the way he has been brought up and his experiences and line of thinking, you cant tell a dog to stop barking its in its nature just like loyalty is in Crosshair
I think he did have his inhibitor chip whenever he’s saying good soldiers follow orders but it was probably removed a bit after he betrayed clone force 99
Question. do you think A reason that the clones are being replaced. Is that they reoersent jedi philosophy and military doctrine. With the empire shifting to sith philosophy and military doctrine.
A big reason the empire stated was they wanted soldiers that volunteered to serve, they thought they would be more loyal. Although they have less training, they have a virtually unlimited supply of them.
The reason why the Clones are being replaced with human volunteers, is that the Clones are venable to virus at are make to target them, Jango Fett's DNA was over used and decaying. If your a Legends fan. In the Battlefront 2 (2005) the Keanons created a private Army of Jango Fett Clones who were brought up to hate the Empire. Which lead to the Clone Rebellion on Komeno

People who complain about filler in the bad batch don't understand how TV shows work. They're not supposed to be a long movie split into chunks, you also have the option of individual stories that don't contribute to a larger narrative.
When they are boring, then I skip when rewatching because it has no main story elements. But I take the “filler” episodes as a chance to flesh out the world and watch other characters develop a relationship with each other. Like you see that with Hunter and Omega. If it was main story elements then we don’t see that father daughter relationship grow

Crosshair is one of the best written antagonists in the new Disney Canon. I think he would have gotten along well with Thrawn. The two could have worked together. I am still troubled by him killing civilians but think it was a good creative decision to show how ruthless the Empire is.
The Empire is morality gray compared to the Republic. In same ways the Empire is in deed better then the Republic: 1) It has less bureaucracy. 2) It has a standing Military. 3) Strong Military-Industrial Complex. 4) Effective Administration in the early days. 5) Is able to put Rebellions down hard. 6) Protect it's Citizens. However, it also has a bad side as well, for example: the Empire was 1) Anit-Alian. 2) Would have a overbloded Bureaucracy. 3) Corrupt as hell. All things considered, No Government is perfect, but (Legends)New Republic seems alot better then the Empire, or Old Republic.
I coulda sworn when Crosshair ordered his TK squad to kill the civilians he was under the amplified inhibitor chip? And then possibly have it removed after his face was burned lol

Much like "known" truth, could easily be little more than a corrupt lie, for personal gain.
There is no good, nor evil, on a two-way rifle range. Only collateral damage, & loss if life, on both sides of the killing fields. Choose your side carefully, & plan accordingly. Sniper vs Knife: Symbology and Mentality
Hunter and Crosshair are on the opposite ends of combat range and this difference in weapon choice can tell us a lot about who they are and possibly why they end up on different sides about the Empire.
@@gabrielgemmett3795 also I see you're subbed to sargon's old channels, have you seen his lotuseaters podcast?
@@BubbleZBlofish I will I hadnt checked it out yet though till now
I completely disagree with your point about disconnect between snipers and their victims.

He never suggested she wouldn't either though, and knowing the empire there isn't a nonexistant likelihood they would infact make her a labrat
You saw what the empire tried to do to baby Yoda right?
or meybe admiral rampart used this method called lying and just told crosshair what he wanted to hear
Crosshair doesn't care what happens to her.
From my perspective it seems that hunter and crosshair are not completely right or wrong are just sticking to what they believe in.
I think both sides are human and both have good reasons for their decisions.🤷🏻♀️
heck even palps has his reasons!
@@SimonBauer7 yeah but fuck him

Good from their perspective. That's why I believe evil people don't exist.
When Hunter asks about what they'll do now that they're deserters, Crosshair recommends mercenary work, since in his experience, "so long as there's two people on any given planet, someone's gonna want someone dead."
There's my first season of Bad Batch.
Don't forget theirs lots of other Rebel forces that didn't make it into the Rebel Alliance because their views don't align, or i should say, they are freaking evil, Zann Consortium is a major major one.
@@lancer737 Tyber Zann chose not to join the Rebel Alliance. When he began his war with the Empire, his second-in-command Urai Fenn recommended they join the Alliance, but Tyber Zann shot down the idea because he didn't like having to answer to anyone else. He then used his Imperial Military Academy training to turn the Zann Consortium into a professional army, and once they attained the wealth they desired, they retired and joined the New Republic, because Zann always wanted to own a senator.

nice in depth review. most critics don't cover your points in the storyline.
*Gray areas*
I doubt that Crosshair have removed his chip. He still holds his head like Wrecker did earlier in the season. So my theory is that since his inhibitor chip got enhanced he thinks it is all his ideas and not the chip. Plus I would think the medical personal told him it was removed to make it seem that it is just his loyalty at play and not the inhibitor chip. Which is smart on their part so he will never doubt himself and "his" beliefs in the loyalty to the empire
I heard that crosshair is getting an episode where it’s just him in the second season , I’m wondering if this will be in there by any chance
the c in crosshair stands for crazy smart
Does anyone else remember the fact that like ep.2/3 Hunter tried to leave Omega with the clone and their family but Omega pretty much forced Hunter to take her with them…
She would have had a much better life & Crosshair would have made it back to Clone Force 99, somehow. Very disappointing & frustrating.
@@clankers8929 Well, she was an enhanced clone. She wanted to stay with her kind.
I am late, I only just watched the episode last night. I am more amazed that the fish heads built an entire underwater tube system of some sort and that no one knew about this, until now.
It connects to one of the head scientist there, so that entire thing is possible.
Seems like the galaxy needs protection from the empire.

The New Republic is a joke.
Crosshair: Why are you defending me?
Tech: I’m not. I don’t have to agree with you to understand you.
Probably one of favorite lines from the show and one that’s very applicable to the current social/political climate.
I love this revelation, it fixes his character. Removing the 'chip' out of the equasion allows nuance
I feel bad for Crosshair. He is in complete denial that the Empire won't just throw him away when they are done with him.
disney+ finally feels like a worthwhile investment, with all the marvel and lucasfilm stuff pumping out of it im actually glad to pay for that service
I can't believe you just called an Omnicron-class attack shuttle a gray space van. *snickers*
How dare you.
Omega is older that the rest of them. She's no more a child than any of them. We forget watching but all "adult" clones are between 8 and 20
That amber alert comparison had me laughing harder than I probably should’ve.
Omega is the Same Age as the Bad Batch. Actually, she is older than they are.
The simple fact is: she's their sister and she needs protection
Crosshair doesn't really care about that, he just wants his "death squad" back together, so they can have a purpose:
Oppressing the civilian population.
"The only thing necessary for evil to triumph, is that good men do nothing."
Submission to the Empire is worse than doing nothing, it's putting order ahead of human rights.

The Empire isn't against human rights though, quite the opposite actually.

He is willing to kill his brothers (who left him behind), but I think he is willing to die after that in the bombardment.
Nope, he will never kill any of his old squad mates

Not so much anymore with the Kaminoans deposed; Bane however is still out there, and I doubt he'll let what happened to him go.
FFT
I really just want the empire's perspective. Why did they have to make inferno squad turn traitor in bf2?
The thing is, crosshair doesnt care what side hes on or what hes fighting for
Hes with the Empire simply cause he wants a purpose.
What Star Wars taught all of us: Child soldiers are very common and they might be right under our noses.
Not Star Wars, Real Wars.
That, was after his chip kicked in of course. It only got much worse once Tarkin & Rampart enhanced it to the max.
Realistically if the Tarkin doctrine wasn’t used in the way it was the empire in the eyes of everyday people of the galaxy wasn’t that bad
Crosshair did have his chip in, we saw it in Ep1 with the scanner.
I always love hearing your nuanced and contrarian takes!!
Dude! A Bad Batch team based game would be awesome! I would prefer third person, but would still play it either way! Also, just subscribed! You kick ass!
I just want to say, that's a pretty dope board. I can imagine it got quite the story.

The Evil Sniper is so dead horse trope. Can't believe the writers went for it.

The chip
Crosshairs: yo dudes the empires pretty chill
The Empire is morality gray compared to the Republic.
In same ways the Empire is in deed better then the Republic:
1) It has less bureaucracy.
2) It has a standing Military.
3) Strong Military-Industrial Complex.
4) Effective Administration in the early days.
5) Is able to put Rebellions down hard.
6) Protect it's Citizens.
However, it also has a bad side as well, for example: the Empire was
1) Anit-Alian.
