CJ Pony Parts Automatic is way better than a Manual because they sell a lot more Automatics than Manuals that doesn’t mean anybody is lazy it means Automatic Transmission is way faster from 0-60 and is way more fuel efficient than the Manual counterpart because you don’t have to shift gears it shifts gears Automatically
I love the part where you said and it turns just like an automatic 😂😂😂
Hands down man, you're a good teacher. You gave clear directions, kept things simple, and kept on encouraging her.
Bill you are a very good and patient teacher better than my uncle and dad were when I first learned on a manual.
Silverdeamon92 yeah he is ! That car is easy to learn on I learned on a 1981 chevette that had manual brakes steering and didn’t idle
did they yell at you to?
This is why I have huge respect for any kind of teacher.
Left foot is clutch and brake?! No, left foot is only clutch
Lulul Hadøøø I made a mistake after she stabbed the brakes with her left foot and said the wrong thing. It happens
I caught this too. Since this is an instructional video, of sorts, they could have corrected it on screen.
Do not use your left foot for brake. That’s a horrible advice, your feet sensitivity will make you hammer the freaking brake
I heard that too. Half of the problem when learning to drive a manual is the communication between teacher and pupil. At least she didn't listen to that part thought.
@Jermaine Rodney thats a new one
That was great! Save the manuals!!!
I keep mime in da glove box always.
LoL
Great Job! I have taught many (MANY) young and older drivers to drive a manual. Long Live The Stick Shift!!!!
Finally someone that teaches properly! I would suggest learning a handbrake start for those hills, good skill to have. It saved me several times from crashing into the car behind which was literally inches from me. Just add about 2000rpm, find the biting point, hold both feet still and release the hand brake and the car will start moving no sliding back at all. This is always taught as a basic skill in Europe, in fact in the UK this is taught even on flat ground on the first lesson when moving off. Students develop better and faster methods once they get better.
He said ... it turns just like an automatic lmao !!! That was classic ...
LOOOOL
She'll be back at her desk in no time!
Hahaha
Phenom354 lmao
Top instructing Bill.
Wish you had taught me! You're a great teacher. I was selling cars and my boss threw keys at me and said "you need to learn, good luck and don't wreck it."
This is one of those videos I didn't ask for but needed......THANK YOU
Nice job Bill! You're a great teacher. I'll use your method if I ever convince my wife to relearn a clutch.
Finally a good teacher my ass learned through RUclips 1 year ago at 18 im suprised i didnt destroy my clutch
Bill is really nice, I was left at the bottom of the hill with a motorcycle and told if you don't wanna spend the night here, learn gears and climb up to the top. At that point I theoretically knew how to pop the clutch, but would often stall the bike...so that was the lesson given to me by my brother. Bill is way nicer.
1st: never turn off PE / 2nd I always teach people to wiggle the shifter when parking before letting off the clutch to ensure you'r in neutral. It's a great early habit to learn so you never accidentally release the clutch while in gear when parking or stopped at a light.
Well, her seat is not adjusted properly. See how her knee gets straight when she presses the clutch
With the engine off, let the student practice shifting gears without looking away from the front glass/road! ...several times she looked down at the stick when she needed to shift, my heart started beating faster. So, practice shifting gears looking forward or with your eyes closed so u never need to look down again 😁
Brought back memories lol. Practice makes perfect.
1:17 "Your left foot is clutch and brake, your right foot is gonna be gas."
So... we're heel-toe'ing the clutch, then? Now _that's_ an advanced technique! 😅🤣
This man has the patience of a saint
Love the graphics on the Mustang! I learned to drive a manual, going forward and backwards in the driveway. Once I had the clutch down, I already knew how to shift watching my parents drive. I had a friend from high school looking at a car to buy, but it was a manual. My Dad looked at me, and told me to take his car and teach her how to drive a manual.
This was great! I just purchased a 2017 mustang eco boost 6speed manuel and had NO clue how to drive it, my dad took me out and I felt so discouraged because I still couldn’t get it past 1st gear! This vid got me going almost right away! Cleared out so many questions I couldn’t figure out how to ask! Thank you so much! Good luck to anyone currently trying to learn! You got it! Easier than you think! :)
Now she’s gotta drive a stick regularly to retain what she learned. I taught a friend of mine with my focus st at a time when she didn’t have a car. She’s forgotten everything.
I refuse to drive anything but a manual
@@shoponline831 why? It is needlessly difficult
@@paulnadratowski3942 not at all. I really enjoy being in full control of my vehicle. It comes naturally
@@paulnadratowski3942 I bet you sit down to pee.
Thanks Bill and CJ. I just swapped out my automatic for a 5 speed in my 69 mustang. Now I’m learning how to drive manual. I relied heavily on this video and was able go up and down the gears with no issues. Just need to work on uphill starts without a hand brake. This video was a big help!
How's it going brother?
Excellent instruction. Wish my first teacher in a manual (my father) was this patient and thorough. I learned pretty much on my own after that. Kudos Bill!
Really love the patience and how you make sure she understood what she was doing.
Your left foot is clutch AND brake, your right foot is gas.... LMAO! What is this, rally school?! Nice one dude! I almost choke on my beer when i heard it, like, she never drove stick before and that's the first thing you tell her? Lmao, good one! A cold beer to you sir! For making us laugh and giggle a bit. Kudos, +1 on the video.
I had to learn on my self on 65 mustang with a sloppy transmission, wasnt the easiest thing to do but i dont regret learning
you're a good teacher, you got the patience.
She’s good!! Really fast learner with a great teacher.
Manual shifting in a Mustang GT or higher is work of beauty and complete driver experienced satisfaction. Many haters out there actually cannot drive a manual anyway if the truth be told. In a muscle car as in the newer Mustang's, speed is very important, however over the life of your Mustang ownership, the experience of driving a manual is a highly rewarding experience.
Dude you're an awesome teacher! By far the most informative and easy to understand video on driving a manual.
I taught my girlfriend how to drive stick, she didn’t pretty good to someone who never ever touched a manual car before! Great job Bill
I learned on an 87 toyota 2wd pickup from my dad. No power steering, no power windows, no power anything. 5 speed manual with 4 forward and reverse.
I really liked driving that old thing over the other option which was a gold, 1986 two door Dodge 600 with a soft top. Neither were nice looking vehicles but the truck did give me a good feeling when I drove it. Something about driving that manual transmission was like a drug.
When we were in high school I taught my girlfriend how to drive stick with that truck! Hehe, good times :)
“A few inches later” I giggled
ya nasty lol
Save the manuals, YES!!! I had to special order my 2020 Mustang because nobody drives manuals anymore, go figure. But that worked out fine, got the color I wanted, wheels I wanted, and everything else i wanted... then a 6 week wait. But now I have a 6 speed manual, and it was definitely worth the wait. Props to the Lady for not giving up, she done very well, and props to the dude for not getting impatient and being a good teacher. I watched this video because I'm looking for a good way to teach my mum how to drive stick and she is very uncoordinated, think I will try this approach
Buy mum an automatic
Great video and Bill is a hell of a teacher. Wish I would've had him beside me when I was 16 :)
Good Job Bill. You're a pretty good teacher with the manual car. Well done
That was awesome that she learned
This is the nicest first lesson ever… my tip is that when I realized the car won’t stall if your rolling it helped. If you let it idle in first gear your car will go about 10 mph on flat ground without stalling out. Second gear is a little faster and so on. When you know that point that’s all you need to get to in first gear. My new mustang I don’t even have to give it gas I can just slowly let the clutch out. Older Hondas I’d rev to 900- 1000 and slowly let the clutch out. After your foot is fully off the clutch you can give it more gas
wait until it snows and you have an empty parking lot... fun and easy way to learn and hard as hell to stall it. Find an old fox body with a heavy as hell cheap clutch cable makes it that much more fun to learn on.
No Thanks haha
This was actually helpful watching someone make the same mistakes i knew i was going to make. Nice vid
Good teacher. Everyone always just says ‘look at my hands...do this’ engagement point!
My girl learned on a 350hp Mustang also. So much power is almost cheating, once she had the basics in her head its easy, the car pulls so much! Almost no slipping required! I was jealous.
I love bill he’s helped me with so many install videos on my own Mustang great job buddy
Excellent job, Bill. Damn good teacher. 👍🏼
She did good and asked good questions. I've taught many how to drive a manual, mostly I start them off in grass to be easier on the car and to allow some forgiveness to the driver, if they pop the clutch or get to bucking it;s easier on all of us. I also teach them how to use the handbrake to get going on hills.
She did great! Very good instruction.
Great instructional video she did a good job at driving a manual
I had to learn in a Diesel manual (The Netherlands) i was so used to it untill i passed my test and i began to drive in a old gasoline manual. Boy, i had to learn how to drive all over again as the car didn't had a point that the car should've started to roll. But after a days practice, i learned how to master it. Bought my own car (audi coupe 1987) and this one at least has a engagement point.
My Father taught me to drive a manual when I was 16. Thought he would take me out to abandoned location, nope. Made me start from the driveway. Needless to say, after a few stop signs & traffic lights with traffic, I mastered that bitch pretty quickly. Been driving manuals for 35+yrs now & will always have a few in my garage.
This is exactly how I teach how to drive a manual. Good job.
Man, really enjoyed that video, good job CJ 👍🔥
Its nice to see people wanting to learn to drive manual. I miss having a car that has a stick.
That mustang looks awesome!!!
#savethemanuals
Since I live in Quebec, driving lessons are mandatory in order to get a drivers license and ever since I was a kid I always wanted to learn on a manual car but the driving school I went to didnt have any stick shift cars lol, luckily I have a coworker who is going to teach me soon can't wait
She did great! Cj, u are a good teacher.
I really like that EcoBoost Mustang performance pack
Never learned how to drive stick but Im sure my experiences riding a moped with a clutch should help. Also I should be no stranger to fancy footwork since Im a pilot.
I have driven an automanual before, but since its all computerized I feel like I dont have much control over it.
I've taught a handful of people how to drive a manual. When starting out in first gear (especially on a hill) push the accelerator the same amount as you are letting out the clutch and you won't stall out.
A man of great patience! lol!
You guys have gotten WAAAAYYYY too much money from me for my 65' notchback...but I had to stop by and upvote this just for the subject matter.
I taught one of my neighbors to drive a manual a few years ago. She learned pretty quick. Patience is mandatory lol. My dad threw me the keys and said figure it out. He practiced with me once and a security guard kicked us out of the parking lot of local high school. 1985 dodge colt 4 on the floor. Hills do suck at first!
Funny thing about this video was that Bill was the only one with the seatbelt. Wise man... :) BTW, really nice video!
One thing to explain is that the default path on the stick is spring loaded to the 3rd and 4th gate. Left pressure to overcome the spring gets the 1st and 2nd gate and right pressure the 5th and 6th. You can feel the spring-effect and it really helps. Forward and back effect between 3-4 and 4-3 can be with one or two fingers with almost no effort.
I just sold my toyota 2013 camry for a 2018 jeep wrangler jl. Stick is so hard since I've never had one and I feel like I sold my life along with my automatic camry. The clutch is feathery and same with the gas. I feel like the biting point is a thick as a dime's width! Wish you were in cleveland ohio cause I just got this thing yesterday and I just had to drive a family members car to work since I still dont know wtf I'm doing. Your video gives me hope that I can learn it with the right controlled environment and teacher. Thanks bud.
You are an excellent instructor !
She did so good
That's sexual harassment nowadays
tiger cat unfortunately you're right
Good job Bill!! It helps that she's so cute🥰. You go girl!!!
I like teaching people how to drive stick. I think it really helps to understand what RPM is, and what gears are and what gears are for. Almost all girls do not understand these things, and cars just magically go.
You’re a phenomenal trainer!!!
Nice training Bill 👌
u r absolutely a good teacher
your a good teacher Bill
First thing I teach them is how to stop, clutch in and on the brake. I think we can all agree that's a good safety rule.
It's good he teaches initially to not even bother with the gas, or to move the clutch and gas oppositely at the same time, it's just too complicated. I say "if you let the clutch out slowly enough it will start moving without any problem".
My advice for beginners is "don't be in a hurry to get that clutch fully engaged when the light turns green" that's when everyone stalls it. Just slow and steady and after 50 or so starts they can start using the gas while engaging the clutch from a stop.
I taught my wife on a down hill slope so engagement was easier both on her and on the car. Then when they are used to it an uphill could be handled.
Sent this to my daughter to give her some pointers for her GT350. She is doing pretty good- a lot better than I think folks thought she would...BTW, this woman is pretty attractive & a good sport
Great job teaching
Good job young lady!!
I think Bill is an excellent clutch instructor and his student is a real cutie pie!!
Ron , you’re not wrong.
I'll never go automatic when it comes to performance cars, jmo. Bill you are a patient man :)
Scotty N So you buy a performance car with less performance? Because you can’t outshift a computer. Even Ford knows it, hence why the Mustangs are all quicker with the autos and why the GT500 won’t even get a manual.
@@MikeL-FL how often do you drive your car to the absolute limit where those numbers are relevant? For the normal person, most time is spent cruising where having the complete control of a manual transmission is way more fun.
Getting a performance car with an automatic gearbox is just wasting it. It's literally no different to driving a go kart. You just put your foot on the floor when you want to go fast and that's it. Not very engaging at all.
@@Aaron70235 yeah i dont get people like that they say the autos are faster so noone should be able to get a manual its like yes we all agree new autos are better for performance at the track but some of us want to drive the car not just go fast
she is brave to be willing to put this on the internet. She didn't do too bad
Hills are tough in a standard transmission. Try the hills of San Francisco...
Watching this makes me want to drive my manual transmission car during this pandemic..
Im about to get a mustang get soon and I want it in a manual:)
if you get the auto I'll ask you if your girl ever lets you drive it.......
@@Sahadi420 lmaooo good thing im single
Sahadi420 😂
Sahadi420 💯🤣
Dont get a v6
She was easy to be patient with.
Hi I just watched you video so is she a expert at it now
Maybe not an expert yet but she can jump in and drive!
I got approved on a new ZO6 Vette but they couldn't find me a standard so I bought a 2019 Mustang GT PP2, Love It. I do pity the driver instructors though #jobidneverwant
A Cool Transmission to Drive With
If I watch this video a few more times maybe I don’t even have to spend money on manual driving lessons lol
Even if I’m taking lessons I’m hiring Bill haha
Really nicely done
You can do it!
CJ Pony Parts you’re awesome Bill 😎
That's an interesting position for the reverse gear, I've never seen it there. Usually it sits "after" the highest gear.
All the newer Fords and Europeans have reverse there.
Planning on building my own car with a manual transmission because I like manual transmissions and it's a shame that not many people drive them anymore.
3:38 (and elsewhere) - get your hand off the stick unless you're shifting :)
do you have any videos on power shifting?
I learned stick because of the cops..it was a Honda civic too..my friend got away with a sobriety test but they made me drive it home lol...only stalled twice and been through 4 of my own standards since then
Be in neutral on start up is good advice...or else you lurch forward, like when I ran over Bill in 2003 :)
So when it comes to cars I cant drive stick I always stall out and cant get into 2nd lol no one ever taught me but I taught myself how to ride a motorcycle and had no problems with shifting gears, would love to learn with cars lol
