Why on earth is there background music?
If you could re upload this video without the background music, that'd be great
Oh man, that automation on the keyboard transpose is brilliant! Definitely a no-hassle solution for small keyboards. And it makes practicing easier too!
That part I'm especially proud of. :)
Cool tips! Hadn't thought of arming every track and using mute automation to switch instruments. Brilliant idea!
Heh, I feel like it's kinda janky, but it works!
Only downside I've found to far is that fadeouts aren't possible with mute automation (gotta get into volume automation :( ) and overlapping stuff can be a problem. Also, if you stop the playback, and you just want to hear the instrument (during practice, lets say) you have to place the play cursor over the unmuted portion of the track.
Honestly, I think record arm automation would be far better. Gottta look into that.
I use Reaper for both recording and live, it's a great daw 👍
We pretty much go through the same steps to get the live show runnin' 🍻
Cool to see someone else using Reaper live!
John - I'm wondering the same thing he was wondering, is it possible to automate record arming on and off??
That man is so great! I wanted immediately check him out after your interview! So much emotions!
cool glad you liked it. There's another 18min of the interview on Patreon and you can get it for a pledge of $1 or more

Glad you dug it Vadym!
I've just come back to this video because I'm setting up reaper for live use :-D
great video, the music does not interfere at all and gives a nice ambient, great tips!!
Has Synth1 development been abandoned? It hasn't been updated since 2014. I love that synth and its awesome that VSD does too.
Great video but what's up with the unnecessary, distracting music bed?
Music is too loud. Competing with the voices.
what this guy said
I stopped the video. Can't stand this.
Ohh super informative
What a great video! Thank you!
Nice interview! Where can I find information on the reaper live stuff from John Gardner?
knew I forgot something

The REAPER Blog brilliant, thank you very much! :)
It seems John Garden has made his videos for setting up reset for live performance private! Is there any way to get ahold of him or are there another way to view that series?
I’d like to just see some performances and then find out reaper was behind it
Motivational background music???
Pretty cool and insightful
Smart man, if you are going to use a "crap ton of reverb", Synth1 with its low CPU, is a good call. :P
gonna make a setup where I do guitar and vocals with the rest of my production in reaper.......... reaper is a godsend as usual (ableton is too expensive and clunky)
Awesome
I need to get this.
Thank you for this vidéo, it s very Helpfull!
It's not a Reaper question but I hope someone can help me out. I am not sure if he mentioned what sound card he's using that has multiple outputs. What would be the best solution that has 4 analog outputs? I'd like to separate vocal, guitar, backing track and click.
Most standard audio interfaces will let you do that. I tried a Scarlett 8i6, which runs on a program call Mix Control, and I couldn't get it to work at all. I ended up using my Tascam 1800 and it works great. So most interfaces will do, but I'd be weary of Scarlett stuff. Hope this helps!
I WAS using a TASCAM 16x08, but it gave me all sorts of issues with Windows. I got rid of it. I just got a Focusrite Scarlette, and so far it's been working much better.
So long as you download the drivers for it, the Behringer UMC 404HD has worked amazing for me and you can technically have 8 outputs (4 outputs mirrored)
How do you seperate your tracks into different outputs?
hardware sends
So the guitar goes through guitar rig live? so the latency is ok then?
So far so good!
nice
markers? no bro its wrong...macros and plugins that handle audio like reaktor is right answer :)
Yeah, please it's highly sugg NO background music (which this is terrible btw)
Kill the background music!
Great information packed into a much-too-long video with awful music.
Sorry you didn't dig the music. But I'm glad I was able to help you with Reaper. Good luck in your live ventures!
Wtf this Video is about?
