Back when there bugs. Remember taking a long, family road trip (for us it was 8hrs to see our extended family in Virginia) and you stopped to get gas and there were bugs all over the windshield? No bugs now. We’ve destroyed them. Yes .. the memories of nature
Thank you so much for these well researched and high quality videos! Also the choice of music adds so much to the experience! We need more channels like this! I'm 64 now, and as a Boy Scout, summer camp helped shape me for adulthood. I found my old "swim tag" the other day. I'd forgotten I had it! It brought back so many memories!
Yes these videos are so enjoyable! (The one thing I’d say that is missing on this one video is, although the creator did an excellent job mentioning the different groups who had their camps, one group was left out in a big way and that was Jewish summer camps. “Sleep-away” summer camp in that time was a biggggggg thing in Jewish culture and it shaped alot of the childhood of people we see and hear from today. I was really looking forward to hearing and learning more about that.) Most importantly though, again..., great job with this channel. I’m so pleased and learn so much. Thank you
I had the opportunity to go to camp from when I was 8 years old through high school. 60 years later I still have many of the friends I made at camp. The experience definitely had an impact on my life.
As a former cub and boy scout, I'm also reminded of Homer & Jethro's "Battle Of Kookamunga" and Allan Sherman's "Camp Grenada" song of the early 1960's.
I only got to go to summer camp once when a local church came up with a program for low income families. It was only a one-week camp but it was still so much fun. At least for a lot of those years we lived in the country so there was always something to get into 😉😉
I went once. The Camp was poorly run and the food was awful. I lost 8 pounds and could not afford it. Two of my cousins went with me. The following year Friday the 13th came out. We joked we wished we had that kind of excitement when we were at Camp.
Almost died at camp Patmos swallowing Lake Erie water. Got so sick the entire week. Spent it in bed or bathroom. But no way was I going home. So many memories of church camps.
Thank you for bringing back some good memories! I started attending summer sleepaway camp when I was nine until I was 14. With the exception of one year, when I was 12 and my brother was 9. It was his turn to go to sleepaway camp. He had been in a boys sports day camp for two years but his friends weren't returning that year. Well, my brother refused to go to sleepaway camp so my parents found another day camp for him. I was shocked because I hadn't realized that I could have refused lol. Even though I enjoyed going and made several new friends, I wished I had known that I had had a choice. It was decided that I would go with my brother so he wouldn't be alone. He definitely suffered from the coddling from Mom 😂. Funny, because the only time we were together was on the bus even though we sat with our friends and not with each other lol. We were in different age groups and different "focus" areas. The next year, it was back to sleepaway camp for me. My brother continued at the day camp for several more years. I loved doing so many things that we didn't get to do during the school year. Sure, we had art classes in school but, at camp, we did several multi-day projects. Ceramics were my favorite. Lots of swimming lessons. Archery, soccer, hiking, campfires, canoeing, kayaking and so many others. And, a whole new set of friends even in my last year when my friends from the neighborhood came with me. Lots of great fun!
Absolutely beautiful.. Out in the great outdoors bonding and making new friends memories to cherish good friends for life and the best part is the memories are embedded inside one's heart not on a cellphone.
Went to summer camp once with my church group when I was around 9. Was my first time being away from home for that long but had a great time! I still remember the bonfires, swimming every day, crafts, and hiking! Wish I had gone to camp more when I was older.
When I was a Child, I went to both Day Camp and as an older Child, I went to over night camp:)!! The Day Camp activities I liked the best were swimming, playing board games, arts and crafts, and the Doll Contest that no one would win, except my Friend whose Mom had a Water Ice Truck:)!! I entered my Mom's old Bride Doll from the 50s and even entered my Madame Alexander Doll, but again only my Friend whose Mom had the Water Ice Truck would win, despite which Doll any of us entered:)!! Us Day Campers always enjoyed the Lemon Water Ice, which was better than Rita's:)!! At Overnight Camp, I so LOVED learning to row a Canoe in the Creek, arts and crafts, swimming, and when we slept outside toasting marshmallows:)!! At overnight camp with every meal we would sing, "Oh, the Lord is good to me; and so I thank the Lord for giving me the things I need, the sun and the rain, and the apple seed, the Lord is good to me.":)!! And at overnight Camp I even painted our plague for our Bunk, but I did not do a very good job. Sadly, my overnight camp is now a set of Condominiums, but the good memories are always there and I made some friends:)!! I wish someone could have mailed me the badly painted plague for our Bunk, just for the nostalgia:)!! However, I did get home sick at Overnight Camp and I was happy to arrive home appreciating family even more:)!!!
I liked the leathercraft classes, making belts and wallets and stitching them up. The Southern Baptist Convention bought and built these places with church funds. In addition to swimming, sports, and all the other activities mentioned here, we also got to listen to the older guys read the Bible to us and pray with us.
Camping with the Boy Scouts and the Cub Scouts in Herbertsville New Jersey is a memory of live with forever it was the best time ever I loved every minute of it. the mother of Cole ferry was part of the Cub Scout Troop she was absolutely the best ever.!!!! Always love going to her house for troop meetings on Lanes Mill Road Unforgettable Memories the best !!!!!
I went to summer camp when I was 10 it was 2 weeks and my first time being away from my family. Parents were allowed to visit after the 1st week. I remember a mud slide, camp fires swimming and hiking. It was one of those experiences you never forget. When I returned from camp my parents gave me a new Polaroid swinger camera as a gift.
I went to Girl Scout Camp Sherwood in Lapeer, Michigan with my troop and as a summer camper. I returned for Counselor-In-Training. Our CIT campsite was in the middle of an old pine forest and the smell of pine filled the air. Sometimes, I'd lay my sleeping bag directly on the forest floor - the pine needles provided a perfect mattress and the stars twinkled overhead. Lovely!
Yes lovely! I was a counselor and the city kids were so scared because it was too quiet and dark at camp.. no city lights, no sounds of cars, trucks, sirens.. a chipmunk would run through the cabin and oh how they screamed LOL
I was in 4-H and attended 4-H summer camp twice in the 70s at Oglebay Park in Wheeling, WV, only 5 miles from home :) They had bunk houses and a large dining hall. Once with the younger group and once when older. We did swimming, hiking, and game activities, team challenges, and evening camp fires. Fun times with lots of friends.
The best of times summers at Calvin Crest and winter retreats at Hume Lake both are christen camps here in mountains of central California..............
In the 80's I went to a overnight camp run by Morgan Memorial (the same people that run The Goodwill Stores in MA). We called it "Camp Moggie ('Morgie' w/ a Boston accent)" after the affectionate nickname for their thrift stores.
I guess you could consider a church bike/camping trip as a summer camp. I was an adult chaperone that trip and helped the teenage kids with their bikes. We did much on the Greenbriar Trail in southern WV, tent camping each night. One couple moved our stuff place to place and had dinners ready on our arrival!
Agreed, I had a great time for a week each summer at our Boy Scout camp near Yosemite. As for practical jokes, one time while we were off doing some activity, our scoutmaster found an old dried out bear turd. He put a little water on it to freshen it up and placed it next to one of the tents. We spent the rest of the day and evening finding tree branches that we could fashion into bear clubs in case it came back. He told us that it was a joke the next day. I also caught my first fish there. The state fish hatchery had just stocked the river with rainbow trout (I carried a bucket or two to the river). After the truck left, I found one of the trout along the bank that seemed stunned. I didn't have any gear, but I thought like a bear and managed to swat it up onto the bank with my paws. It made for a tastier dinner than the camp kitchen was providing.
Ahhhhhh.....Camp Williams in Roosevelt park. ......2 consecutive weeks a year in the summer, 5 days a week.Did that for 3 summers...I HATED IT...I could of been home sleeping, but nooo, I had to get the bus everyday at 7 in the morning then the same thing comming back at 4 in the afternoon, and that dreadful 90 minute bus ride each way. All we got was 2 pints of milk a day and we had to bring our own lunch. But I'll tell you what, it's great memories. I learned how to play poker there with my camp counselors at lunch time. ...lolololol
I was lucky enough to experience summer camp growing up, I'm actually very surprised how many people my age and younger have never gone to summer camp.
I went to summer camp but it was a sports camp. For 2 summers in 1973-74 I went to a hockey camp in Canada. Our coaches were current and former NHL players. We stayed in dorms of a small college. One of the kids I knew from there went on to play in the NHL for many years. The only activity I didn't like was boxing class, I almost got knocked out! It. was a great experience though!
Many women (the honest ones, at least) have confessed to me that their first sexual encounters were at their all-girls summer camps in the 60s & 70s. So there were those "memories" as well...
Camp Dudley is not located in Newburgh, New York - It is in Westport, New York - on Lake Champlain. I was there every summer from 1970 through 1976 - Camper # 10946.
i 1st worked at, rapid city ymca few years and cleaned camp day before june 9th flood. and taught canoe at camp bernie in new jersey.the summer of sky lab fall?
I was lucky enough to go to a boys camp in Florida every summer in my teen years... which was next door to a girls camp! And there were no rules against guys sleeping with girls! (in both senses of that term, LOL) Those were the happiest years of my life! I highly recommend condoms to my fellow human beings!
I went to Camp Shaver in the Jemez Mountains of New Mexico as part of an underprivileged kids program, during an overnight hike the counselors had to intervene in the tents because the older kids, 15,16, were sexually assaulting the younger kids 8,9, I crawled out and sat down by the fire, when asked why I wasn't asleep..... I never fit in, I wasn't good at sports, the crafts required purchasing the kits, I had no extra money, so the week was pretty much Not A Good Time. I don't like summer camp.
Idc how much ppl.say we are all equal and the same. Ppl in reality in this society are always separated by race, religion and color. If you didn't find a pedophile in these camps you were fortunate.

Hello mudda, hello fadda, here I am at, Camp Granada!...😆😆😆
Sorry, couldn't help myself!
Haha I haven't heard that song in years I'll have to RUclips it.
That smell of musty cabin in the woods in the summertime.
Back when there bugs. Remember taking a long, family road trip (for us it was 8hrs to see our extended family in Virginia) and you stopped to get gas and there were bugs all over the windshield? No bugs now. We’ve destroyed them. Yes .. the memories of nature
I have a lot of good memories of being a camper and camp counselor in the 70’s and 80’s, very grateful for those experiences. Thanks for the vid ✌️
...JUST FOUND THIS...AM BLOWN AWAY....eXCELLENT !
I already grew up in the country with 6 brothers & sisters, so no summer camp for us-- still would've loved to go! 🙂
Thank you so much for these well researched and high quality videos! Also the choice of music adds so much to the experience! We need more channels like this! This channel never fails to produce great content !

You were lucky.
I went to Camp Freshair in CT during the 70s. Great times and ghost stories. I met my wife at summer camp in 87. We weren’t campers but staff.
When you think of Summer Camp, try to recall the 1979 movie Meatballs. 🎣
They also had friday 13 and summer camp the movie base on summer camps
Never went to summer camp. But I sure camped a lot with my grandparents growing up in the 70's
You produce some of the most enjoyable videos. Thank you.
Many siblings must have been “created “ during the first - borns camp trips. Parents had to absolutely love it.
As a former cub and boy scout, I'm also reminded of Homer & Jethro's "Battle Of Kookamunga" and Allan Sherman's "Camp Grenada" song of the early 1960's.

I wish I lost 8 pounds.
Hello muddah, hello faddah...
Here I am at camp Grenada (was it actually grin nada?).. Birds are singing, kids are playing..
@@zuutlmna "....they're organizing a searching party."
I went to a couple of different camps in the early seventies, 1971, and 1974! I still cherish the memories to this day!!!!!!!!!
Almost died at camp Patmos swallowing Lake Erie water. Got so sick the entire week. Spent it in bed or bathroom. But no way was I going home. So many memories of church camps.
@Proud Pastrami Is that what they serve at Long John Silvers? lol, idk, never had either.
Your lucky you lived! That some nasty water.
Thank you for bringing back some good memories!

The main badge that I remember earning was the polar bear patch for camping out in absolutely freezing weather in Michigan.
I went to Girl Scout Camp back in the day I have some good & bad memories lol
Loved going to summer camps. Both church camp and scouting camp.
Hello muddah, hello faddah, Here I am at Camp Granada.
Granada means pomegranate in Spanish. Did they ever tell you that?
I went to summer camp when I was 10 it was 2 weeks and my first time being away from my family. Parents were allowed to visit after the 1st week. I remember a mud slide, camp fires swimming and hiking. It was one of those experiences you never forget. When I returned from camp my parents gave me a new Polaroid swinger camera as a gift.
I'm sure many parents looked forward to sending their kids to camp for a few weeks :-)
Yes, my Mom always said her vacation ended when school ended 🤣🤣!
Not too many parents today would give away their kids to sleep with total strangers for two weeks now. It’s so different
I so looked forward to summer camp way-up in the mountains with so many fun things to do and see.
I went to Girl Scout Camp Sherwood in Lapeer, Michigan with my troop and as a summer camper. I returned for Counselor-In-Training. I used to love going camping in the Summers.I sent my daughter and she loves it.Thank you for sharing great memories😊
I remember going to Summer Camps in the mid and late 70s. I wasn’t too home sick 😀
I was in 4-H and attended 4-H summer camp twice in the 70s at Oglebay Park in Wheeling, WV, only 5 miles from home :) They had bunk houses and a large dining hall. Went to Little League Baseball Camp in Pennsylvania back in late 70's.Worked there also in the summer of 1982.Thanks for the memories
The worse 2 weeks of my life were at a summer camp.
Too bad it was bad experience probably because who you were with.
Summer camp was four things...
Good food, swimming, horseback riding and GIRLS!!!
Boy Scout campouts were the best. The leaders were the best at doing practical jokes on the kids.

Hey, this reminds me of the song "Indian Lake" by the Cowsills.

YMCA summer camp, Mount Lassen, 1966. Good time, good place to be a little kid.
We went to 4H camp.
I went to 4-H camp, too.
Every 10 years old boy first question.. "How close is the girls camp? :)
Camp Dudley is not located in Newburgh, New York - It is in Westport, New York - on Lake Champlain. I was there every summer from 1970 through 1976 - Camper # 10946.
I never went to camp as a kid because my family was po. Now that I have kids I send my kids to camp. I think it’s a good experience for them.
YMCA Camp Al-Gon-Quin on Burt Lake (near Indian River) Michigan......where I received my first kiss!!!!!!!!! (lol...)
The rifle range was the best!!
i 1st worked at, rapid city ymca few years and cleaned camp day before june 9th flood. and taught canoe at camp bernie in new jersey.the summer of sky lab fall?
I went To Peacocok Camp in LakeVilla IL from 1991 until 1997
I went to our church camps three times but never a camp like the ones shown. :(
I was very shy and an inside person as a kid. I never went to camp and glad about it.

Camp Granada...Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah

I heard about these but never experienced it😞

Writing to home from camp? Try calling home on a phone that doesn't have a dial.
🤙
It's eScape not "eXcape". But fun.
Idc how much ppl.say we are all equal and the same. Ppl in reality in this society are always separated by race, religion and color. If you didn't find a pedophile in these camps you were fortunate.
The lack of Girl Scouts camping experience and how that change the idea for female camping was completely missed
