- This video will show you the differences between the Royal & Langnickel Calligraphy pen sets, how to properly load the ink cartridges, and what the piston filler is for. Tips on using the pens are also offered.

I’m going to be honest it would have been nice to have some sort of instructional documentation. I just happened to see the smaller set at Walmart and thought it might be something to try with line art. I got a bunch of pieces and had no idea how to get it to function. Also what inks you can refill with is super vague. Aren’t most inks permanent. It’s kind of the point of ink. Still looking forward to trying these but the initial experience is not so impressive.

I agree! Some form of instructions would have been nice on the packaging. I'm new at this and had no idea how assemble without going to RUclips and I happen to find this video.
I unfortunately can’t get the ink to flow after a week of trying :/ the only time it worked was after me shaking it for an hour and finally calling my mom in for help even then it only worked for around 2 minutes then it tried up

Don’t give up, fellow newbies. Push that cartridge very forcefully, if you’re wimpy like me, give it all you got. It’ll snap in.

Literally stabbed myself in the hand giving it all I got. This thing is crap.

Try to attach the cap to the nib as you load the ink cartridge. It will give you leverage to push down on. When you shake the pen if you hear a rattling then you did it right. I just did this.

Yes, thank you for this video. I had tried to install the cartridges a long time ago, but was never able to get the ink to flow. I may have injured the nib in my efforts. It is finally flowing but barely visible. Very helpful to have this video.

thanks for the warning about putting cap on before tapping it to protect the nib, other tutorials didn't mention that!

Might help someone but what I did was put the ink thing in as much as I could but it wasn’t in enough so I put the cap on and pressed the cap down sence the ink would be pressured into the floor to push up and it would work at least for me. Hope I explained that ok

I've been a professional calligrapher for 35 years. The only fountain pens I would consider using are Pilot Parallel pens, and I seldom use those. I stick with my tried and true Speedball dip pens. Fountain pens limit you in so many ways; won't go into all of that here. I'm sure this is a nice pen set for what it is, and maybe okay for beginners, but once you advance a bit leave the fountain pens behind. Again, the only fountain pens that I know professionals are using are Pilot Parallels.

I got the cartridge in. But I've shake it. I've slammed it on my kitchen table (with the pen cap on) and I have absolutely nothing coming out of the nib! Help!

Most art supply stores sell standard ink refills. You can also use the piston filler provided with the set.
What kind of ink works with for the refill ink cartridge
Most art supply stores sell water based inks. Avoid India or permanent inks because they can clog the nib.
Mine popped in just fine but the ink will not come down. I think my set is defective. 😑 I have been shaking, pulling it off and popping it in again and shaking and taping for two days now and nothing is working.
If i remove the ink tube and replace it, will it leak.
I place a small piece of tape over the end just to be safe.

i had the same issue but you can lightly put the cartridge inside and hit it really really hard on a table or something and it will pop!
I broke basically every part of these pens and never got them writing properly for more than a few minutes at most. Ugh
Pro tip: even if you think you got the click but the ink still wont come out try seeing if you ACTUALLY clicked it in. I jus spent 20 mins trying to figure out why it wasn’t working but I jus didn’t press hard enough HAHA
Got it now though, thanks for the vid dude it really helps. I was using the pen like it was a normal pencil beforehand 💀

@@ava_.staticc sometimes the pen nib has certain way it has to go in, so even if you push hard it wont go in. Try spinning it around a few times and shoving it
Thank you so much for your comment about pushing it on further. I didn't have the strength to do so. I just held the the pen towards the nib and pressed the cartridge into it, using the table to press against. I felt and heard a BIG click and after shaking it a bit, it started working.
this still isnt making mine work and iv been shaking it…u fail to give full detail i feel like i need to shake this thing for days for it to work im about to chuck it and use bic this sucks.
They simply do not work, with or without instruction. The ink cartridge pops in, clicks, but does not write at all.
I followed you tutorial and my pen tip got stuck in my lid from shaking it. $10 down the drain. Thanks mate.
Yeah the quality is pretty rubbish. I’m not surprised it’s quite cheap.
Woulda preferred 1 nib, 1 refill no tin and a pen that actually works. Taking it back tomorrow I think.

Yeah so why market these as calligraphy pens if they dont split... At that point its just a fine tipped fountain pen this is false advertising 😡
