There have been a lot of problems with WoW's writing, but Anduin is such a massively interesting character, and I love how consistent the writing for him has been, in the books, we see a metaphor that exactly matches his video, Anduin lists off his troubles while escaping from his responsibilities for a moment, rubbing bootshine into his hair to change the golden color, and going to Lion's Pride Inn to get away from it all, and every time he thinks of his failures, or his fears, another coin drops into a bag, the weight of it getting heavier and heavier, as he gets more and more tired. The Jailors control was really a breaking point, and I hope that they take their time with exploring Anduin's feelings, I'd personally like him to explore more into the shadow and discover for himself If Its a corruptive influence, something to be discarded, or something to be used properly and justly, a metaphor for his own new, darker feelings.

I used to hate Anduin as a character, mainly because I've seen him as a weak boy trying to fill his Father's shoes. But this illustration changed my perceptions. He is just.... Tired of it all.
I think he's fine as a character. The biggest problem with his background is he's supposed to be more like his mother than his father. But his mother was dead before Vanilla and killed by the Defias Brotherhood. So she never really got a proper lore in game for people to relate with, so Anduin got kind of a half-baked character growth in my opinion.
Yeah and honestly... Like would any of us be any better in his position? Bro's mom died when he was a baby. Dad was super distant for the first half of his childhood and had anger issues due to onyxia's bullshit. Then when you and your dad are actually repairing your relationship, dad gets killed. And suddenly your responsible for leading one of two largest governments in the entire world, then you have to fight a war with demons. Then you gotta fight a bloody war against the horde. During this, a genocide happens against the night elves. Which causes tyrande to kind of be understandably distraught and angry, but that causes divisions in the alliance that anduin has to try to repair on top of it all. Then when he finally thinks the world will finally be at peace. He gets kidnapped and brainwashed by Warcraft Satan. Yeah.... Can any of us say that we'd react any better than anduin has to all of that?

You also caught onto what I've been saying about Anduin (my favorite character, along with Wrathion) all along, he's had guano for a life and it's no wonder he went walking to figure out what he believed. The War Within cinematic showed a young man, tired and just lost, with PTSD from what happened. hmmm Im not sure I agree. While yes I can definitly see this being true to an extend, I think Anduin not going back is more so because feels violated. His body was used, and probably made to feel things he did not want to feel and made to do things he did not want to do. Things like these wear down on oneself really quick. After something like this happens anyone would have to process their emotions and their agency. Because in cases like these people feel like they lost their agency they often do something that is uncharacteristic of them, anything to not just go back into normal routines. Audin suffered a lot in shadowlands, and I think its important to recognize that even if there is no deeper reason, he deserves to take time to process what happened to him.
Anduin is kinda like Jesse in Breaking Bad. He somehow keeps getting the short end of the stick and going through so much. That would definitely break a guy, even a strong light warrior like him.
I never thought of Anduin as a king, but more as someone forced to take the role of it. I think the next step towards his healing mental health may be him completely stepping down from the throne once and for all...but of course that future comic would have to be redconed somehow if that's the case.

Years later, Blizzard is now focusing on stories designed to tell more interpersonal stories and time spent on people's feelings. I feel like there are a few missed opportunities (or ones yet to occur), like the consequences of Anduin Wrynn evading his birthright and the responsibility that comes with being a monarch. The throne of both the Kingdom of Stormwind and the Alliance is currently in the hands of a steward. Said steward is a religious fanatic who has done nothing but fight a light versus dark / Black & White conflict for millenia alongside him taking orders from within the Army of The Light. Also before the AoTL, his only direct exposure to the Horde before is reapearance in Legion was him fighting the Horde in WC1&2, a horde of demon worshiping barbarians. However, Blizzard hasn't done anything new with Turalion yet.
Plot Twist: the Jailer wasnt Zaaval, it was the Primus and Anduin still feels the control of the Jailer during War Within, he isnt free yet, but everyone believes he is...and in The Last Titan the Primus will pull his Ace out of his sleeve and make a power move

I don't think it's fair to say "Wrathion kind of killed his dad", the amount of events that had to follow as a consequence of his actions for that to even happen.. it just doesn't seem fair OR correct to put that on his shoulders as if he pulled the trigger. Wrathion definitely should be grilled for the events of the Legion in general, but the death of Varian? Idk... I hope we see Wrathion and Anduin reconnect in Worldsoul. You seem to neglect that both the Horde and Alliance did mount a defense against the Legion and lost. since the Alliance's SI:7 failed to warn them. resulting in a trap being sprung that the Alliance then Blamed upon the Horde. Next the Arathi Meeting, didn't simply go to well. Official members of the Forsaken Government was defecting, encouraged by Calia Menethil a Usurper politically to Sylvanas' rule. In most cases housing or bringing such a threat to a peace meeting without warning, would be taken as a declaration of War. Sylvanas also kept her promise that Day and Harmed no members of the Alliance. Including Anduin himself that Taunted her to take the Shot. Upon which Anduin began to swarm Orgrimmar with SI:7 agents, which again is a declaration of War, which did Bite him in the butt at the end. Anduin was already ceasing being a Diplomat way before BFA even started is my point. Also you kinda skipped out the part where Anduin imprisoned Diplomats from Zandalar heading to the Horde. Followed by Anduin planning an all out assault upon the Zandalari, which is why he could not spare troops for the Night elves. the only thing that really made Anduin change proper is his time being controlled by the Boogieman. Suddenly understanding what the Undead went through.

It is greatly written how isnit.possible that the direction and story telling in the game is so bad? How can a youtube video make complete sense of story that didnt and make you like hated characters. Blizzard wake up call
I'll have to see what they're going to do with him first in TWW before I change my mind on viewing him as the worst writer character in this franchise. It's all talk now, but there's nothing there. Also worrying because they're still letting CG write his narratives, so that's already a giant red flag in the air.
My problem with Anduin's character, is that his struggles are no longer believable for me. A lot of events leading up to his current situation were so very flawed from a writing standpoint that I just can't empathyse with him, its just so stupid. Like with the Sylvanas example too, she literally betrayed her own people whom she swore to protect, but despite that a lot of forsaken keep supporting her, and the war can continue? BfA was poorly written as a whole, especially Sylvanas' part, which is a problem because this is what lays the foundation for the current Anduin. There is also the fact that eventually, all of these problems get solved in the end. And then there is Shadowlands, which was objectively worse in every way than the already not-so-liked BfA. Like, the way the mawsworn can yoink Anduin away without any resistance is just hilarious. But my biggest problem for his breakdown after SL, is that Anduin isn't actually a weak person, and never was. He isn't as determined as Varian on the surface, but he is still a good leader, and he should be mature enough by now to deal with these problems. Instead he gets completely broken by them as of TWW, but these reasons aren't nearly strong enough for this character, if we consider his background. He has come across many losses prior to all of this too, yet this is what breaks him? And of course there is the problem I mentioned above, where the events leading up to this plotpoint were greatly flawed, and therefore ruin the story's integrity
People tend to overstate how many NEs died at Teldrassil. Most of it had already been evacuated already, and most NEs never lived in Teldrassil to begin with. NEs hold more territory than any other race. This is not like with High Elves, where wiping out Silvermoon would kill almost all of them when Arthas attacked.
its always 1 step forward and 2 steps back with anduin. I thought he was gonna go out of his way and do stuff when he took up shalamayne but he still always finds some reason to be all melancholic for some longing about how things could be better instead of accepting the situation for what it is. Loser puts the weight of the world on his shoulders ever single chance he gets.And because he is here for the long haul the player character is forcred to deal with his nonsense when he's just cramping our style.And because the story moves at a snails pace thats the impression he leaves us with for the next 6-7 months especially since his story is nothing to write home about especially when you've seen his trope done better in other media Not to mention everything he did in shadowland was of no consequence he just killed dead people who were already dead.

BfA was poorly written as a whole, especially Sylvanas' part, which is a problem because this is what lays the foundation for the current Anduin. There is also the fact that eventually, all of these problems get solved in the end. And then there is Shadowlands, which was objectively worse in every way than the already not-so-liked BfA. Like, the way the mawsworn can yoink Anduin away without any resistance is just hilarious.
But my biggest problem for his breakdown after SL, is that Anduin isn't actually a weak person, and never was. He isn't as determined as Varian on the surface, but he is still a good leader, and he should be mature enough by now to deal with these problems. Instead he gets completely broken by them as of TWW, but these reasons aren't nearly strong enough for this character, if we consider his background. He has come across many losses prior to all of this too, yet this is what breaks him?
And of course there is the problem I mentioned above, where the events leading up to this plotpoint were greatly flawed, and therefore ruin the story's integrity

People tend to overstate how many NEs died at Teldrassil. Most of it had already been evacuated already, and most NEs never lived in Teldrassil to begin with. NEs hold more territory than any other race. This is not like with High Elves, where wiping out Silvermoon would kill almost all of them when Arthas attacked.
its always 1 step forward and 2 steps back with anduin. I thought he was gonna go out of his way and do stuff when he took up shalamayne but he still always finds some reason to be all melancholic for some longing about how things could be better instead of accepting the situation for what it is. Loser puts the weight of the world on his shoulders ever single chance he gets.And because he is here for the long haul the player character is forcred to deal with his nonsense when he's just cramping our style.And because the story moves at a snails pace thats the impression he leaves us with for the next 6-7 months especially since his story is nothing to write home about especially when you've seen his trope done better in other media Not to mention everything he did in shadowland was of no consequence he just killed dead people who were already dead.
