You should first go to Yunnan, then Chengdu, Chongqing, and finally Xi'an. Taking the high-speed train should not be tiring because the travel time is short, at most five hours.
11 hours in a train ? 7 hours driving a car killed me ! I only did it once, and never again. I'll never visit China, so I'm glad to see it through your eyes. I'll never leave my little island of Ireland, and have no desire to see the rest of the world. I'm just happy as I am ! Good luck on your travels.
Only on National Day will the city be decorated with national flags, lanterns will be used during the Spring Festival, and many real flowers will be placed on Labor Day.
Hello Matt & Julia, all your videos are very interesting, I love each and every one of them. Still, the prices are very low . Never mind the critic and politicians. Just be happy and enjoy your trip. We are enjoying your trip in actuality its and eye opener for us to see china thru your videos. Westerns media sure paint a different picture of this gorgeous country 😮. Take care, thanks 😊 ID. 🇺🇸
I have always been sceptical of travelling to China.🇨🇳 Taking into consideration your recent videos. You guys are definitely changing my mind. It looks very robust and exotic.
as a chinese, I usually give up high speed train journey more than 6- 8 hours but taking airplane, cause the long journey made me back pain and headache.
That guy you were chatting with at 3:54 in the escalator is clearly serving in the PLA, his hairstyle and backpack give it away. Probably on the way home on leave. From my encounters with active-duty Chinese soldiers, they’re confident, disciplined, cheerful, and helpful. No wonder the Chinese people admire their military so much.
The PLA stands for People's Liberation Army, they are there to defend the Chinese people. Soldiers of western military is basically hired mercenaries working for military corporations to used for imperial invasion of poor defenseless brown nations
The city looks amazing! I am loving this adventure and following you both. My guess on the haze/smog that it is pollution unfortunately. I cannot wait to see the next video. Be safe and have an awesome time!!
Kunming and Xi'an are 1,100 kilometers apart. I recommend taking a flight, which takes around two hours and costs about $30. Another option is to take a sleeper on a green train. Although it takes a full day and night, it allows for uninterrupted rest.
Busiest city: I'd go with Hanoi, Vietnam. Wild! .... on reflection, maybe Delhi, India was even more chaos and a very polluted city! Great question Matt and Julia.
The most important holiday in China is the New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, followed by the National Day. Try not to travel during these two festivals, as tickets are hard to buy and hotel reservations are hard to come by.
It's common to have foggy and overcast weather in northern part of China during Autumn/Winter time. In Xi'an it would sometimes be smoggy or even sandy, since it is not far from the second largest desert in Asia, same like Beijing.
Wow, traveling across China during Golden Week-brave move! The crowds can be a lot, but the train system here is amazing, even when it's packed. China’s high-speed trains are top-notch, and the ride from Kunming to Xi’an definitely shows you just how impressive the infrastructure is. Xi’an itself is a must-see, with its rich history and cool mix of ancient and modern vibes. Can’t wait to see how your trip goes-hope you have an awesome time and enjoy the ride!
xi'an is a city at northernside of qinling mountain, the biggest mountain seperates china into north and south. the wind from north is stopped here by the mountain, the dust from all over north are falling down here in the city, that makes xi'an city always dusty. but luckily it's natural dust, not industrial pollution.
6:30 “the reality of taking a train in your late 20’s” - ha ha ha! Don’t worry about it, having a down day afterwards is perfectly fine! Experiences are a spectrum of events, just fill the spectrum. BTW: Greetings from my partner and my late 60’s and we are still traveling intensely! Mind you, maybe a tad-slower these days!
I found Xi'an less tidy than what I'm used to see in China. Don't know why. I would recommend Famen temple outside Beihai if you have the time. It's a HUGE temple and very very impressive. Will absolutly go there a second time.
I think all foreigners who travel to China must travel to level 4-5 cities to be qualified to evaluate whether China is developed or backward! Your trip is so cheap.
I missed seeing the toilet tour on that 11 hour train!! What is going on at your channel, are you lowering the standards?? ha ha Looking forward to meeting the terracotta warriors through your eyes. Love to both from the Latin american Sasha!!
hi julia, you must stand out in the crowds with your long lovely blonde hair. great seeing places i will never get too. love the way you finish of the videos.
The price of trains will not increase during holidays, and it is most likely that you will not be able to buy tickets.Because there are too many people who need to buy tickets.
Recommend watch the performance show in Xi'An. Most of tourists attractions in China have performance show. Some show have being played 20 years and tkt sale US$1.5 billion comparable to Broadway Show in New York city.
I found an article that might explain why the crowds weren't as bad as expected. Search for the title: "China's National Day holiday subdued amid sluggish economy"
11 hrs on train is long 😅. gotta plan trips to keep it around 4 hrs or less travel time and it's better to see more of a region than to see more regions during a single trip to limit travel time/exhaustion lol

I guess earlier generations were made of tougher stuff surviving a 36 hour journey from Guangzhou to Beijing on the old slow trains for example. 😉 Xi'an is simply a treat for history lovers.
China is a big industrial country, with factory pollution, thermal power generation, and automobile exhaust all forming solid tiny particles suspended in the air. Summer is the monsoon season, with heavy rainfall and fast air flow. These particles are quickly blown away. The autumn monsoon decrease, rainfall decreases, and the air becomes turbid. Clouds are liquids, but this is very tiny and is haze.

Getting to and from the airport take time and cost money.
Even peak season hotel prices are crazy cheap!
Chinese hotels face fierce competition.
If you show a high price on app, nobody will order.
The smog weather is the normal weather for the season there. If you travel to Xi'An in Summer or Winter, the sky would be blue without cloud.
