    My grandad spent 33 years working at Murton Colliery. He retired in 1984. So proud of him. He lived on the Wembley Estate. Thank you for this video.

    Lived 10 mile away ,in the 50,s big new development,Hawthorn shaft was sunk drawing coal from Murton ,Eppleton South Hetton and Elemore Underground on different levels with integrated underground rail systems feeding the skips of Murton and feeding the massive new coking plant and associated bi products ,an incredible operation,I could be wrong but on the day of Nationalisation the flag was hoisted by local MP Mr Manny Shinwell a labour minister of the post war government ,I beg to be corrected;

    Great video. Nicely done. Too sad to watch to the end for me, but then all things come to an end eventually. We must all adapt or perish.

    I know I was not born during the time when the pit closed but people have all ways told me the village would become overrun by crime and drug abuse when the pit shut down now we have no solidarity or opportunities for young working class people the villages are just going to reck and ruin whole community's destroyed.
