    Such great writing. The subtle movements Betty White makes before delivering her lines sets up each funny line perfectly. Re-Watch if you didn’t notice.

      the timing is dated but the writing and characterization is flawless. You could do the entire script verbatim and it would fly. someone should sneak it into a modern show as a stunt and see if anybody notices. James Brooks is a legend cause of this show.

    Can anyone honestly say that someone could have played Sue Ann better than Betty White? I didn't think so. Her comedic timing was incredible.

    What a brilliant actor and comedian. Her timing and ability to make even the smallest line a cutting joke is fantastic. She will be missed.

      She did as much as anyone has ever done in television and the game shows, but part of me wishes we could have seen how far she would have gone in dramatic acting, she certainly was beautiful enough to be a leading lady on screen! Love you Betty, always!

    Betty White played the most lovable bitch on MTM, and she was the sweetest person ever on Golden Girls. So much talent. I certainly miss her.

      I like to think she closed her eyes, when she went to bed, and when she opened them she saw her beloved Allen. After 30 years they got to spend New Year's Eve together!

      @@tameriakeller I saw an interview with Vicky Lawrence(from Mama's Family), her and Betty were very close. She had it on good authority that Betty's last word was "Allen"! OMG, to be loved and love like that, I wish we all could experience it!

    damn.. lost Ed, Gavin, Cloris and Betty all in the same year. I was too young at the time, but always remember my dad watching this show and laughing so hard.

    I think why Sue Ann and Ted are my favorite characters is because both made two what should be totally unlikable characters not only funny but lovable. Betty and Ted were masterful actors as were the rest of the MTM cast

    Rest In Peace, Betty White. This is one of my favorite episodes and scenes, I was a teenager when it aired and I dropped to the floor choking with laughter when Sue Ann turned around with that big smile! Classic.

    There is not another person who could have played that role as Betty White did. Just like Cloris Leachman as Phyllis. Perfect casting all the way around. Wish they made shows this rich in character and story today.

      Agreed! The casting was pitch perfect. On par with All In The Family, The Jeffersons, Sanford and Son, Seinfeld, Frasier, Everybody Loves Raymond etc. Betty was born to play Sue Ann just as the rest of the MTM crew were born for their parts.

      Betty White joined the MTM show from the Season 4 premiere onward (the classic “The Lars Affair”) through the end of its 7 season run. Great comedic foil, perfect addition to the cast; her work on the show is well worth seeking out.

    Betty White was such a sweet, fun-loving lady. She’s now reunited with her close friends from the golden girls and is living in an immortal life with no pain, no suffering, and no sadness in God’s kingdom. She was truly an angel and she’ll always will be.

    Folks.. Let's not forget the creativity of the writers who made this possible. The writers understood the characters and wrote to their strengths. Unlike other shows (Dynasty), the inclusion of new characters did not spoil the balance of the show but added additional layers. Betty White was powerhouse and sits at the top of the mountain top.
    To this day, I cannot see what was so great about 'Friends'. The writing was average and the actors pale in comparison to the MTM Show cast.

      Actually I found in the last few years run of the Golden Girls I found Betty White as Rose Nylund to be quite annoying and not funny. Yes, Betty White was a lot better as Sue Ane Nivens than she was as Rose Nyland.

      Rose was annoying but that was the point. She was the foil for Bea Arthur's acerbic wit. Without her character, the show would have suffered.

    LOL. Sue Ann was the only one from WJM who always won those awards. (Ironically, her show would be cancelled and she had to be given another job at the station). Despite her sorrow over her romantic breakup, she nevertheless turned to face the audience with a beaming smile just in time! Ever the professional!

      @@mikesternmike Betty was 54, Mary 39 when this was filmed. But Ms. White was on television before Ms. Moore was even born. And she was a quite successful woman in television when she was young, having her own show and the first woman to produce another, both at age 30.
