  • @joeblow5709
    @joeblow5709 6 лет назад

    I am making this with my son, but can't leave it in a hot car in the UK in October. So we used two layers of foam, hot glued at their center, then we used EVO-STIK (like contact cement) to glue both circles together. We cut a sheet of clear plastic an inch or so larger than the shield and put Duct tape across the top extending past the plastic about six inches. We then taped it to an over-inflated exercise ball and added more strips of duct tape across the top. We filled in the gaps between these tape strips with shorter pieces of tape until all 360 degrees of the shield edge were taped down. When the glue dries, the shield should hold it's shape just like laminated wood beams do. We will have to trim the edge to even up the circles since the back one ends up about 1/4" bigger than the front layer due to the curvature.

    • @joeblow5709
      @joeblow5709 6 лет назад

      Also, to cut the circles and to etch the rings, We used a plastic ruler compass. I heated a small nail and stuck it through the ruler at the 0" mark. I then heated an Exacto knife blade and pushed it through the ruler at 4", 6" 8" and 10". For the inner rings, the knife blade hangs about 1-2 mm below the ruler, which is now a very sturdy compass knife vs. Odin's posterboard compass. I then drove the nail through the ruler, the foam and into a wooden workbench. I didn't even need to draw the circles, we just etched them. At the 10" mark, I used a longer blade and heated it then pushed it through the ruler until it hit the workbench. This cuts a perfect circle. We then used a star template to etch an 8" five-point start inside the inner etched circle. We are doing everything else pretty much the way Odin does it.

    I can attest that you can use the hand single hole puncher for craft foam rivets. Those plastic folders work well when you need more subtle rivets.

    Also, maybe use your posterboard compass technique with some a scotch brite pad and circle around the shield. It will remove some of the paint and give you a spun metal shield look.

    Hey Odin I have a fun little tip for you
    Next time you’re short on rivets just cut some roofing nails down to size poke them through the holes and carefully hammer the cut ends down
    If you ever make an Ash Williams robot hand out of styrene plastic or something (that’s the best example I could think of)

    Hey Odin, here's an idea for you. Instead of using nail heads for rivets, use googly eyes. It's a lot cheaper to do, it's a lot faster to do, and it looks better once you paint them. They will make a little bit of noise because they have paper inside of it but it's a small price to pay for good design.
